Concerned.
- Outside of Jenkins, they have tons of questions in the secondary. Among them asking if Landon Collins is the player we saw in 2016, or the player we saw in 2015 & 2017. Also, is Apple a starting caliber CB?
- They've struggled to get a pass rush for years now. I don't see how that gets better with them dropping JPP. I get that he was never going to be 2011 JPP again, but, I don't see how they fixed the pass rush issues. As much as people like the rookie DL players, rookie DL, especially mid rounders, don't tend to make big impacts.
They are well coached, and I think they'll be good against the run. But I worry about teams being able to carve them up in the air.

I'm sorry I fear I'm more concerned than excited. Those 2 weaknesses you mentioned, they matter. That sums up our pass defense. I fear we better be scoring often with this new offense of ours.

Concerned ... we have no depth at CB behind 2 starters who quit on the team last year, and it’s hard to see how we will generate a consistent pass rush.

We've discussed this before. He played NT for the Jets, did it very well, and showed enough to get this nice contract with our team. I doubt this is an issue, and it's really not a stat reliant position. They do seem to be loading up on DTs, though, even with Tomlinson drafted last season. There could be feelings of being replaced with a lower cost team mate, in the future. Can he go back in time and be a good NT? That is tough to do. The NT is the hardest position on the D to get right and master. If he can he'll have nothing to worry about because it is not a plug and play position . A good one is a rare commodity. An NT should be a minimum of 325- 330. Snacks is 342 . The only one that is close is Robert Thomas @331 . I forget, what does Linval Joseph run? He still seems to be eating up opposing players with ease.

Pass rush...Pass rush...Pass rush.
That's what it's all about. I have no idea if this DC can dial them up with the players we have.
Obviously concerned until he shows that we can disrupt the QB.

I think he ran a 5:04 at the combine:)

Read the post Rosey made on DTs . The problem with a gap NT. You need the ILBs behind him that can take on the guard and fullback and shred the block . I am not confident Goodson can do that. The jury is out on Ogletree. I think our LBs are more inline with what a 1 tech can deliver. With our linebackers I think if Snacks lines up as a one tech . The opposition can run the ball effectively away from the gap snacks would be covering.

There's been quite a bit of speculation that Vernon will be used more at LB than DE, maybe this has already been established in the workouts already. But he would be more likely to be on the outside, and not be able to contribute much in this situation, right?

As some have stated our OLB's generate their own concerns. As I have stated my biggest concern is our interior Defense. I hope I am proven wrong,

And supposedly the new DC was given a lot of say on personnel decisions, and who would fit his scheme.

One of the reasons I am concerned . Our ILBs have some things to prove . They do not have the luxury of 2 DTs over the guards to take on linemen as in a 4-3 . Ogletree I don't know much about . It is rumored he is not a thumper. Goodson I have witnessed him getting blown out of running plays by a guard. If we have to rely on our pro bowl safety to step to make a play.in the middle. It will only prove our ILBs are not getting it done. Once in a while is a good thing. Depending on him . Not so good. As I said I hope I am wrong.

Could have sworn today's Newsday had Ogletree listed as a former Pro Bowler, in a story about the "spine" of the Giant's defense. Apparently that is not true, hopefully it becomes true.

Concerned about getting pressure on QBs, no one stands out yet in that role. Betcher can scheme all he wants, but the opposition has smart guys as well.
