EAST RUTHERFORD — Saquon Barkley has been a lot of things to many since he first donned the Giants' uniform and set out to be the best running back in the NFL. Dynamic. Electric. Explosive. Offensive Rookie of the Year. Team leader. Record setter. From the moment he suffered a high sprain of his right ankle 22 days ago, Barkley has promised to return with a vengeance, and it appears – remarkably – that is going to happen when the Giants meet the Arizona Cardinals this Sunday at MetLife Stadium. This is set up to be the debut of a player we have yet to see: Angry Saquon. And Giants tight end Evan Engram says to trust him this one: opponents are not going to like seeing Barkley when he's angry. "We've gotten in some arguments, some debates. I've seen him get worked up, but I think this will be a good worked up. The SEC and Big 10 conversation has gotten pretty heated a couple times," Engram said with a smile after Monday's practice. "You go after Big 10 and Penn State, there are some buttons you can press. ... It's good for us to have him mad at everybody else." Saquon is the key. Get some balance back to the offense and it could get interesting quick.

Angry, happy, sad.. It doesn’t matter, we need him on the field as soon as possible. I’m not too concerned what emotion Barkley is coming back with, as long as he’s coming back.

Az game is a super 'Must win" game in order to stay relevant in the NFC Least race. NY will be in a tie for 2nd with loser of Philly/Dallas game & to tell the truth, I'm hoping Dallas is the loser as it would set up a battle for 2nd place game with us against them 2 weeks later on MNF, that is if we also beat Det to go into our showdown with them at 5-5 while Dallas will be coming off a bye at 3-4 & a 4 game losing streak.. Would be one of the most important games in yrs for NY.

Important game for us, not so much for this season, but it helps to continue the narrative that Gettleman got the right man. Cardinals have been playing better and better each week, Murray is starting to show he is a real player. You can feel the belief building over there.
We need some more of that back here, a win against the Cards would really help, particularly if Danny Dimes plays well, healthy SQB only helps that.
I don't think our D matches up well against the Cardinals though. Our big DL, while they can provide consistent pressure on QBs, Kyler has that ability to shake DTs out of their boots and extend plays, add in a crafty Fitzgerald and some speedy wide recievers, I think our D will have a long day.

A sound win over a team with their QB. Let’s keep in perspective the 2 teams that chose # 1 during Gettleman’s tenure are the Browns and Cards. The Cards are who we play Sunday. If we are “improving” this is a team we should defeat soundly at home. They are the ones flying across the country. We are home and had 10 days to get guys healthy and dissect them. I am hoping for string performances across the board especially the kid QB off 2 rough games. If we beat them and get to 3-4 that’s a sign of improvement.

I see Big Red has nothing better to do then troll you. I agree they really need to show they are an improving team but these teams like the Jets and Cards are a season a head of the Giants in their rebuild so those games aren't going to be as easy some of these fans think they will be..

There is no team that we “should” beat “soundly” Then we aren’t improved. We chose 6th. Arizona chose 1st. If we are improving at a better rate than them we should pound them at home. Their schedule has been a travel nightmare. They’ve already played at Baltimore and at Cincy. This is their 3rd flight from the southwest to the northeast and it’s mid-October. I have high expectations for this game.

Maybe you wouldn't be so unhinged if your expectations were more in-line with reality.

After seeing the Jets do something we have had trouble doing these past few yrs, beating Dallas, I no longer can say that the battle of NY is in our favor. Losing Darnold for those 3 weeks cost that team another win imo. The great Luke Falk was their QB vs Cleveland/NE/Philly. Now next Mon, we get to find out if Darnold can make the Jets more competitive vs NE than Falk did. I believe he will. People forget that NE has built this 6-0 record by beating on a ton of bottom tier teams or teams that were injury depleted at key positions like the Jets with Darnold & us minus like 70% of our offensive weapons last Thur. NE's 6 wins have come against opponents with a combined 10-24 record. We bash Dallas for starting out 3-0 vs low tier teams but so has NE. In the last 8 games is where NE's schedule actually gets tougher. They play Balt/Philly/Cowboys/Texans/KC & Buffalo with 2 easy ones vs Cincy/Miami. I can see them going 3-3 vs those 6 teams. Thanks to their 1st half cupcake schedule, they will still probably go 13-3 or 12-4 & get HFA, but I think that this yr, there are a few teams in the NFC that could give em a run for their $ in the SB, that being either NO/SF/GB

I’m not unhinged. I think we are a fairly bad football team unfortunately. My problem is people searching for ways to say we have improved. There are tangible ways to tell if we’ve improved. This game is one of those. Improved is beating he Cardinals. Still being a terrible team is losing to the cardinals. As far as I’m concerned this is a must win game for Shurmur’s viability.

You said earlier to be improved we need to "pound" the Cardinals. Here you say we need to beat them. What does the score differential need to be in this game for you to say we are improved? Personally, I think the D has been and will keep improving. The O is struggling against some very good Ds partly because injuries and a rookie QB. But I agree this is a game we need to win.

It’s not so much about the score as it is looking in control. We should be able to put together consistent drives throughout the game. Murray will make a couple of plays with his legs or buying time, but we should be able to get several stops that result in 0 points. This is a game where Jones should show solid footing and take that next step of his maturation. 1 turnover or less while still making plays.

But I'll still take a win, regardless.

Cardinals get Patrick Peterson back this week from suspension. 6 game suspension, which means he's rusty as heck & his stamina/endurance should be tested. I'd target him if I'm the OC.
