Outside of Tyree's helmet catch because that's probably too easy, what is the most significant catch to you in Giants history? There are many great choices, I actually find it difficult to decide. I'm going to say Mark Bavaro's 31 yard catch and run against the 49ers. They had been down 17-0 in that game. It really seemed like a moment that galvanized that team and was a spring board moving forward. That 86' team is really the greatest in Giants history and that catch, on that night was a key moment towards cementing what kind of team they were going to be. I could watch the replay 100 times. When he drags Ronnie Lott, probably the biggest badass in the league outside of LT at that time, it's epic.
I wanted to link the video, but the damn computer is beating me again. Maybe someone else more saavy than myself can do the job.

Tough one. If you're talking about the most important "pass play". I would say Victor Cruz' 99 yard TD. That turned a season completely around.
If it's just a "catch" it is probably Manningham's catch down the left sidelines in SB 46.
Loved the Bavaro play. Were we down 17-0 when he made that play? I know we were down 17-0 at the half. And yes, the 86 team was not only the best Giants team of all time.....it was a top 10 all time NFL team.

Maybe a poll would have been a good call.

They were going to win it no matter what. I might suggest the great Mark Ingram play in the 1990 SB. That was pretty damned important. But to me...the Cruz play was it. That turned a 7-7 team....staring at being down to the Jets with 3rd and 10 at the 1.....and being eliminated with a loss......to a dynamic team that beat you with both the run and pass and played good defense. They were 7-7 and looking at a loss, and after that catch, went 6-0 and won the SB. I gotta say that the Cruz play was the biggest in Giants history.

Not the most significant, but Nicks long TD against the Falcons when he split the D. I just remember the explosion from the crowd. I had never heard that sound since MetLife became home.

Manning to Manninham was amazing as well. And then there’s Odell’s fingertip grab. Amani had a beautiful catch where he laid out perfectly and got both toes in. I think it was against the Packers.

Significant in the bad direction for me is Flipper Anderson, I was devastated. I thought that team was going to win the Super Bowl.

No one mentioned who, on 4th and 17...Bobby Johnson, right sideline... at Minnesota. Yes, Amani, left sideline in the bitter cold of Lambeau. I think you guys have the best all covered, along with Tyree's catch. Odell's catch was simply one of the best catches ever in the NFL, but had no significance in the scope of a propelling the team to a compelling playoff or SB win. In terms of max effort, after the catch... Bavaro's and Ingram's.

Significant in the bad direction for me is Flipper Anderson, I was devastated. I thought that team was going to win the Super Bowl. I was there, one of the strangest things I have ever been part of. OT The crowd screaming "defense, defense" and then the Rams throw long to Anderson and he runs through the end zone and kept going right into the tunnel! 76,000 screaming fans went so quiet you could hear a pin drop!! :-/ That was the last Giants game I saw back in Giants Stadium (and never saw one in MetLife). Been to all three Giants vs Broncos games out here in Colorado. Watch us get slaughtered as the sacrificial lamb to the Bronco's new stadium home opener. Watched us get slaughtered again in 2009? Then watched us inexplicably lay one on them this past October.

You guys picked all the plays I could think of as well. Though in all honesty, the Bavaro play was more a result of some Gawd awful attempts at tackling by the SF defense. Not one player went for his legs the entire time. I'd have to rate the Tyree "helmet" catch & the Cruz 99yd TD as the 2 most important catches in Giants history. Those 2 aren't made, we probably lose to NE in SB 42 & don't make the playoffs in 11'.

im a big fan of Steve Smith's 3rd and 11 catch in the Superbowl in Glendale. 45 seconds remaining and he just got out of bounds at the marker to stop the clock , huge play ( and we know what came next )

Ingram's catch was nothing, what he did afterwards is what made it memorable. Tryee's catch was the difference between a SB title & 4th & 10 & possible loss.

Tyree? i considered both catches and settled on Ingram's catch because of the time and place. i said to myself, if Ingram had not made that catch, Tyree would have never been possible.

For some , yeah. But I've been a Giants fan since 77' & the Tyree catch is by far the most important catch in NY Giants history IMO. without it, the damn Patriots & Brady are 19-0 & we would never hear the end of it how they were the greatest NFL team in NFL history & we were the ones that helped them do it. Instead, It's 18 wins & 1 GIANT loss!!
