SAD.. Can't beat his addiction, throwing his life away ...(literally) Once drugs get a hold of someone, it can definitely be a battle to the death. The Doc Gooden story to me is very sad. He could have been a HOF player, but is remembered a lot for throwing it all away.

It's awful. He was such a phenom and such a great young man. He is losing to it and it's sad to see. I wish him nothing but the best and I hope he can turn it around. Every junkie's like a setting sun....

I knew once he retired he would relapse back to his addiction. Guys like Gooden need structure, when he played he had a busy schedule. Training, travel, games, testing, he couldn't do whatever he wanted if he wanted to keep playing baseball. Now with time on his hands and a addiction it's a bad combination.
Just like LT has once said. "Football was easy for me, life isn't." The same can go for Gooden.

TV and culture like the feel good aspects of people who overcome addiction, but sadly Doc represents the all to common reality.

This is why I think the league needs to do more than kick guys out for pot....Mandatory counseling should be the first two penalties

Oh my goodness. Doc has been sick for a very long time. Doc is a good guy for all that I know. The addiction just has an extreme hold on him.
