Thought some of you would want to know, He was kind of like San Frans Nate Solder, Solder got more but tackles always do, Richy got close to 10 mill a year and one good 3/4s of a season is what San Fran got. Good luck to him he worked hard think he just didn't have the size and the makeup to take the beating.

I’ll always remember Weston as the “can’t miss” player in Marc Ross’ mind.

Glad it was the 49ers who gave him all that money. Richburg, purchase a large cattle ranch in Colorado.

Loved that pick the most in 2014 Was borderline pro bowl in 2015 and then injuries ravaged him..
Goes to show how hard it is to build a line ..you get a guy, looks good early then can't stay healthy for whatever reason

I’ll always remember Weston as the “can’t miss” player in Marc Ross’ mind. Ross was right. I can’t miss Mister Softee.. Kyle Shanahan called him "the best center I ever coached".
Unfortunately he tore his patellar tendon while having a great year in SF and the injury was too severe to recover from.
Richberg was a really good player.

Richberg was so typical of Giants players during that era. He was good at certain things, but the Giants always asked him to do things he wasn't good at. It's a good way to keep players average and keep your team inconsistent.

Fans have short memories. He was part of our disastrous line that couldn’t push a shopping cart. ‘16 was his best season, I believe he gave up only one pressure all year. However, he couldn’t run block for shit. Good player, no doubt. I still believe that was Gettlemans best decision letting him and Pugh walk.

It's a good way to keep players average and keep your team inconsistent. This was the disconnect between Reese and Coughlin He was perfect for a zone style scheme as was Richburg..especially after we bring in Mac..sign Schwartz(another good player that all of a sudden is injured and out of the league ) Then Coughlin goes stomping up and down for his human battleship Flowers (yes that was indeed a Coughlin guy as shown how quickly he was brought into Jacksonville),a power mauling type guy.. We have a line coach who was a power gap style coach (Flqherty) We now hae a line that resembles the island of misfit square pegs and round holes I'm actually convinced this is also a league wide issue witb how many teams can't build a functional o line and a symptom of how few good NFL lineman come out of college these days because teams are so desperate for anyone that can play that they just take players irregardless what scheme they are good at and tell the line coach to make it work

Soft, finesse player. Never understood the fit here. The guy got blown back off the line like it was nobody's business.

His style fit their scheme perfectly as they are a zone blocking scheme ... Remember in 2014 we switched to a zone under Mac and 2015 he was borderline pro bowl

He was? News to me.. Did you see the SF rushing game in 2018 and 2019?
Then it dropped by 500 yards in 2020.
I haven't watched film on Richberg, but it's clear he was a part of a dominant rushing game in SF.

This talk of him being really good doesn't jibe from what I saw.
I certainly do not remember him coming in and solidifying the middle.

yup... for the same reason our OLine this year will be OK.... good coaching to help make players better, especially to improve their weaknesses.

In ways that were clearly on him (and not those around him).

Wasn't true in SF. And there is a reason they paid him all that money.
....and coaching the O line has been a huge problem for us over the last several years.

I liked the pick for the Giants at the time. Marcus Martin was the #1 C that year for me though. And Swanson/Richberg really a coin flip for 2-3.

Richberg was highly regarded coming out, he had that one 3/4 season in his 2nd year with the niners where he lived up to his draft status but he got hurt, never really reclaimed the job an undrafted guy beat him out don't know who is there center now. He and Pugh had the same issues with health Pugh has gotten through couple years in a row and has be a middle of the pack guard for the Cards he was expensive to 9.5 a year.

He had 3/4 of one year where he was a stud then got hurt his first year he was a bottom 3 center. He was coached in NY by a guy who took undrafted guys here and got them in pro bowls Ohara and Suebert and built 2 undrafted guys and a 5th round pick into a superbowl champion line that was touted as a top 5 OL for a few years. Richberg was liked by all the analyst he never lived up to his draft status it was either health or inconsistent play the dogged him through out his career. His 2nd year here just like his 2nd year in San Fran he looked to be on his way but just like there he got dinged up and came back looking like he never played football before maybe it was lack of desire who knows but he was a terrible move for the niners at 10 mill per for 3/4 of one year.

Agree 100% neither of them have lived up to there draft status or the contract they signed with there new teams. Pugh is average at best and did miss a bunch of time with AZ the first couple years he was there at 10 and 9.5 mill each in hind sight it was the exactly what should have been done.
