At the end of day 2 of the draft are we really any better than last year. ?
Peppers for Collins Lawrence for Snacks Baker for Apple Zeitler for Brown Tate for Beckham nobody for Vernons position
Our 1st pick probably doesn't even play this year Our 2nd pick is a 2 down lineman strong vs run, weak vs pass, 4 sacks in 2 years Our 3rd pick we jumped Murphy and Williams and took Baker, hope Baker proves Getty right
I'm rooting really hard for Lawrence and Baker I'm assuming they both start as of Day 1. Passing up on Our Biggest Need a pass rusher and having Josh Allen fall into our laps and passing on him is mind boggling. Imagine that defense with Allen, Lawrence and Baker all starting Day 1 ? " What If "
So day 3 we still don't have a pass rush, this 3rd rd pick the DE I would be very surprised if he's the answer. Swing and a miss. Still no RT our 2nd biggest need imo, now we don't have a 4th rd pick so if someone is there hopefully we trade up.
Josh Allen would have been an " Oh Boy ", I think we didn't maximize our opportunities from here on in were drafting platoon players or ST players, depth. Younger and cheaper but no " Oh Boys "
To me I see a number of " What Ifs "

with our draft position and the number of picks we had I too think we blew a great opportunity to fix a few positions, especially the pass rush..

Sounds like Jerry Reese all over again. How many times did we hear from him that a player had "a huge upside"?
I'm starting to think these draft selections are more Mara than Gettleman.

To me I see a number of " What Ifs " I don't know. I'm in the same exact boat as everyone else, particularly all the people I've read, heard and seen who continue to act as though they do know, lmao. I'll know when they know, which is after the season ends.

So this is my opinion on each:
Peppers for Collins: Downgrade vs run, upgrade vs pass. Lawrence for Snacks: Upgrade. Younger, more athletic, and cheaper. Provides more value vs the pass. Snacks took pass plays off. Allows Tomlinson to go back to 5 tech, where he belongs.
Baker for Apple: Upgrade in technique on field and in especially locker room. The corners as a group is significantly better off right now than it was last year at the start of the year. There is also a 7th rounder not included in this comparison that we got in this trade as well.
Zeitler for Brown: Zeitler is a HUGE upgrade. Brown is a low end guard who worked hard, Zeitler was one of the NFL's best.
Tate vs Odell: Obvious downgrade on the field. There is a perception that Odell may have been a locker room problem so perhaps an upgrade there(TBD.) Odell's contract was a problem for a rebuilding team and his durability was becoming an issue. Has a conspicuous habit of getting injured the moment we were eliminated from playoff contention. Still an overall downgrade as Odell is special on the field.
Nobody vs Vernon: The way you framed this is incorrect. Lorenzo Carter, who was drafted last year, combined with Ximines, drafted in the 3rd round this year will replace Vernon. In his 3 years here Oliver Vernon has averaged 43 tackles and 7 sacks per season. I think those numbers will be EASILY replaced by Carter and Ximines. In fact, Carter alone, with only 2 starts last year had 43 tackles and 4 sacks ...as a rookie. I am not even taking into account Vernon's contract, which was disgrace. Based on Vernon's production and his contract, I see this as an upgrade. Carter and Ximines together cost a franction of what Vernon did, and I am willing to bet they will outproduce Vernon's production levels for his tenure here.

I really can't argue too much with what you say.
I like your analysis on Peppers
Hope Lawrence is as good a run stopper as Snacks. Doubt if Lawrence is even on the field in passing situations. Thus why I say a 2 down lineman.
Zeitler is suppose to be great but this is his 3rd team in the NFL, and Brown played terrific for us. Solidifying the whole OL last year after his arrival. His presence made the whole offense take off.
O'Dell was a generational player and nobody can replace him
As far as Vernon goes I knew from day 1 what he was. He was just the best available FA pass rusher the year we had the money. I think he only had double digit sacks once in his career. I kept arguing with Giant fans he was overpaid but was suppose to be the #2 pass rusher behind JPP. Hope your right with Carter and Ximines, hopefully Carter is better his 2nd year.
Oh and Baker has to be better than Apple on and off the field.
Hopefully I become more enthused and your analysis is correct as the season goes on. I do think your response was really excellent.

To me I see a number of " What Ifs " Shouldn't it be Zeitler for Omemah (who was significantly worse than Jones)? Jones was a mid-season pick up. Omemah would be consistent with including Apple and Snacks, since none of the 3 made it to the end of the season.

I guess if you go to the original lineup Zeitler replaces Omaneh but Brown replaced Omaneh half way thru the last season. Omaneh was alreadty replaced so I felt Zeitler actually was replacing Brown who was the RG at the close of last season. Sorry but I can't recall Jones.
I was just putting the positional replacements up for a match up to compare to see what Giant fans thought.
