I'm a longtime fan going back to the 50's, but I don't get into the numbers game! I don't know every player on every team and in fact could care less about other teams. I do have my favorites in games not evolving the Giants! Loved the KC win and the Rams win! So far, I like the Joe Schoen pick for GM! This could be our ticket back to winning games again down the road! He sounds like a no-nonsense guy that is going to be tough! Watching the presser, I get the sense that he is going to tear this team apart and start from scratch! He is going to bite the bullet and high salary players like Williams are going to disappear quickly. For a change we hired a guy with a great track record. If Mara fights him in any way, he is a jackass! You have been the laughingstock of the league and you better let him do what he wants. It can't get any worse than it already is. I have hope!

I liked the non-bravado approach with Shoen. Tough talk to the press and camera means nothing. We know all to well what Dave Gettleman kicking ass and a Joe Judge punching you in the nose for 60 minutes truly looks like. The Giants website is littered with clips of past Giants greats and a bunch of current crap designed to make everyone feel good about themselves. It’s time for the Giants to pick a competent staff of professionals and get to work.
Leave the team to do your talking on Sundays.

Oh, I forgot, they actually don't. Because if we were winning nobody would be complaining about the GM or HC personality. Literally nobody. So the complaints are just utter bullshit to have something more to complain about because we are losing.

To the fans who are shitting on Gettlemans and Judges tough talk. Most of you were eating out of Judges hand until a month ago. How things change when your ass is grass.
As for the current state of the Giants. Change is good, we needed it like no other team. This franchise has been toxic for far too long. First time in a long time they wiped the slate clean completely, and are starting fresh. The head coach and Schoen will now be attached to the hip. If they fail, they both go to the waste sides together. If they succeed, we have two men who are part of that. The Giants we grew up to are dead, the “Giants way” went out with the phone booth. The league is ever changing, and we had to change with it. Take a good look at the teams this weekend, what do they all have in common outside the roster? Good ownership, solid front office, and excellent coaching. The three necessities to a successful franchise.

The "non bravado approach" or the "bravado approach" Personally, I don't care if the GM answers all questions at a press conference by farting in Morse code into the microphone. I only care if he does a good job making this team into a winner. You will see a bunch of people complain about that, until the team wins, then they will think its funny because the media are idiots anyway. Because they never actually cared about it in the first place. They care about winning and having an entertaining team to watch. All the other complaints only exist when the team is losing.

John Mara like bravado if you haven't noticed. He's liked to see the toughness in the attitude of his Giants. Look at Dave. Look at Pat Hanlon. JOhn has always derived a sense of pleasure when he sees his head coach barking at players.
I found this GM to be different in that regard. Less rough around the edges. Dare I call him more normal?
Here's to normal.

I got the opposite feeling...Schoen sounded conservative and not a guy who likes flashy changes to a roster and signing overpriced free agents. It sounded like he's only going to cut the people that we already expect to be cut. He wants to build in the draft, build a team with young players. Wouldn't even be surprised if he trades back.

Respectfully disagree Big Jeep.
Schoen is a modern leader who I don’t think is going to walk into the building cracking skulls and laying down the law. That was Getty.
He’s hitting every talking point of modern leadership 101. Everyone in the building is going to be give a clean slate to demonstrate how they can contribute to the future success of the franchise.
Accountability is only one tool in that toolbox. He will get everyone to buy into a standard of performance AND development. He will give employees the room to show they can get better from who and where they are right now. It won’t be a black and white “you stay and you go” process. If any employee shows a strong work ethic and ability to adapt to his process (which will be more cultural than tactical), they will have a job in Schoen’s franchise. That kind of leadership is what builds employees who are willing to run through a wall to succeed. Fear and accountability don’t create that as consistently.
If players/employees start pushing back on the process, then you’ll see surprise firings and cuts/trades. But they will happen after careful consideration.
This is what we’ve needed. This is the modernization of a franchise. Joe even said it about Parcells. Out of touch with how franchises are run today (but made the point very respectfully).

Who cares if the GM is tough. What the heck does he have to be tough about.
He needs to be smart and able to assemble a group that can judge talent. The HC, Head of Scouting, somebody to control the cap. We need an organizer and someone who can put competent people around him so he can succeed. He needs to be able to remove hurdles for his people that he trusts to do their best.

But “cleaning house” is what some fans have been calling for and they won’t get it with this GM. BUT! If he starts hearing “that’s not how we do things here”, then you’re absolutely right. He seems obsessive about getting everyone pulling in the right direction. Won’t be popular, but I don’t think Schoen’s Giants will want their #1 WR pick to be showing off a conference rivals colors on social media. He’ll give people a chance to get in line. If they don’t, watch out.

It's a rounding out of the roster. And I don't think Schoen gives a damn that Toney wore a Rams mask. Skipping OTA's might be another story.
