Media and fans may over react again. Joe said he was open to everything. Being in the spotlight he will have to learn that if he doesn't give politician type answers some things will get carried away.

I don't know anyone who expected the Giants to pick up his 5th-year option. You know these two idiots?

I just think no matter what he says people will read in to it much more than he intends. I take it as it comes, GM speak is on high during combine week... I just do not think he said anything noteworthy. He answered that he was open to anything. Some people will say oh he is looking to trade Bark but I did not see that at all. Later praised Bark, and KT and also said DJ is our starter.

Your comment is exactly the point I’m trying to make. A 1st rd QB choice is a defining moment for Schoen. He won’t make it based on the options in front of him at the exact moment in time he decides he will need to move on from Jones. T Taylor made the pro bowl the year before they chose Allen. Picking Allen was based on Allen, not Taylor. I suspect it’ll be the same with Jones. It’ll be based on how impressed with a long term replacement vs how unimpressed they are with Jones. Seems like a few fans will already turn on Schoen if they don't have a new day one starter for us at QB this year. only the fans who are unimpressed with Jones...

This is why you draft Carson Strong. Elite Red Zone passer. Throws an unguardable corner fade. Huge upgrade inside the Red Zone over Daniel Jones (who SUCKS inside the RZ). Draft Carson Strong - If Daniel Jones struggles early in 2022, have Strong take over by 2022 midseason. Since Jones won't be here in 2023 anyways, Strong will be 2023 starting QB at the very latest. Either way, if the Giants draft a QB in the 2022 Draft, that QB will take over either in 2022 or 2023. Perhaps we should draft Strong at pick 5 and then pick him again with pick 7 just to be sure.

I'm getting a bit nervous, given his combine performance and all. I think we should put a WOW package together to trade up with Jacksonville, just to be sure we don't miss out on the QB of a generation.

Hell, he probably didn't even need to call him or anything to let him know. Glennon probably already had his stuff out of the facility after the last game.

Before you get too comfortable; Tim McDonnell and Steven Price are still running Pro-Personnel for the Giants as they were last year. However last year's co-director Mark Konz is gone so you can blame Glennon on him if it makes you feel better.
But in all seriousness having your grandson as your Director of Pro Personnel is problematic and serves to undermine the GM and HC.

Some don't see this as a problem but I think it's a big issue. This tells others that were still a mom and pop organization. If John Mara's plan is to have his nephew take over after his death then fine but put him somewhere else that doesn't hurt the team.

"Tim is probably the most respected guy we have in this building. Coaches, front office staff and the general manager go to him and ask his advice on players because he is a good evaluator.
The only two voices at the end of the day that matter are the head coach and the general manager. They make the final determination.

He is the Grandson of Wellington Mara ,not John's. I don't understand how this under cuts the authority of the two in charge. nypost.com/2013/03/27/wellington-maras-grandson-hired-by-giants-as-scout/When Tim McDonnell as a teenager was a ball boy for the Giants during training camps at the University at Albany there was always a sense that he would one day be an employee of the team on a full-time basis. Not only is he a grandson of team patriarch Wellington Mara but he also seemed to understand the workings of the organization, even at a young age. Well, McDonnell is joining the family business. He’s been hired as scout in the Giants pro personnel department after working the past eight years with the Notre Dame football program. After graduating from Holy Cross (where he played receiver), he was hired by former Irish coach Charlie Weis in 2005 as the quality control coach. He later became Notre Dame’s personnel director and remained in that position when Brian Kelly took over as head coach in 2010. McDonnell was heavily involved in the school’s recruiting operations. McDonnell is a nephew – and also bears a resemblance to – Giants co-owner John Mara and there is certainly a feeling that McDonnell could work his way up through the ranks and, possibly, one day fill the shoes of his uncle. McDonnell was very close to Wellington Mara, who passed away at 2005. As a pro personnel scout, McDonnell will work under director of pro personnel Ken Sternfeld and evaluate talent on NFL teams.

I remember this response by John and that he was uncomfortable (or annoyed) at having to address this but the kid is the Director of Pro Personnel and that tells me he's in charge of scouting all the players that are out of college. This means our GM and HC are going to be turning to him for pro talent.
Him and Konz were Co-Directors last year and that led us to signing Mike Glennon.
Now I have no idea what Tim thought of Mike and why Mike ended up with the job but I don't like the nepotism in the front office.

Thanks for the correction. He obviously has clout since he's related to Mara and was used in talks with potential coaches.
That tells me this kid's hands are on more than just the players.
And of course his involvement with Flores led directly to the Giants being sued so we see how well that worked out.

I'm not talking about who's running the show. I'm talking about having someone work for you who is untouchable primarily and then there's the mole aspect.

you make valid points for sure. The only thing I am going on is I've never heard John Mara express so intently who has the final authority on the roster. Thats a departure from the past. While its only words at the moment its still a different approach. There are enough new ideas and new people to counter the nepotism.
