I think Rivera is certainly a much better choice than McCarthy. Why would people want Mike? Didn't we see enough of that vanilla and narrow minded scheme in 2016 and 2017?? If you're getting another offensive minded coach lets get one that has a diverse scheme like the Saints, please! There is a little bit of everything in their scheme. Getting the OC in any capacity from LSU would be epic Very possible, and many NFL teams will be talking to him about a job as an assistant coach......not sure about OC.

Hell NO. !!! Hopefully , Mara gets a clue. Whats wrong with Rivera?? He a way better coach than Shurmur and McaDoo. He's actually one of the better veteran coaches. Defensive minded guy he would hire an OC and a DC I believe. has won a lot and done it with our GM. Carolina has gone to the dogs since the canning of Dave for no other reason then he hurt some feeling while getting them out of cap hell and trying to keep it that way.

College game offensively and even defensively are incorporated in the Pro game.NFL assistances coaches never had to be on the sideline and be head of a football team. College HC at least have the experience on the sidelines.. Other alternatives recycle or assistant coaches Sure. But the college game is vastly different than the pros. From roster management to schemes to game planning. I just can't think of a college HC that came straight from the college ranks (with no NFL coaching experience) that have succeeded.y time So true. The talent level in the NFL is so far superior to that in College, it is not even comparable.

As a former player, Rivera has a great feel for the game in front of him and knows when he has to gamble, and when he doesn’t.....something that just comes from lots of experience, especially as a former player.

TC wasn't media friendly. Just come here and get us back to winning and making playoff runs. exactly, who gives a crap about the media or what they think about anything, actually the media seems to think they have all the answers and are smarter than everybody when all they do is put out things to drum up copy to make their boss happy.. That is one of Shurmurs best quality's dissing them. they are so far off most of the time.

So its an automatic no to hire a college hc because they had 0% success in the NFL?? Is this your pov?? . You mean like Jimmy Johnson or Pete Carroll? Pete Carroll had extensive NFL experience, including at the HC position, prior to his USC stint.

Anytime your in the market for a coach hiring one needs to fit your franchise. Right now this is a young and getting younger by the year team. They need a guy that can teach and communicate with young kids and get their attention and respect.

Some of you seem to be shooting down just bout every HC name thrown here, why? Who is it that you think this team should hire as the next HC? A newbie with no pro caching experience? A college HC? Another brilliant 30 something OC minded guy? Ya'll don't want Rex, don't want McCarthy, don't want Rivera, don't want nobody. We should be damn lucky some poor shmuck even wants to come here to coach this sad sack team. If BB were to leave NE at the end of this yr, that is my #1 choice to come turn this franchise around! Is Jesus busy? I mean, I know his birthday is coming up and all, but what's he doing other than that? I think hes busy lighting his menorah and eating latkes. On the other hand I heard he does have some college experience...

Even Chip freaking Kelly had moderate success with the eagles. Not to mention his offense (with Shurmer as OC BYW)is kinda now contemporary and widely used in the NFL

That's an incredibly small sample to be basing a philosophy on (not you in particular). And I never said eliminate the possibility of hiring an NCAA HC... all I have done is question its success rate. Thus far it has proven to be very unsuccessful.

Thank you sir. Shows some awesome flexibility and the part on Fangio he didn't get the bears in the top ten till year 3 2015 and 2016 they were probably build that 3-4. One other note is I always thought there were more hybrids then natural DEs now Rivera confirms it.

I'd totally take Rivera...He has had success in this League. Shurmur, as much as I wanted him to, has little success in this league. Sometimes a change is needed. Look at Andy Reid...now relevant in Kansas city and lost his job with the Eagles. Don't tell me you wouldn't take him if KC goes 6-10 next year...cuz that'd be bullsh-t!

At this point the NYGs need an HC they know can get this team on the right track. They tried with Shurmur and it hasnt worked on enough levels. Hiring a new and up coming College coach as an HC is not the way to go at the moment. A coach like Rivera has the resume for sure. The Giants are dying for stability......they just have not hit on the right combo to get it.

Norvell and Ruhle recruited leftovers . Plus, both coaches were former college players. Both ,have been successful in there programs. Will Mara do such a move. Probably NO. Mara is old school and stubborn.

I’d jump on Rivera and let him hire his own coordinators. A defensive-minded HC would be s nice change.

How is he a better option than McCarthy? Rivera had 3 winning seasons out of 9, 3-4 record in the postseason including 2 first round exits. If McCarthy should've won more, what does that say about Rivera who always lost?

I’d jump on Rivera and let him hire his own coordinators. A defensive-minded HC would be s nice change. My only reason for agreeing with this is that Rivera is very scheme versati with experience in the 3/4 and 4/3 so we wouldn't in all likelihood have to yet again change fronts And unlike 80% of all defensive coaches he isnt anti offense as he allowed Turner to bring a modern style offense in(most defensive minded coaches just want the qb to be a game manager and just not mess up)so there is a high probability of Jones's development not be stunted(Jones is priority number one )and we have a chance of having a top level qb leading a fun explosive offense to go along with a good defense to finally have a team feared on both sides of the ball

Was speaking to the posters that feel its an automatic death sentence to hire from the college ranks. Me personally I wouldn't mind the hire of Rivera or a defensive minded HC excluding Rex Ryan and Romeo Crenell.

A modern defensive minded coach isnt bad because unlike the old school versions of this kind of guy they actually realize that you need a good explosive offense in this era to compliment their defense and know there will be days the defense doesnt have it. I have to stress the most important aspect of a new coach is to develop Jones to run said modern offense at a high level so the defense' job is made easy making opposing teams one dimensional.
