I don't want to jinx them but they have an outstanding young team with plenty of upside. Their D was extremely healthy last year and if that luck holds out they could be ready to take the next step. That was an excellent team that they shut down yesterday. One game, I know. But last year, the first 1/3 of the season, they were all over the place. This year they look like they can stick to their structure. And Zibanejad is usually a slow starter. If he gets off to a fast start, he could be the Ranger who scores 50 this year. He is that good. He is our best player(non-Shesty) and underrated in the landscape of overall league players. Last night you could also see where Kreider is likely to return to 30 or so. He blew a couple right on the doorstep where past year he would have found the back of the net twice. Not a knock on him, but just the scoring perils of his particular game. Kakko may blow up though, he looked like a beast last night.

They looked good. First game though, let's see if they stay consistent over the first couple weeks.
Unless I'm misremembering, they were pretty up and down the first couple weeks last season.
I liked what I saw. Panarin a couple times made me wonder what he was doing but a solid game by everyone against one of the top teams.

They looked great on faceoffs which they never usually do. I guess Goodrow is going to take over for Strome in the dumb penalty department. Kakko looks bigger. Miller is going to be great. Rangers should be fun to watch and very relevant for the next 5 or 6 years.

Rangers are a very skilled Hockey team on the way up. Got sloppy for a bit in the 3rd here. Gallant let them know. Foligno was taught a valuable lesson about cheap shotting one of our guys. That’s why we still have Reaves. Good deal.

Netting 7 goals against Fleury was awesome... I think he is one of the most overrated goalies ever... He benefitted from playing on one of the best teams in the past decade and a half.
Our offense looks good. Like was said, we got a little sloppy but responded well. That 5 on 3 was crucial. Up 3-1 and we give up a goal there and things could have gone differently...
Trocheck in just 2 games and I like him so much more than I ever did Strome... Vally even said in the post-game Strome had numerous chances like Trocheck scored on and only netted 4 all season. I bet our faceoff win percentage is better too due to him.
Anyway, really good start to the first 2 games. Let's keep it going tomorrow night in Winnipeg.

Jeter was never replaced during his prime as a player during a championship run like Fleury was by Matt Murray in 2016. Jeter also had 3000 hits. Has Fleury done anything comparable?

Great teams, 3 Stanley Cups, clutch and a ton of respect despite not being close to the best at his position.

Fleury was good enough to be part of a reason why they won a cup He alao won a Veniza in 2021.. If you want to talk about a goalie that a team won with despite look to Kuemper last year The Trent Dilfer of goalies... I can't think of a worse goalie to be part of a cup winning team in my life,Colorado did a masterful job protecting him because if a series came down to him making a series saving stop I doubt he would have

Vezina 2021 was a gift. He didn't deserve it. But that's my take. It was "Hey you have everything else... Before you get too old... Here's the last thing for you". Also, I would think, most Vezina trophy winners stay on the team they won it with, but he got let go. Vegas decided they were better off with someone else, much like Baltimore did with Trent Dilfer after he won the Super Bowl 35 MVP. Got picked up by Chicago and was terrible last season. Then got traded to Minnesota before the season was over and led the Wild to a first-round exit.
Fleury has 3 Stanley Cup rings... 2 of those three he wasn't the starting goalie.
That's like a bench player for the Lakers back when they were winning championships consistently. They did their part but to be considered among the elite? Not in my opinion. And of course, that's all this is. As fellow hockey fans, I respect your opinions but we're going to disagree on this.

The schedule certainly did us no favor. Rangers finally ran out of gas at the end last night. 3 games in a row where it was the season opener for the opponent and 3 in 4 nights. You kind of saw it all night, they were active for the first 50 minutes and got a ton of shots off, but not crisp and not adequate battle at the net front. Win 2 of 3 for the season and we will be quite successful.

Talented, unlimited potential. That said, they really need to play with more defensive awareness. Hanging Shesty out to dry.

Yea we were not great defensively tonight and even Igor was a little off it seemed. I'll take the win of course but we need to tighten things up while staying aggressive. Anaheim announcers were saying that the Rangers went away from their puck possession game when it got to 5-2 and it showed.

Absolutely terrible effort tonight, especially in the 3rd period.
We looked like the 0-5 team tonight and not San Jose.
Lucky to get a point after getting outshot 16-2 in the 3rd period. Can thank Igor for that but he can only do so much when we continually hand the puck to the opposition in overtime when there are only 3 skaters per side.
Really no excuse. We looked unprepared for how aggressive the sharks were all game. Powerplay, our strength I thought, looked powerless. Seems all teams have to do is stand along the blue line and prevent entry and we look completely lost.
Could have used a win and a strong effort tonight after the Yankees game too.
It was like watching the Yankees/Houston game all over 😐

I hate these first 10 or so games of the season, not just for this team but around the league too. Really need to see things shake out a bit. Hate to say it but the the loaded Rangers are probably a little full of themselves and on some nights are going to have this problem of overlooking "weaker" opponents. They better not take that attitude into Eastern Conference and divisional match ups. They'll have a target on them all year. I'll chalk up that stinker to the Sharks as just that. Gallant won't put up with that crap in the long run.

No idea what is going on with our Rangers right now.
Columbus played last night and got beat up by Pittsburgh and we are losing 5-1 to them with about 5 minutes left.
Halak let in a soft goal but holy hell what has happened to us?
We do not look very good right now. We went from looking incredible in the first few games to looking like one of the worst teams.
82 games I get it but what the hell is going on?
Before this game Columbus had given up 3 goals or more each game.
Again, WTF is going on?

And a lot of early opportunities shot right into the goalie. The team does not seem to be finishing. That may be something to watch, we'll see. Today was an ugly watch.

Not a big fan of Joe Micheletti but he said something about how they're not shooting enough and looking to make a pretty pass too much instead of hammering away at the net like they were in the first few games. That plays a part of it sure but that isn't why we look lost defensively. Hope they right this ship soon.

Didn’t start well last night but definitely picked it up from the 2nd period on.
That shorthanded goal was painful to watch. Should never happen.
We should have won. Especially when you consider we were playing against our backup goalie from last season. And Igor loses to him in the shootout 😐
90 shots on goal between the two teams (46 NYR and 44 Avs)
Both goalies played great. Glad we got a point but kinda disappointed we didn’t get the win.

It’s going to be tough if every goalie plays the game of their life against us. It’s early we will figure it out.
