I had a feeling about this this afternoon, and then Francesa said the same thing on his show. So I'm going to go ahead and share it here.
I think Bill Belichick knows what a one-of-a-kind coach Joe Judge is, and also that he was not on team's radars just yet. I think his feelings for John Mara and the Giants organization motivated him to further groom Judge by giving him the wide receivers responsibility this season. And then when Shurmur was let go, he personally referred Judge to the Giants.
Does anyone outside of those directly involved know this to definitely be the case? Probably not.
But I think it was likely the scenario. It kinda feels like if Bill can't be the HC here, then he wanted to send us the best candidate he knew of.
So if that was true, then THANK YOU Bill Belichick from all of us Giants fans.

Could just be the best Trojan horse job in the history of sports as revenge for torpedoing his perfect season. Judge is really just a functional illiterate.😋

Judge is really just a functional illiterate.😋 Well you’d think he’d try to do that when Eli was around I mean he did beat them in the big game not once but twice. Now granted he sure as hell proved we didn’t his help lmao

I'd like to see Judge / Jones become just as good and have just as much longevity as Belichick / Brady.

I agree. And, I think it's a little more involved. Belichick accepted the Cleveland HC job after the SB XXV, before Parcell's abruptly announced his departure. Then Parcell's recommended Handley as a last insult, resulting from his power struggle with George Young. I believe the Giant's job would have easily been Belichick's if Parcell's decision had come prior to BB accepting the Brown's job. Many believed that Parcell's waited for BB to leave before announcing his departure. Then at the end of '95 season BB was fired by the Brown's after 4 losing seasons in 5 years... but we were in the middle of Dan Reeves as HC... so, no room for BB.... and he goes to the Pat's. So, timing was amiss, but I always thought that BB would have been offered and gladly taken the Giant job if the timing and circumstances had worked out. BB had a warm spot for the Giants after his 12 years coaching with us. And, he was highly regarded, especially after his brilliant defensive game plan in the SB against Buffalo. A damned shame.
Despite losing to us in the two SB's, I think BB wanted to do us a solid with his personally groomed coach.
Thank you, BB…. I think this time we get it right.

It could go even deeper than what you have expressed. I'm not sure its all copasetic between BB and Kraft. He may have been all too happy to hand off his protégé back to NYG, the organization that gave him his first real shot. Perhaps he didn't want him ending up with the Pats long term if McDaniels left.

I had predicted Bill becoming our next Head Coach. I believe you are right on. He, for whatever reason could not make the transition, so he did the next best thing, he offered us his protegee and sold Judge's enormous promise to John . As i mentioned earlier, I love you Bill. You are a true Giants fan!

This is exactly what I've been speculating. Belichick may also know that McDaniels is a flake and didn't want to see the Giants go down that road with him.

I have not felt so positively about a Giants' head coach since Bill Parcells.
Just going by what we can see from the public view of things, I am impressed. And believe me, I am a hard sell.
IMO the Giants have something very special in Joe Judge, and they have Bill Belichick to thank for it. I envision a scenario where Judge is the Giants' head coach for years and years to come.
GO GIANTS

nothing to not like overall. The winning will come. Patience with a rookie head coach who has a team that was not right

Before game one was played I had the same feeling--that we finally had a long term coach who would build a foundation that will have players toeing the line and buying in.

I think perhaps there is even a part of BB that knew if he has a future role with this organization that he wanted Judge to be his guy. That’s a stretch, but it’s possible.

I just said this exact thing recently. When Judge analyzed Logan Ryan's INT last week on the Judge Report on MSG Network and mentioned Umbrella defense I cried tears of joy. I have not heard that phrase around here since 1990 when Bellichick and Parcells were last here.

I like Judge’s swagger, but it needs to translate into some more wins. We’ll need three more, with one being against Dallas. He has the lads playing hard and DJ has been better with the ball. All positives.

I'm impressed so far. But I'm a long way from buying into this fantasy.
Equally in that BB somehow knew JJ would be a great hc, that he did the Giants a favor recommending him because he loves them, and also whether he will actually end up being great.
It's a nice story, but assumes a lot and way early.
When we win a couple rings I'll thank him.

BB is a mastermind. He gave us his spteams guy so we leave McDaniels alone. Actually i too would like to think he has a soft spot for the giants.
