Some game calls trouble me:
- running Barkley up the middle on the 2 point conversion after hed just run 68 yards, and we'd had no success up the middle
- not having clay fair catch on the fumbled punt after he'd been shown as too aggressive not calling fair catches earlier
- more generally, the team looked like it was playing first game of preseason, especially on offense. Yeah Beckham and Barkley didn't play much preseason, but how to explain drops from engram and shepherd?

Engram couldn’t catch a cold in Antarctica. As for Clay, he has only one job. And that is to secure the ball on punt returns. The coach can’t fix stupid, and I would not be shocked he’s cut this week. The game plan was ok, I had issues with a few play calls. But that’s expected, first games of the year are always messy.
He has to figure out his issue at right tackle, his own fan base hates Flowers with a passion. Every bad penalty, poor block, allowing a sack the fans are going to let him have it. Either slide the line, chip block, put a tight end on his side, bench him. But something needs to be done.

I think it's too soon to be concerned about Coach Shurmer's play calling, we've only played one regular season game and adjustments will have to be made

I think some teams suffer from the stupid practice limitations more than others. Teams with new coaches/systems have it tougher. My only serious concern is how quick they were to jettison draft pick Webb, but are still trying to redefine the definition of crazy by thinking "coach killer" Flowers could suddenly pass block.

HC should have noticed and made it extra clear on that play he only had green light if he had 10+ yards of room. But mainly he was just supposed to fair catch it. Or he could have had ODB back there. Iirc last season he had 2 punt return TDs called back on penatly. I'm actually ok w/ flowers. That's one of the best Dlines and RDEs in the NFL. After the rough start he seemed to settle himself.

It matters not 1 iota if the player lined up opposite him is a no name rookie or an 8 time All Pro, the man flat out sucks in all aspects of pass pro & run blocking, he makes them all look great!

Yeah Beckham and Barkley didn't play much preseason, but how to explain drops from engram and shepherd? William you may be right but it's much too early to have serious doubts. On the 2 pt conversion Barkley was running much too high. If he was leaning forward he would have fallen into the end zone. That could be on him or the coaching. Barkley nees to know when to use his 230 lbs. and power his way in. The play should have worked. Though I will agree it's not the play I would have called. Double TE offense Ellison or Engram on a play action. Who knows if that would have worked any better.
We should have a better offensive showing vs Dallas. Same defensive scheme, stop the big RB. Hopefully we have more success vs Elliot than we did vs Fournette on defense. On offense Barkley and OBJ look in mid season form. And Shepard looked fine and it would help a lot if Engram could hold onto a football also.
Don't panic yet after 4 games we all might be jumping from the ledge, hang in there lets see what happens next week.

I liked a lot of what I saw today. I still think the best decision a coach could make is to try Flowers at guard.

You want to blame the coach for drops, a muffed punt, and a failed run play in our first game?
Tough crowd.

Criticism is fair. These guys are getting paid millions of dollars and fans spend hard earned money to support the team. The 2PC play was an awful call. The 3rd and 6 play call after the timeout was terrible on our last drive. The end around to Odell in the first half was dumb. There was a WR screen to Barkley in the second half on second down that made zero sense. We still have the terrible habit of getting the play call in way too late and barely get the snap off. We had to use a timeout or two because of it. That's unacceptable. I don't have "doubts", but just because it's the first game does not mean we have to stay quiet.

No idea what you are saying. It's sports - fans have the right to be critical of their teams/players/coaches.

I agree, Play calling did not lose this game , a pick six off a deflection , a muffed punt, and an offense that could not execute in the first half lost this game . They were in it the whole game against a very good team. If you were Thinking playoffs maybe people should reset their expectations. Can’t fix Reese’s mess all in one year

they haven't been this multiple in years they are just scratching the surface they have personnel issues but the coach seems to handle everything in a professional manner.

Of course, but had we scored on the 2 pt attempt you wouldn't be complaining.

Only concern I have with Shurmur was his decision not to put Odell back there on the last punt return. Dude who dropped the punt shouldn't of been on the roster let alone returning the punt in that critical moment. Other than that his coaching and playcalling have been a complete breath of fresh air compared to the slick haired fool from last year.

What I at least see trying to do is heck of a lot better than what I saw. That's good enough for me - for now.
The front office as a whole though, they're confusing me.

I wanted to see ODB field the final punt. I think he could’ve juked the first guy and who knows what happens.
The 2 point conversion looked rushed but not a huge deal.
3rd and 6 run play to ODB in RZ. Cmon let’s pass the ball there.

I think it's too soon to be concerned about Coach Shurmer's play calling, we've only played one regular season game and adjustments will have to be made I'm not going to over analyze individual offensive plays and performances, but two things overall bothered me: The downfield throws seemed to disappear, after the first drive or two - and they were working fine. Technically, no completions on them, with the 40 yarder to Engram negated and two to Beckham had pass interference called - but why the revertion to all the short passes to receivers the rest of the game, many not far enough to get 1rst down? If the line is what most expected, and letting Barkley get tackled behind the L.O.S. repeatedly, where were the short passes to him? Yes, just one game, but I think the in game adjustments could have been handled much better.

they need to work on the red zone offense. I didn't like the play selection, and execution had a lot to be desired. Jags are a very good defense, so the jury is still out. Dallas didn't look 1/2 bad against Carolina either, but aren't what we saw yesterday.

Thank you The schemes and play calls were fine IMO.He was trying to find ways to put the ball in his playmakers hands in space,we saw Tyreek Hill score a TD on a similar play in San Diego, the difference is that the Chiefs made the blocks to spring it and we sprung nothing but leaks. Penalties wiped out 50 yards of pass yardage.Drops wiped out another 50 yards. Blocking issues whether it be the O line or TE sabotaged some runs that should have wworked. If even half the malfunctions dont happen Eli has near 300 yards in the air,the pick 6 doesnt happen and we probably win. We saw the team use plays that have worked against us the past 2 years that we all wished we would run.

Who is this guy Clay and why was he on the field there? I have a problem with the decision to even have him on the field. Clay is another Gettleman flunkie brought in atthe last minute. He is an experienced return guy but that is what you get when you bring in players at the last second who have not been a part of your process. It was a mistake having him there in week 1
