You should all go check out the interview with john Smelk and Patrick graham on giants.com. for some reason I cant post the link on my phone.
My big takeaway was he is asked about scheme and he says "scheme is about the people" then paraphrasing he talks about how he needs to learn our personnel and also understand the opponent and how to attack them and in some games we will be in primary 3-4 fronts, some games 4-3, in nickel it could be 2-4, 4-2, 3-3 .. goes right along with judge and being multiple and not putting square pegs into a round hole. I have always thought this was a big reason for belichek success. Most coaches are too stubborn. They have "their scheme" and they stick to it regardless to their personnel or the opponent. I love the way the new staff is talking. Talk it talk, but let's hope it translates.

Seems like a flexible coordinator and honest.
Would be nice if he had a better answer for "why he came to NY?" than "mostly for his family" though.

I don't care he runs a 1-10 defense as long as it can get off the field.

I don't care he runs a 1-10 defense as long as it can get off the field. Can 1-10 cover the TE? That to me still continues to be our biggest issue. All the more reason I want Simmons in the draft (if we can trade back and end up with Murray that would be great too, I think Detroit might take Simmons).

GT I saw a breakdown of Miami with Graham last year they as DC. He had them with 2 or three down linemen because they had better light personnel. Interesting to see how that changes we have good big personnel here and if Williams is resigned super versatile.

I said this last year when they drafted Jones an the same holds truw now...... Its an exciting time to be a Giants fan. A new young dynamic HC who "just" wants to be a head coach, big changes with the staff, 2nd year promising QB, several good pieces already in place. Another draft and good cap space.

One thing we do know, both our offense and defense should look nothing like they have the last year or three.

It is just as much about having a schema that places the player in the right position to make a play in coverage as much as it is talent.

I was looking at advanced stats this week and they actually back up my thoughts (and others) about the LBs being the worst part of our coverage. Teams completed 77% of their passes targeting the short middle of the field. Our LBs didn't stop anyone from catching passes. I think there is a real chance of Detroit taking Simmons but if they don't we need to grab him and fix our LB coverage issues. If we don't get him then trading back and hopefully finding a way to get Murray later in round 1 would be great too.

Sounds like a nice guy, but doesn't really sound convincing to me for whatever reason. Said all the right things. Just hoping he can get the most out of that young defense.

Even if we did . It would be a rare event for the Giants historically. We have only taken 2 ILBs in the first round.. ( 85 drafts) None in the past 49 drafts. Never within the top 10 Hillebrand (pick 13) in 62. Files (pick 13) in 70. I honestly think we need to take OT with our first pick. One that can play LT day one and move Solder to RT. Or draft a Rt to stabilize the position . We have not that had since Kareem McKenzie. We also need a Center. I say within our first 3 picks.

For C I think we need Creed Humphrey or Biadasz. One should be there in round 2. For OT we have a bunch of options. We will know more from Free Agency. If we can sign Conklin from the Titans, draft Simmons in 1, and a center in 2 we would be much better off. If we don't sign Conklin, then it's OT in 1 or 2 and either lose out on Simmons or the Center.
In the past DG has tried to fill holes in free agency so we aren't stuck targeting positions in the draft. With any luck he fills at least 1 OL position and an edge (DE or LB) at a minimum in free agency.

It is too early to tell what we are going to do at this point. IMO we just can't keep kicking the can down the road with a different starting RT week one every season.

Our Center last year was one of the worst in the NFL and he is injured for the season. We literally don't have a center lol. We have lots of needs and no telling how FA will go but IF we want a starting Center then round 2 is the right spot to get one.

RT, C, WR, pass rusher and LB are all major needs. My hope is for Conklin so we don't have to take a OT early. If we don't get a vet then OT must happen in round 1 or 2.

Dave knows a WR Pass rusher, LB will have nothing to do with protecting his signature career defining draft pick. A OT and a Center will. To me it would make no sense not insure that legacy with the best individuates to keep him upright that he can. That is the way i see it.

I think you can find a young Center in the later rounds.

There is no way he's going to be the same. And he was already a below average center. I thought Pulley was solid when given a chance and was a good starter in San Diego. If we don't upgrade I'd give him the shot.

The question is, is there an OT that is worth the 4th pick? Not many college OL are ready to play day 1 (see Eric Flowers). I'd rather use it on LB/DE and if not trade back if possible like you indicate.
