Crazy thought. Would Eli Apple make a good safety alongside Collins? Before last season started, the story was that he added quite a bit of muscle to his frame, to make him a better tackler. But the team would have to determine what other CB could handle his spot, if they considered trying him out at Safety.

Letting Cockrell go does seem like a very poor move at this point. Started for the Steelers...spot-started for the Giants....it’s not like they grow on trees. In today’s league you need them. It was a bargain to get him for a 7th rounder and he should have been locked up. Now we’re pulling out CBS from the grab bag smh Yup...our secondary concerns me the most on this team next to not having a real pass rushing threat

I'll reserve my judgment on this kid during the regular season You've seen him for 2 years in the regular system. You must have some type of opinion. As TCHOF said 2 years of garbage plus he quit on his team last year. Especially quiting when things were going south, that's a coward.

If not then we should cut ties with him...

I hear ya man! Might be another wasted pick... More like the player wasting his opportunity. He seems lazy and maybe a bit uncoachable. Was it my imagination or did Apple just casually jog after David Njoku during his 1st TD at 2:02 marker in the video? Isn't this what his teammates called him out for last season?

My guess is we'll be signing someone once the cuts begin.

Leonard Johnson looks encouraging. Agreed. They really need to get Donte Deayon and William Gay out there to get some reps in live pre-season action. Same goes for Curtis Riley at the FS spot. the kid from penn state Grant Haley flashed a little last night too.

What was it, 2 or 3 seasons ago and Reese was signing guys right up until the first game. I knew we were screwed that year. I had never witnessed anything like that before.

I'll be so happy if we can ever get out of this endless mess year after year. went from knowing we had good chances of winning " back in the 07/11 days " to not knowing what will happen in games anymore. I try to think I could be a Browns fan to put myself in a worse spot, but come on......let's get the ship right people, enough!!

I know he hasn't earned much faith. It's just interesting that everyone is on the "it's only 1 preseason game" tip, unless we're talking about Apple or Thompson apparently. I'm still in wait and see mode. We absolutely need to see more.

I've been to a couple hundred games since 1967. Never have I seen a Giant player have so little heart as I saw last year in the Ram home game. The Cameras follow the action, so you have to be at a game to realize some things... Like Apple's man running 8-10 yards right at him, and then and squaring in... and Appple just watched the rest. didn't follow his man across the fied, and there were no other receivers or backs in his area, and he just stood there all alone at his LCB position and watched as the action took place in the middle or other side of the field. Never once hustled over to help. He just stood there. It was disgusting. The least effort I have ever seen from a pro... and his tackling was horrible. Again, no heart to help his mates. I'd be happier with him gone. I'd rather have a 6th rounder that hustles than that lazy, heartless blob.

I know he ended up breaking his leg but I would feel much better with Ross Cockrell on this team. I see the secondary as the big big BIG problem with this squad. Why did they spend that money on Jonathan Stewart again? Letting Cockrell go does seem like a very poor move at this point. He broke his leg. maybe he could hobble after wrs on crutches.

That's assuming he'd also have broken his leg in our camp, that's a pretty absurd assumption. Cockrell was our best DB last year, I was surprised they made no effort to retain him. I also hate to mention it, but if the s***show were to continue DRC is still sitting on his couch.

DRC will never be signed by the Giants. The embarrassment factor would be too great.
