In the first preseason game? Jeez That’s the kind of money player I want to see in the regular season! I've heard before that the first step in fixing a problem is identifying the problem. Would you rather he made up some obviously false excuse or deny that he had jitters at all? I would rather that he looked like a professional QB instead of a project QB who can’t take the bright lights.

The mental aspects of being an NFL QB are underrated.
It's the most important thing. A lot more important than having a cannon arm.

This is the reason we didn't draft a QB at #2 overall huh? No wonder they wouldn't let this guy on the field at all last year he'd probably need a cry closet on the sideline if he ever had to play in a regular season game.

Pretty much every throw was high and a rocket but as others noted the reads were right except for one he tried to squeeze in. He needs to relax and take a little steam off here and there. It wasn't a good showing but still 3 more preseason games to see what he's really got. He looked like a classic case of a rookie trying too hard, think right before the half.....didn't they shorten his passes? he did a little better, I though. With the seconds running down before halftime, Cleveland was in a prevent defense, conceding the underneath stuff (I think). Can't give Davis much props for that particular drive. IMO.

Alright, maybe I was just happy to see a caught ball at that point. I'm sure they will school him at film time on his faults. I'm not judging this soon tho.

At least he took what was there, and didn't create a turnover trying to force the ball deep. That's somethin' I guess.

Eli has more than once looked like an idiot over the years.
Give Webb a break. He needs experience.
He probably hopes to be traded to a team where he can start. I would.
If Eli gets knocked out the season is over. Kaput. No backup (unless he's Earl Morall) is going to take the team to the SB.

Webb is not the reason they didn’t draft a QBI know, this team has been in an endless loop of plugging holes for too many years now. I'll even go back to the loss of David Wilson, it's pretty much be a downhill slide for years. It's hard to compete with the constant changes they've had to make. I hope we can get back to a solid team sometime soon.

In the first preseason game? Jeez That’s the kind of money player I want to see in the regular season! Yea but it's his first time under fire in the nfl. Lets see how his timing is in his 2nd time out. Hopefully he doesn't move his feet as much and he doesn't rush his passes.
My first time up in little league I struck out, my 2nd time up I doubled . Just sayin we got time to straiten him out a little. And he's not going to play anyway.

Who is going to trade something for him to be their starting QB?? Obviously, if Eli is knocked out for the season, we are probably done. What happens if he misses 2-3 games though?

I just don't understand the criticism of what he said. I'd rather an honest answer I don't like to a lie that comforts me.

I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s light out vs Detroit. That happens a lot in the NFL with young QBs.

(Check the 2004 stat lines for those games if you want a laugh). And he was a #1 overall pick with the super QB gene family. Webb played crapola but he is a 3rd rounder coming off a red shirt year on a 3-13 year when all his coaches got fired. Let’s tenper expectations...

I'd suppose seeing the rookie Mayfield looking pretty comfortable and sharp for the opposing team, in the same game, has some bearing on all this.

I'd suppose seeing the rookie Mayfield looking pretty comfortable and sharp for the opposing team, in the same game, has some bearing on all this. It’s comparing apples to oranges. Mayfield is a first rounder who will be getting the keys to the car and a good chunk of time to make or break no matter how he plays. Webb is fighting to prove he even belongs in the league at all. He is pressing (understandably) due to that pressure. Anyone who has had precarious employment knows the feeling. He will have to overcome it but I can’t say I’m surprised or that I think we can make any determinations one way or the other right now

He knows that if he fails his career could be done. At very least he would unlikely to get another situation where he would have chance to takeover starting job. That’s a heavy load. Hasn’t helped everyone and their dog talking about the kid like he is the heir apparent. Magnifies those worries even more. I like Davis Webb but he is a developmental QB prospect and if he finds success it is going to be after a LOT of development time and we will see lots of ugly. If you weren’t expecting that then I don’t know what to tell you. This team had great (SARCASM) backup QBs like Nassib, Bomar, Lorenzen, Wright, Smith...and some others...it will be fine to stick with the developmental guys. No need to make the same mistake as last year and being in a veteran that takes time from our developmental QBs. These kids don’t get much time and they need to take their lumps. Let’s see how resilient Webb is. It’s downright negligent to keep a “developmental” QB with “jitters” as your backup QB during the regular season. If he doesn’t improve, they have to bring in a veteran If anyone was suppose to be nervous it was Mayfield. There is tremendous pressure on him and he rose to the occasion. After the last pre-season game they should decide about this kid (Webb) and no lingering about it. I hate projects and worse projects that linger on our team. I won't go into it here but you know the list I'm talking about. The Giants project list. (see JR)

Unreal - Mac gets ridiculed for not playing the kid and then the kid gets blamed for his play. The fans are ridiculous.
