I mean that compensatory picks are not assigned based upon individual players leaving ... the system takes into account all of the players who left and all of the players you sign. It's possible then that Saquon leaves and we get no compensatory picks ( if we sign a bunch of FA). I never considered this as being possible for this team the way it's currently constructed but it's true if a team signs a bunch they may offset the chance to receive one in return. The way around that is sign mostly 1 year type deals...or a cheap 2 year deal if needed The issue will be bringing in a decent backup....a good one will want a 2 year deal probably

What a disaster the Barkley pick has been. Possibly the worst pick in franchise history. Nah not close Flowers/ Apple /Kanavis McGee /Dereck Brown/ Cedric Jones many more much less productive then Barkely picked in the top 10 some in the top 5.

Number is too rich unfortunately.....depends if they trade Barkley. Problem is what if they don't ane they keep Booker Or cut Booker and trade Barkley.....that's a very inexperienced RB group Then again you have guys from 2 staffs that prefer smaller modern bowling ball types of backs that are all around types..the only guy that fits that description on paper in Barkley..

Just read on bleacher report that SQB deal isn't realistic at this moment the Giants want a #1 in return, who knows maybe the price goes down if they re having issues reaching their cap cutting goals, right now looks like they want to get top draft capital for their often injured superstar.

These guys need to get it out of their heads the player is not the guy who drafted him, I often think the hatred for Gettlemen turns them on the players he drafted Barkely is a super talented back healthy with the right coaches he could have torched this league probably catching it as much as running it.

Top RBs for last ten SB teams. Other than Lynch and maybe Gore, these are RBs on their rookie contract or older vets that are not demanding a top 5 salary. Getting to a SB with a RB like Barkley in a second contract of $15-18M a year does not seem likely.
1. Cam Akers - Joe Mixon 2. Leonard Fournette - Clyde Edwards-Helaire 3. Raheem Mostert - Darrell Williams 4. Sony Michel - Todd Gurley 5. LeGarrette Blount - James White 6. LeGarrette Blount - Devonta Freeman 7. C.J. Anderson - Jonathan Stewart 8. LeGarrette Blount - Marshawn Lynch 9. Marshawn Lynch - Knowshon Moreno 10. Frank Gore - Ray Rice

I thought Booker is around 2.5 million. Barkley lacks leverage which is why he hasn't been able to be a consistent RB in the NFL.. They are stuck with Barkley unless they feel a 3rd day draft pick is worth doing.

Lets face it he isn't healthy and it doesn't look like he will be for more than a few game stretch.

I will never count player out that it is possible for him to get healthy again still it is in the Giants best interest to find a trade partner. Mike Tomlin and some other coaches said 3 players were signed to corral him at times when healthy that is how I make the claim from reading what coaches and DCs had to do to stop him, I'm not saying the pick was right because you can't put the cart before the horse they needed an OL and did him nor OBJ / Eli and now Jones no favors. This guy by manny was considered the highest graded player in his draft not by me by the people who grade them. Kyle Hamilton will be the same in a position that is devalued but it still doesn't take away from their talent.

I'm not ready to move on from someone of his talent. He's had a rough couple of years, no doubt. When healthy, he is one of the top 3 all-around RB's in the league.

He's in the NFL now so again I think your comments are incorrect.

I hope they will stick with the draft and stop over paying for talent in the 2nd year of the rebuild.

I based them off what NFL DCs and mike Tomlin himself said at times that had 3 and even 4 defenders in his vicinity and at least 3 assigned to him he is a difficult matchup for any defense he was as a rookie with a bad OL and was till he got hurt a in year 2 still accumulated 1400 combined yard and 7TDs we can disagree that is fine everyone has a right to their own opinions I'm just going by what I really d from coaches and what we saw when healthy.

Saw an interesting thought by Dan Schneier on the Barkly front maybe a player for player trade, he mentioned OL or ILB maybe get a player and some cap relief if the contract is less then SQBs. He is basing off of Schoen saying he is intertested in everything player for player trades players for picks picks for picks and so on.

There are several big name RBs that were big parts of superbowl teams after there own team let them go. Also several that stayed their career mostly with 1 team. The salary cap has turned us in to accountants instead of fans but we have to keep in mind once the game starts all that matters is the talent on the field. Anyone think the Rams were upset Indy dumped Faulk to them? Or the Steelers when the Rams moved on from Bettis? Or the Seahawks when the Bills moved on from Marshawn Lynch? Curtis Martin was pretty good as a Jet. Guys like Emmit, Tomlinson, Peyton, Thurman Thomas, Sanders, etc all had multiple contracts with their original teams. I understand the cap concerns. They are valid. I say let the kid play. Then decide if he is too much too keep. I just see KG at 21 mill and think why can we pay guys that do not produce but we want to say bye to one that does produce (assuming SB regains his rookie form).

Well no obviously it is highly unlikely but that is an all time performance but even if it is north of 2000 all purpose it is close to an all-time great level and you may have to give him a big deal at that point. Not an enviable situation with Barkley. There have been 129 occasions of 2000+ all purpose yard seasons. Though very admirable and noteworthy, I would qualify only the top twenty as in the all-time great level. It was pretty clear also that the reference to 3000 rushing yards was intentional hyperbole. No player that ever lived is even remotely close to that number. That Barkley had an excellent 2018 season only highlights the mediocrity and disappointment of the following three years. Would YOU buyout your leased auto after a similar four year record? I sure as hell wouldn't. I bet most of those guys are from the steroid era

I will cross that bridge when it comes. He may or may not have that kind of offer from another team. There is a good chance the offers will be lower. I know I would rather pay a guy that produces than a bunch of guys that do not produce. "I will cross that bridge when it comes" is a poor way to make decisions of this type. I hope that our GM is making decisions based upon all of the anticipated scenarios that could arise if we keep Saquon. One such scenario is that Saquon has a good, injury-free season and is then looking for a big second contract, which almost never turn out well for the team. Let me give you a scenario. Let's say he rushes for 1100 yards and catches 750 yards worth of passes with 8-9 TDs. Can you see a shot for him to get tagged for the next season for 13-14m for that year?

It is above my pay grade. I would say it will depend on a handful of other factors. Did we make the playoffs? Are we hopeful for 2023? What happened with DJ? What is done with his contract? Do we have a Bark replacement in mind? If he looks healthy is there any chance of signing him for 2 years for 19 mill?

Because he WAS injured and you can’t discount that. You’re automatically assuming he can jump in a time machine and be the back he was his rookie year (still sucked at blocking). So you’re saying he’s a top 3 RB this year, based solely on his rookie year?

If were going to give Jones another year to show us what he has with an improved OL wouldn't we want to do the same with Saquon ? I would. Saquon is going into his option year this year. I don't think we would get anything above a 4th rd for him now imo. He's a FA at the end of the year. Do fans just want to get rid of him for a salary dump. Does just cutting him save a lot of money ? How much of the option year money is guaranteed ? I hope he plays out this year for us before we make that decision. Makes no sense to get rid of Bark at this point imo. If we trade him now and he rebounds to a 1500-2000 yard guy I will be so mad. I do not think we are trading him. I basically took that as Joe saying we are open for business. If you want one of our players make an offer. Even if he does rebound, why would they pay him? This is a player who is constantly injured. Barkley has all the talent in the world the Giants aren't in the position to take that much risk. A contender has that luxury, the Giants don't.
