He didn't play last week, and will sit out this week too. They are hoping to get him back for the start of the season.
You don't like to see people get hurt, but man this guy always seems to be hurt. Good move by whoever our GM was at the time to let him move on.

I’ll never forget the playoff game against the Packers where Mike Daniels threw Pugh to the side like it was nothing. Gettlemans best decision was letting Richburg and Pugh walk.

I didn't realize Pugh still even had a job in the NFL.

Hated that pick from the time the card was turned in until he was finally mercifully removed from the organization

I always felt that he was a good OLman when healthy..... Unfortunately that was VERY infrequent

He will make the NFL's all IR team again this season.

I always felt that he was a good OLman when healthy..... Unfortunately that was VERY infrequent He was always pushed into the backfield. He was an average pass protector and a poor run blocker. He got 9 mil per but it was really like getting 9mil for 10-12 games a season which I’d pass on an average OL. Arizona was desperate for OL help.

I thought Pugh was a pretty good lineman when he was healthy. Unfortunately, his health has been an achilles heel for him.

Speaking of Richburg; he's been on the PUP the entire camp and being targeted to return ahead of Week 1.
Richburg had surgery after the season after sustaining an injury Week 4. He missed one game after that but wasn’t nearly as effective as the 49ers would have hoped.

I thought Pugh was decent at RT. Not so much at LG.

I thought Shanahan said he was the best center he's ever coached or something like that?

I thought Pugh was decent at RT. Not so much at LG.
He played where he was asked. I would think so much moving around, not just from either side of Center, but position skill set and positioning himself differently, may have contributed to his poor health history.

He had the footwork and technique to play right tackle well, his strength was his weakness. And as much as we mock his arm length, that too was an issue at the tackle position. He is the perfect example of why free agency is good and bad. He is way overpaid for what he brings to the team.

How does one become injury prone playing multiple positions? Justin Pugh is a walking doctors note.

That is what he suggested as well. I've never heard that idea put out there otherwise, however. I'm not an expert on sports medicine so can't say anything to the veracity of the idea.

Maybe he was the best center for the 4 weeks prior to getting hurt?

He only played an entire season once. His rookie year. The last 3 years he's missed 22 games.

I would think there are stresses put upon different areas of your body, and the defenders attacking from a different angle or technique. As you said, if his arms were too short for a certain position, he would have over-compensate stretching to try and block effectively. It's just a thought, and might not be an issue for every player.

I don’t bother to overthink the issue. I just chalk him up as injury prone. He would tear his meniscus walking to the mail box.

I disagree, I thought he was an average run blocker and a decent to good pass protector....When totally healthy, which was once in a blue moon. His best asset was his versatility though. Happy he got his big pay day, and happy it wasnt from us, LOL

He’s a pretty good lineman but never healthy. I didn’t want him resigned for that reason. No point. He doesn’t play.

Gettlemans best decision was letting Richburg and Pugh walk. his second best move was sending Hart Jerry Flowers packing and seeing he screwed the pooch and sending Omameh's rear end down the road to.

He was a bottom third guard before he got hurt last year Glad he's where he is and isn't here another first round bust.

He was terrible before he got hurt last year him and richberg both are hurt and both weren't very good last year before injuries think they were both bottom third.

Maybe he was the best center for the 4 weeks prior to getting hurt? He was bottom 3rd last year maybe to do with the injury but he was never any thing but average here and weak in the run game. Pugh had that one good year at guard he was originally a left tackle so playing left guard agreed with him. He was terrible after that and always hurt and still is, the problem with these two players they were finesse no mean streaks no nastiness, look our line now last year as a rookie Hernandez is fighting and malling Jaylon Smith every chance he get Sand vanderesche also, Zietler is the same kind of player the giants have their attitude back on the OL.
