Yes, the Millennials could never handle Coughlin and his belief in rules......something the millennials consider optional. How do you reconcile Coughlin’s belief in rules with the fact that he constantly violated the CBA rules? TC wipes his a$$ with the CBA.
Maybe that shouldn't be red......he probably does.

Coughlin getting fired was inevitable considering what went down with the NFLPA. Yes, the Millennials could never handle Coughlin and his belief in rules......something the millennials consider optional. The difference between "then and now" is, TC(or even Parcells) would not get the chance to "win over" their rosters. Both coaches had guys at several stops that hated them but learned to love them and run through walls for them. It's not just todays generation of athlete, its the NFLPA. Timing is huge between an athlete and a coach. Parcells got LT as a young pup, perhaps it wouldn't have worked at all if he got him as an established star. TC fixed Tiki's fumbling--resulting in the best years of his career, yet Tiki pushed back on his authoritarian ways. Many players talked about hating TC but ended up loving him like a father, most notably Fred Taylor of Jville and Strahan. Today I think the players union would interfere before the two sides got to forge a bond. Parcells had a big problem with TO--who had problems everywhere he went. Maybe if Parcells got him as a rookie that whole guys career could have been different. Can you imagine Parcells in todays game with the way he liked to use derogatory nick names for players? People scoff at "culture", but it's critical that the GM, Ownership, and Coaches all have the same vision and bring in the RIGHT good players. Much like parenting, if a promising player gets to drive a wedge between any of the above then it usually ends badly. The goal should be to build a team that doesn't want to run to the NFLPA and throw coaches/GMs under the bus. Singular focus.

These rules were agreed upon by the union and the owners. They are there for a reason. All the clubs' front offices know the parameters they must operate under...THEY agreed to them.
Tom got in trouble a few months ago when he complained about players not attending OTA's. That was a direct violation of the rules the teams agreed to.
We talk about Tom's rules....Well he MUST honor the leagues rules as well.
I feel badly for Tom. He won 2 SB's with us and has a good reputation around the league. It's too bad his football career has ended in this way.

I say we bring him back in a limited role... just to get his input on the draft. Can't hurt to have an extra pair of eyes that knows the business. Please no. It's time to move on. Bring in a new era. "We’re not looking in the rearview mirror.” - Ben McAdoo

TC's type of discipline doesn't work on this generation of "pampered, spoiled, entitled , me 1st, prima donna players'. He just needs to retire, these players aren't worth the aggravation & stress to his well being & health.

In this case, players were getting treatment for injuries, outside the team, which they are allowed to do. Tom was fining them for it, even though it's allowed per the CBA....that the owners agreed to. So Tom was taking their money, ($700M from Dante Fowler for instance) for no reason. That has nothing to do with anyone being pampered. That's an employer stealing an employee's money.
THAT is why Tom got fired.

TC walked right by Mara not shaking his hand and left the room immediately. And Tisch wouldn't allow it. Tisch hates Coughlin, Tisch didn't even come down stairs for Coughlins so called resignation speech. That ship has sailed.

Believe it or not, I agree with you here. Have to ask you in particular, could this type of thing mar his HOF possibilities?

In the end, though, I think that he will get into (or not get into) the HOF due to his coaching, not his front office work

It should be mainly based on his coaching, and I don't believe F.O. titles usually get much attention in this - but with the sensitivity to players these days, the union violations could become a big thing if his name is raised.
