How could you not love this guy ? We needed a TE that was threat desperately and he filled the bill.

Absolutely loved him at first, but then I tired of him showing up the QB all the time....., especially after the big drop in the San Fran playoff debacle.... That really soured me on him.

I considered shockeybeast for a screen name. Old school BAD A . There was a guy on another board shockeystays08 that used to get his balls busted for being pro Shockey. None of those clowns must have met protocol for this board.
I was thinking the other day Bavaro - Shockey - Carson - Banks - Jumbo - Katcavage - Huff - Tucker would never take part in the after touchdown group pose like today's attention starved divas. The players have become so self absorbed and some even more feminine than the Giants from back in the day.
We we need more Barkleys and less divas.
Shockey was an azz but a true football player / wall to wall. As was Bavaro - but he wasn't an azz

I remember his TD when we beat the Eagles, 10-9 I think. A game highlighted by his TD, strong defense and Tiki fumbling approximately 19 times. lol!

I never took his histrionics as showing up the QB. I grew weary of his schtick as well but I don't think he was trying to show anyone up. I think he was a very emotional player ad got frustrated when things didn't go his way. Showing up teammates didn't track for me given the view from his glass house.

This absolutely isn't going to come out right: I don't think Shockey planned anything in his life, and just acted in that second. I don't think he had any intent to show up anyone.

I miss the entirety of those teams from 2005-2008. Shockey was great, I very much prefer him over Engram. Also, just look at how different the league has become over the last ten years. That truck would be penalized today.

I think that came out fine. I agree, I don;t think he thought this stuff through, I think he just reacted at the moment. Had he thought about it he'd have realized that he was in no position to show up anyone. I don't think he was clueless, I just think he was emotional.

He was an immediate fan favorite right out of the gate. It was a shame he got injured the year we won the championship in ‘07. And the fiasco that he could not be on the sidelines basically destroyed what was left in the player and organization relationship. He was a great Giant.

I remember both the good (great) and the bad vividly.
I remember being thrilled by his play as a rookie, such a physical specimen. I remember a defender grabbing his facemask and Shockey shook him off with a twist of the neck and shoulders....it was stunning.
I also remember him choosing self over team with a young QB back in NY and he down in Miami.
I remember as he moved into year 3 a bad case of the yips and resulting dropped passes. It was almost as if he had 10 Red Bulls before the game and instead of receiving the ball he was snatching at it and dropping way too many balls right on his hands.
I also find it difficult to forget his showboating downfield when he didn't get a pass thrown his way.
All of those qualities make it hard for me to smile when I hear his name, it is more like a twinge of pain.
I say this despite the fact that other than LT, JS was the most exciting rookie I had ever seen as a Giant up until that point.

I remember Shockey getting into fist fights with veterans in training camp as a rookie, kicking the ball like a punter into the stands of scoring touchdowns, flipping off fans on the field. Fan favorite in my area, his energy seemed to be contagious with many. From what I remember he didn't click well with Gilbride when he was brought on.

Shockey along with Bavaro are the 2 best TEs in Giants history. Shockey was Gronk before Gronk imo. He also trucked a Colts DB in a 2002 game I believe. When's the last time you saw a Giants TE go outta his way to truck anybody? The Lobster would do a somersault instead at the moment of contact. With a healthy Shockey for the 07' playoffs, I believe we have an easier time beating Dallas/GB & NE in the SB.

Yeah when we went from the New England hybrid we had under Huffnaegle with a few vertical option routes to basicly the entire run and shoot style option route system he was a horrible fit, mainly because he never worked with Eli in bvb that offseason and basicly free lanced, which is disastrous when QB and reciever have to read pre and post snap and get to the right spot That 2007 game against Minnesota where Eli threw 5 ints and 3 pic 6s...3 of his IMTs were straight to defensive players with Shockey standing in the vicinity, then the following week another vs the Bears.. But seeing him really makes me hope we get TJ Hockensen now

totally dug him...huge fan then he became a dickhead......or at least thats how I remember him. Tarnished it for me seemed to me that Shockey wanted the ball more than Eli would throw it to him and he was always bitching about it to Eli..
