Mine are Barry Bonds, Mike Trout, and Daryl Strawberry (in his prime before the drugs). Who are yours. Mike Trout will be the best player ever by the time he retires. Tell me why I am wrong about that.

I'm just a little bit younger, but those are some excellent choices.

Hank Aaron Willie Mays Mickey Mantle I saw those guys mostly at the ends of their careers. So I didn't include them.
Clemente was still great when I saw him. He was the best pure baseball player I ever saw. Both offense and defense. I've never seen an arm like that since.

I’m surprised no one said Manny Ramirez. I know he’s one of many guys who got linked to steroids. But from a hitters perspective he was great. Power to all fields, great eye. He was the one player when he was with the Red Sox that I feared could break a game open with one swing of the bat.

Bonds Trout Gwynn Now if we aren't including Bonds because of steroids, Trout Gwynn Griffey Jr Griffey, Trout, Arod. Honestly, I'd put Trout above Griffey and I loved Griffey. Trout is a reincarnation of Mickey Mantle. Arod was amazing too but again, roids. Are you old enough to see Tony Gwynn play? The best pure hitter I've seen in baseball. He had 1 year of his 20 year career he hit under .300 and it was his rookie year with only 190 ABs when he hit .289. 8 time batting champion. Never had the power though. But if he played now a days you would see 20+ HRs a year along with a .340 BA every year.

How about Vladimir Guerrero? He is in my top 6 or 7 I think. Loved watching his ABs. 449 career HRs and a .318 BA, 140 OPS+

Hank Aaron Willie Mays Mickey Mantle Thank you, yes I am. Mantle is really the only very old one. This was a hard exercise because every time I look at someone else's list I say "oh, crap I forget about him.."

May I 2nd this. Perhaps Henry Aaron instead of Jackie. And me as a kid as a die hard Dodger fan suggesting that Jackie's out. I should be whipped. I still follow the Dodgers and always have even though I switched my allegiance to the Mets. Can't help myself. But Koufax is my all time favorite, even over "The Duke". (who I met in person)
Mike Trout is a reincarnation of Mickey Mantle before he hurt his knees. The sky is the limit with Trout.

The Duke was my favorite player, barely edging out Pee Wee. ( Do you remember the night Duke hit three homers and barely missed the fourth when his high line drive hit the 40'-high right field fence about a foot from the top?).
I included Jackie over some other very worthy candidates (e.g. Teddy Ballgame, Joe D., Hammerin' Hank, Campy, etc.) for a couple of reasons.
First of all, he indeed was 'The First', and oftentimes in his early years he had to literally fight for his rights. He made it a lot easier for the guys who came after him. He singlehandedly made the game better.
Secondly, I never saw anyone who could take over a game the way he could, both with his bat and his base-running. When he got on first, he would dance and feint repeatedly, daring a throw and driving the pitcher to near-distraction. Around 1952 or so, WOR-TV devised a special technique to feature Jackie's antics. They were able to selectively overlay a view of first base along with coverage of the pitcher (as far as I know, the first time such camerawork had been attempted). Jackie was the reason for the development of a new video technique!
