LOL there were people who actually watch film and get scheme fit and understand the nuances of NFL QB play that actually liked Jones a lot. DG could be wrong but it won't be because the Dan Graziano's and who ever else that watched 0 of his film said so, from what I have read and this is before Jones flashed in camp most NFL people believed in him. Baldinger said it when the Giants drafted him he is gonna be a good one.

All do respect this isn't the old NFL it's a set beck but no longer 5 years, look at the Cards. At this moment he is getting the last laugh Rosen who was the popular choice for a trade didn't look so hot, Haskins was a hot mess and the Cards looked like winners by admitting they screwed up, now all they need is Murray to do what he does. DG at this moment can at least say DJ showed he can play in this league and possibly at a high level. #1 - The Cards havent shown they are out of the pit yet. So it could still be 5 years. Lets see them win. #2 - They fired their HC after 1 year. Lets not use the Cards as an example. I dont see them being good for a while. Are you inferring if DJ looks terrible this year, we can just draft another QB next year, trade DJ and fire Shurmer and all it good? We are out of the set back? All I'm saying is that if you miss on a QB it is no longer a death sentence just because of the structure Jones is gonna get his money and the Giants can still hunt for a QB, after Murray first pro exposure he looks like he can handle it we will see. What I am saying that in 2-3 years if they don't like what they see they can draft another QB where are you getting fire the coach and trade DJ , the Giants are not the Cards but there is more then one way to skins cat.

Winning cures all. IF we dont win more than we lose the next 2-3-4 years, the revolving door is still open. New HC, new GM ect... And Mara was wrong. Only time will tell. I dont see OBJ as his biggest move though. I see him drafting DJ as his biggest move. It all depends on that pick. If he is right, 90% of people have to eat their hats and admit DG AND FBOMB WERE GENIUSES.. If he was wrong, he is going to get slaughtered for making such an unpopular pick and setting the franchise back 5 years at least. Fixed that for you.

Towards the end yea I really think he did.....sadly. Just my opinion. Rash FA moves to simply save his job....definitely not to make the franchise better....as a matter of fact the contracts he signed were a detriment to the team more than anything. It was to get better for one year only.....not the long haul. We overpaid pretty much every free agent acquisition but I get that you have to do that in this day and age to get the perceived top end talent. I agree. At the end Reese was a guy who had his back against the wall and did anything and everything to prolong what was the inevitable. He forgot what got him into position of being a GM in this league. I’ve said this many times, JPP was a blessing and a curse for Reese. He hit a homerun with JPP, but then got arrogant and thought he could find diamonds in the ruff every year. That’s how we ended up with the James Brewers and the Ereck Flowers of the league. Barkley is a game changer, but only if he has a great QB or a dominant defense as well will he start winning games. But a great QB or dominant defense doesnt need a great RB to win games. A great QB can mask many deficiencies on a team. A great running back is good for fantasy football. What’s odd is Gettleman took a chance at Jones at 6 this year. But last year instead of going with Darnold or the other QB’s he went with the safe pick in Barkley. Isn’t this the same guy who’s all about taking chances?? No one can save a bad roster look at the Packers their roster slipped and AR couldn't save them QBs need protection at least decent and they need a defense that can get them the ball back, Drew Brees a few years back when the Saints roster was slipping he had a couple bad years but Loomis pulled it together with 2-3 strong drafts in a row, same with Rivers all these guys including Eli were struggling together with week roster difference is Reese couldn't dig him self out of the hole he dug Loomis did and I think the Charges made the necessary changes in the front office and coaches before it was to late.

Same can go for the Packers, those were some bad rosters in Green Bay, but yet they still were competitive because of Rodgers. A big big knock on Eli is he never picked up the team when they needed him most. He's a franchise QB, this team needed him to play at a higher level and pick up the weak team around him. Instead Eli played to the level of his teammates.

Really so being that he has been accurate and on time through camp and now in the first preseason game doesn't say at least he showed he could play in the league and has the tools, really like you guys but don't let the DG discord cloud the facts, as I said it before it was a nice start and there will be bumps in the road there always is unless you walk into a situation with a team loaded waiting for a QB, when Mayfield did that to our 2s and 3s a year ago this board went gaga over him but when Jones does it it's nothing, how is it wishful thinking did you guys spends hours with this prospect and study 100s of hours of film, he has as good a chance as anyone else.

I did LOVE what I did see though on those 5 throws.

I think because the college tape is still very relevant at this moment. And he had some good and some bad tape there. And normally when you have a QB coming out of college who looks pretty average with bad and good tape on him, it doesnt translate well in to the NFL.

Every player who's drafted in the NFL has the tools, hence why they were drafted. So practice and one series in the 1st preseason game is enough that he can play in this league? Let me understand that, you and all your years of watching the game have come to a conclusion that Daniel Jones can play in this league? Hell, he should start week 1. His accuracy is not in question, and his timing is solid. Why is Eli even starting then? I see it maybe because when the games actually matter Jones will not see a soft cover 2 and no blitzing? Maybe when these coordinators have some film on the kid they will attack his weaknesses and confuse him? And what does Gettleman have to do with this? You're basically saying I can't come up with my own opinions because my distaste for Gettleman clouds my judgement. And we better hope Jones is as good or better than Mayfield. Because Mayfield showed he can play in this league and be in the conversation as a rising star. Jones right now is praying he gets that opportunity this year.

As for DJ, it was a huge gamble more than unusual due to the projection and perception of DJ. Doesnt mean he is wrong, but when you make an unpopular QB pick ealy in the draft, like a Christian Ponder who no one thought would be good, and he flames out, then it is all on you for making a stupid pick when everyone else said it was dumb. But if its a highly thought of QB, like Luck, and it doesnt work, then everyone has egg on their face. The DJ pick was like the Ponder pick. A totally unpopular pick where no one (outside of FBomb) really thought much of him. That’s a media narrative. We don’t know what real inside NFL opinions were on Jones. The odds are that he was rated MUCH higher than everyone was led to believe based on everything I have read and heard. Jim Nagy who directs the senior bowl has in particular been saying “I told you so” regarding Jones. He got a lot of feedback directly from teams. Considering the little hype machine behind Haskins the odds are Haskins was rated Lower and Jones rated higher than what the media has been spewing

None of this nonsense is true except in a very specific court of public opinion. It's projection built on speculation. All the if/then sentences in this thread are built off an "if" that presumes the media is right about prospects in the drafts. That's where the entire strawman collapses. I don't know any knowledgeable football people that would accept such a ridiculous premise. Of course sports talk radio hosts and their ilk accept it all day and twice on Sundays.

There's no hard path for this, it's a completely flexible tube. It's the team record or the stats they're interchangeable whichever is more or less favorable based on narrative. It's circular and there ain't no right or wrong, just differences of opinion.

Your last statement isn’t true at all. Why not? I think there were plenty of people that liked DJ before the draft, just the way it played out, passing on Allen really surprised a lot of us. Like the Saquon over Darnold argument, the same thing could have been said about Allen over any QB available when we picked. I had no problem with DJ over Haskins, and the word on the street after the draft about the whole branding thing cemented my view there. If DJ plays at a high level, in a few years no one will remember that we passed on Allen.

His tenure with the Saints has been very impressive.

I keep seeing people make this claim and I have to ask. Do you only watch the offense? More than a few players on that defense quit with Riley finally getting bench after it was too late. And see what happened he got benched something new and unusual for the Giants. In a year and a half they weeded out the over paid under performing the whiners the guys who want the money but no part of leading and the under talented. Even the ones they signed were sent packing if they didn't perform when I said team I meant team no one ever said just offense. Bottom line is I been saying this for 4 years now and DG said so it made me laugh. There are fans here that want to keep the guys here that seem to underperform here. Insanity is doing the same thing over and over hoping the end result will change. If were gonna lose I'd rather do it while trying to get better with young first contract guys then paying guys or keeping guys already getting paid that made 0 difference in the won loss column. Yeah he got benched the LAST game of the year. lol He wasn't the only one who quit and going by your story then Jenkins should be gone also.

“I think the best thing for me about Dave is he makes decisions he feels are in the best interest of the franchise and he doesn’t give a damn what people think about it, be it the media or be it fans or anybody,’’ Mara said Tuesday. “He has the courage of his convictions and you have to have that. He set about to try and rebuild this team and change the culture a bit in the locker room. I think our last two draft classes are pretty strong and that’s what gives me confidence moving forward. I think we’re moving in the right direction. “Until we start winning games, it’s hard to sell people on that notion. But it’s what I believe.’’ I'm sure someone will complain because people don't like John Mara but this is 100% spot on from start to finish. People can ***** and moan about Gettlemen all they want. Last year was refreshing to see no quit and actually excitement and joy when they did started to win a few games even at 2-7, they wanted those wins. Just as important you could see the disappointment and pain after several close games lost in the final minute or seconds. Chemistry matters the team did not quit and resort to what they used to do start going through the motions the first sign of trouble, it took guts for the old man to send stars away in trades and let others walk and out right cut some it set an example no one is above the team no one will take shots at teammates coaches or the franchise in the media it was the right message to a team they was in need of leadership from the top to ground it. I'm sure the door is open for in house gripes just keep it there. It was enjoyable to see a team that sticks together and cares about one another again. It was wonderful to see Sterling Shepard step up in to leadership and quash that nonsense from Odell Beckham Jr. and rally that locker room around Eli.

I can understand why people are nervous with the moves, but if you don't see the difference in personnel already, you're just blind. Under Reese we had these finesse lineman and late round reaches. That's all gone.
And I still say Reese would have picked Darnold, missed out on Saquon, and, if things play out the way they're looking so far, missed out on Jones.

Absolutely, but you have to admit, if he drafted Haskins, the fire would be less hot. People expected Haskins to be an early pick. Its like, if Andrew Luck flamed out, can you really blame the GM? Luck looked like a lock. Considering the little hype machine behind Haskins the odds are Haskins was rated Lower and Jones rated higher than what the media has been spewing Gil Brant and Bill Polian highly respected former GMs also liked the pick..

Darnold and Allen vs Barkley and Jones. We will never know which would've been better unless Darnold is great and Jones isn't or the opposite Darnold sucks and Jones is great.

I can ride with this. I did not like the Jones comments though, could've been phrased much better and when you're in charge of a franchise long term your hope better be your new 6th picked overall rookie is contributing to winning football as quickly as possible, not a guy with a season or two left in the tank at 38. Has he forgotten it takes a couple of season to determine if a QB is actually going to be a legit franchise QB or not, it takes time, time in which this franchise hardly has being bottom of the barrel for how long now.
Oh but he can learn behind eli, don't forget the KC model, the GB model.. PLEASE... spare me lol. Mahomes and Rodgers were just damn good QB's period sitting on the bench learning from Smith, and Farve did not make them what they are.
Mara needs to think before he speaks sometimes.
