Familia stinks too. A 1 run game in the 8th and he walks 3 batters?
He looks lost...

Thank god it looks like every BP in the nl east stinks as much as ours.
At least we have a closer.

Glad we took the lead, but damn Mickey Callaway should write a book called "The Death of Common Sense." Did he really just bring in his last bench player and backup catcher to bunt? His baseball decisions blow my mind. Isn't Dusty Baker looking for a job? I hope Diaz can close this out.
Edit: Diaz is nasty. Heart of the order struck out in order, no chance.

Not a single post yet on deGrom to IR?
And does Vargas look like a mental patient to anyone else?

He can opt out of his minor league contract with the Yankees tomorrow. They didn't even send him back early, he's staying with the team in SL. I think he'll be fine. Better to be cautious with him early. Pistol Pete again last night and we actually managed a win with Vargas on the hill. LGM!

I suspected something was wrong . I just did not want to believe it. If something more is wrong it probably didn't help him going out and trying to prove something throwing 99 in his first spring outing. I do think he is probably fine, but it would be so Mets for him to have something catastrophic 4 starts after being guaranteed 137 million. That's just the typical Mets fan in me speaking though.

MLB News: Gio Gonzalez To Opt-Out Of Deal With Yankees. According to Sweeny Murti of WFAN, veteran starting pitcher Gio Gonzalez will be exercising his opt-out clause with the New York Yankees on Saturday. The Yankees will now have a decision to make in the next 48 hours as to whether or not to add him to their major league roster or grant him his release. With the level of seriousness still unknown on Jacob deGrom‘s elbow with his MRI scheduled for Monday, he will most likely miss his next two starts due to the fact that he was placed on the 10-day I.L. Gonzalez could be a candidate to come in and be inserted into the Mets rotation as a temporary filler in deGrom’s absence. If deGrom’s elbow checks out OK and he returns to the team in nine days, Gonzalez could potentially replace the struggling Jason Vargas, who failed to go five innings for the second straight start last night. Not only would picking up Gonzalez be a cheap and viable option, but the team wouldn’t have to break the bank and overpay for a Dallas Keuchel. This move makes even more sense after Gonzalez recently just left agent Scott Boras for the CAA agency, where Mets general manager Brodie Van Wagenen used to be employed prior to this season. metsmerizedonline.com/2019/04/mlb-news-gio-gonzalez-to-opt-out-of-deal-with-yankees.html/

In other new Bryce Harper is still an asshat. It's just more appropriate now that he plays in Philly. That is all.

All strikes. All three pitches were strikes, strike 3 was right on the black. What is he the new Carl Everett? (who should have been hit with a strike by every single pitcher).....way too close to take (because they were strikes) and then you go off ad get ejected?
That's a good teammate right there.

Zack Wheeler seems to have found it again, this bodes well. The Mets are hanging in despite their supposed strength having taken most of the first 22 games off. Matz and Wheeler showing the goods the last 2 night. This team can clearly score runs better than previous editions, if the starting pitching comes around they can actually contend. Nice to see Todd Frazier jumping back in the action with the salami right there.

Bull pen decent when ahead, horrible when behind. Good thing every other team in our division has the same bullpen issues.

Nice guy to have at the back end. Familia threw a good inning last night. With the pitchers the early season cooler temps and lower humidity tend to cause issues. Generally gets better into the summer months.

I'm trying to wrap my head around the fact that Noah and DeGrom are our 2 worst starters at the moment. Utter trash really. Meanwhile we continue to get outstanding quality from Matz and Wheeler. It would be nice if the 2 "aces" came around. Additionally, now our plan is to get 4 useful innings out of Vargas per start and we refused to guarantee Gio Gonzalez a rotation spot leading to him signing with the Brewers instead? I'd love to hear the logical explanation for that.

As for Degrom and Thor, I didnt realize they were struggling. I remember DeGrom had his elbow issue though a few weeks ago no? Could be why.
