Historical notes aside it's just a bad name for their current situation. Now, if Alabama ever gets an NFL team we may have something here. Red Tails is a classic reference. It's the friggin Tuskegee Airmen for God's sake. These were great men.
I have no idea why anyone would object. You must have a very low opinion of your fellow man.
My original argument for not liking name has been consistent and unchanged. Don't reach to make it about something else.

They are gonna roll another year with "football team" ? Snyder may think he's being cute and insubordinate but if they do ANYTHING this season he's gonna be stuck with that ridiculous name. I love the name. I think its absurdity is the perfect response. The english soccer teams use it

I assume you know what "Red Tails" represents.....Right?
It's the Tuskegee Airmen.
Would the Caucasians resent this? Over in Germany? For sure.

Would the Caucasians resent this? Over in Germany? For sure. But not in the US? Do they even know who the WFT is over there in Germany? Seems pretty irrelevant to me. Of course my argument is every racial group seems to have a stick up their arse in their on-going search to get stroked. That is except whitey who is apologetic to a fault. Again, Europeans, including Arian Germans, are irrelevant . . . let's talk 'Mericans and America . emoji

It would, from a PR perspective, take them from a questionable name associated with a minority to a great and patriotic name for another minority. But Snyder is to dumb and rich to recognize that. So it won't happen. Not much of a history buff but wasn't it an all black squadron because of segregation? Also in my opinion I would stay away from the connection to Tuskeegee. Tuskeegee expriments were where the US health department were injecting black folks with Syphillis to see what happens. Some people might take the name to be a back handed compliment.

I understand your stance and agree things have been getting ridiculous, but the level of perserverance that those men rose to is genuine and commendable.

Lol your attempts to segue this conversation into something entirely different is laughable. I still like the DC Liberty btw.

"I think it might be misunderstood" sounds incredibly weak. I may not always agree with you, but I've never found you to be weak.

It's the BS reason you gave. Here's and example that doesn't involve your beloved Redtails name. What if Washington was called the Washington Spooks. Then after years of protest they decide to cut the name. 2 years later they decide on the name Black Knights. From the Washington Spooks to the Washington Black Knights. It's just stupid.... imo

This group were called the "Tuskegee Airmen" because they were educated at a school called Tuskegee, and also called the "Red Tails," because they painted the tails of their P51 Mustangs red. They were the first black pilots in the US armed forces, and kicked some considerable ass escorting bombers and wreaking havoc over Germany later in the war. They were also subjected to a lot of discrimination, as you could imagine back in 1943-45.

Regardless of the great message that name would send, I think most of us agree that Daniel Snyder is far too gutless to call his team by that name.
He has the same level of courage that our friend Gunner is displaying in this thread.

I'm waiting for them to change the first name since, well, George Washington owned slaves.
In fact, how has the state of Washington not changed theirs yet? I'm sure all the spoiled left coast whiny brats and CHAZers would demand it since they are renaming schools and tearing down statues of our 1st president.

Funny when you think courage is being black and agreeing to a hypothetical scenario on a msg board. I'd like to see your display of courage being black during a traffic stop. I've learned rolling down all for 4 windows right when the officer opens up his door helps ease his anxiety. I've gotten 3 warnings instead of tickets for this "simple" act over the years

Advice...check the ganja laws where you are being pulled over...downed windows could be considered airing the car out. Be safe out there Gunner...while some big fat white offensive guards don't feel you...I do.

As a white male in mid 50s I try to see things from the other side as best I can.
regarding the Washington Redskins name just image if the team was call the Washington Crackers or Palefaces. Its just not right and I dont care how long they have been named that. Never too late to change
With the teams like the Cleveland Indians. Not offensive at all but what if they were called the Cleveland Whites. Not offense but just sounds dumb.
Plus who gave the Natives of this land their descriptive name/s? They didnt thats for sure.
Just because it been the norm etc doesnt mean it was ever right.
