NIck Fotiu vs just about anyone. That boy could fight!!! Before my time but from the YouTube videos looked like he has professional boxing skills. Didn't seem to lost many, if any.

NIck Fotiu vs just about anyone. That boy could fight!!! Yes he could. If the great old teams of the Rangers under Emile Francis would have had him on their team they would have won a few Stanley Cups imo. But Fotiu had a chance in hell of playing for Francis the purest. Yet I still think Francis was the greatest Ranger coach of all time. Those teams had so many great players but kept getting beat up by Boston and Philadelphia. They needed an enforcer terribly.
God I loved those old Ranger teams of the late 60's and 70's.
But my next thread is why I found myself in love with the Islanders

My greatest hockey fight was when Clark Gilles of the Islanders beat the living crap out of Dave Schultz of the Flyers. Schultz was the bully of the NHL. What he did to Dale Rolfe (D) of the Rangers in a playoff game. I was so excited watching Gilles kick Schultz ass I almost had an orgasm. The entire Hockey world was waiting for this for years.
Gilles also beat the crap out of Terry O'Reilly of the Bruins 3 times in a 7 game playoff round. Both these fights helped the tough Islanders hold their own so their talent could win them 4 straight Stanley Cups.
Gilles also could play Hockey scoring 30 goals numerous times and had 90-100 pts per season. It was no accident he played left wing on the Islander all star line of Trottier and Bossy. The left wing protected Bossy while producing.

seems to me over time Rangers have mostly been on the receiving end of the rough stuff:
- shultz pulling rolfe's hair while pummeling him, no rangers bother to intervene - gilles breaks hospodar's jaw - dome cuts probert, then is repeatedly pummeled in several follow-up matches - and certainly one of the worst beatings of all time, when gordie howe reconfigured Lou Fontinato's face
most of these before my time, but seem to linger in rangers lore. guess we had some tough guys like kocur, but he was near end of his career and had trouble with his hands (from hitting some many guys helmets when he was with detroit). derek boogaard was always over rated, and of course got pummeled in a rangers uniform.

The one or two times I saw Phil Espo fight, he kicked some ass. Almost never did though.

Potvin vs Hextall was a great one imo. Goalie brawls were epic I was always happy to see Billy Smith get his ass kicked. He didn't fight much, but to his credit he didn't back down from dropping his gloves. He was a cheap shot artist but if he didn't back down if someone went after him and he went after guys that retaliated his slashes from the net. I remember Lindy Ruff kicking his ass after a cheap shot to the face one time. Smith was the kind of guy you loved if he was on your team and hated if he wasn't. I hated him because he was a punk but man, you couldn't have a better goalie in the playoffs than that bastard.

Dale Hunter was dirtiest and most disgusting played i recall ever seeing. Unfortunately league kept allowing him to get away with it
