State your choice and reasoning.

We don't really need either one, if that is a choice. If Eli or DJ are dinged up for a while, BOTH Tanney and Lauletta (or better) will be available. Neither one is getting us to the playoffs so why not keep an extra WR or CB? I have watched both of them closely and neither one brings anything special. In Tanney's case the dollar cost is higher than we should bear. Even Carl Banks reiterated last night something I have been saying about Lauletta. "It takes forever for his passes to arrive."

I will stick with my original logic when we resigned Tanney. His contract was set up so that if he is cut there would no cap hit if he is cut. Lauletta while cheap, still has some rookie contract residual cap hit if he is cut.
I think you keep the guy you have to pay no matter what and you cut the guy who you do not, especially when you are talking about a 3rd string QB.

I agree with Jomo and I'd role with 2 QBs. Nothing against them but we can use that slot for another position of need.
Now if forced to choose I would take Lauletta. He isn't great but Tanney is what he is at this point and won't improve. Lauletta can improve and might be a decent backup.

Id go with Lauletta. It wont matter if we are playing our 3rd QB anyway, so why not go with the youth.

That’s some choices we have. So would you rather get sucker punched in the face? Or kicked it the groin? Either way you’re left disappointed.

Neither. We don’t need a 3rd QB. Practice squad Lauletta if there are some financial considerations.

I'd keep Lauletta. He's young and who knows he might improve and maybe they could even get some value for him later on down the road if need be.

I keep Lauletta. He profiles as a good backup. Smart and accurate. We need a backup for Jones loving forward and Lauletta’s arm should limit interest in him as a potential starter. I cut Tanney regardless. If they don’t like Lauletta behind the scenes just go with 2 QBs, but from what I’ve seen I’d carry Lauletta as the 3rd QB with plans for him to be our backup next season.

No reason for Tanney to be on this team. I go with the rookie contracts as the reason.

i think we go with 2 add a WR or RB. You mean you prefer that we go with 2, right ?(As do I) I just think it's very low probability that they go with just 2 since they probably want to dictate the terms (How and When) their future franchise (Hopefully) QB will be utilized.

I think Tanney has been pretty poor in the pre-season games I've seen him play this year, would cut him without thinking twice about it. Last night, Lauletta looked pretty decent, but I think if we cut him, he clears waivers, and we could put him on the practice squad. I'd go with 2 QB's on the 53 man roster.

Letting both go would be a HUGE mistake with a 38 year old QB under center. What is the plan if Eli gets hurt? Get a QB off the street to learn an offense in a week? That would not be wise. Keep lauletta because he has time to grow and he will likely re-sign with our team as a career back up because i doubt anyone tries to sign him as a free agent with zero game experience (Almost zero, if you count the turd fest from last season). Lauletta under the tutelage of Shurmur for another few year will either be a capable back up or a trade chip. Tanney will be retired so why waste time on him?

Yeah im not crazy about having just 2 qbs. In this case i go with tanney as a 3rd because if for some reason eli is hurt and jones just isnt ready, then all we have is lauletta and we really look silly then, we'd have zero experience behind center. i thought tanney looks a bit better than lauletta overall in preseason but i see most here think the opposite is true.

My feelings is won't matter. As far as playoffs. So, Lauletta is my choice. Simple reason, if he performs well . We can trade him for a mid round pick.

I think if Eli goes down Jones steps in even if we have 5 QBs on the team. He earned the #2 spot and is Eli's back up, not to mention the future franchise QB.

I GUESS Lauletta...
He is younger, has a cheaper rookie contract, he ideally hasnt reached his full potential, and we dont really know what we have in him
Tanney has pretty much shown all he will become at this point in his career, and its not awful, but its not great.

We could always see if Davis Webb is available from the Jets and he is cheap too. Plus appears to be improving.

The key is getting Lauletta to the practice squad.

Lauletta to the PS, Let Tanney walk. As most have pointed out, Tanney is the more expensive of the 2, and if we end up needing our 3rd string QB, the season is over anyway.

I can't find a reason to keep Tanney anymore. His contract doesnt cost us anything to cut, and he's not even PS eligible, sooooo whats the upside of a guy with 11 career pass attempts who hasnt seen action in 4 years?
