Wow. Argentina stunned by Saudi Arabia. perhaps the craziest upset you'll ever see in world cup play!! That's like Appalacian State beating the Chiefs!!!

The only thing I dont like about soccer (besides the flopping) is the offsides. Its such a difficult call to make.

Tie with England I'll take it 2 ties... 1 goal in 2 games. And its a "good" outcome. Do people really wonder why soccer isn't ever going to take off in the US? Outside of a couple of exciting kicks, that was boring as hell. I watch soccer once every 4 years to be entertained. That didnt quite do it for me.

I watch plenty of it out here (One of my fellow CPA's put me on it 2 years ago) and although there isn't a lot of scoring, there are minimal commercial breaks. The sport is growing and getting better athletes here in the US because of the CTE scares with football. There's also a ton of money to be made playing in Europe.

There are definitely several aspects of the sport I enjoy. No time out/ commercial breaks. TWO 45 minute halves. The non stop action. Things that are bad IMO, not knowing how much extra time you have until the final seconds. I feel like they make it up most the time. Ridiculous. Also, not a fan of the substitution requirements / rules. Taking someone one out and not being able to get him back in. If a player cramps up, he should be allowed to come out, get the treatment, and get back in. Offsides I'm not a big fan of either. I feel like they should remove that rule to open up the scoring. Maybe make it similar to hockey's offsides. And also they should bring in the idea of not being able to kick the back to the other side of the field. Like in the NBA. backcourt/ backfield, turnover. And the worst thing about soccer, you can not end games in ties. Go to a shootout of needed.

This is clearly our most talented team ever and though I understand why a casual fan would not enjoy a 0-0 draw (I prefer higher scoring too) for me it was a great game that showed we are a team to fear. That said, I would not be shocked if we were knocked out tomorrow, we still just lack that clinical goal scorer (other than Weah who is world class). Regarding your comments I fully agree on the extra time, would be better if they just stopped the clock on the scoreboard. Offsides is important, but they should change it to allow you to be onside as long as a part of your body is with the defender, today you are offsides if any part is past the defender. The rest I am fine how it is now. You are highly rewarded for winning and scoring goals in group play. When we get to the knockout you will see Penalties, which is exciting but a terrible way to end the game. I would rather sudden death OT that continues until someone wins. Edit The big rule change I would like to see is much bigger penalties for faking an injury, or dives in the box.

Soccer is arguably the most tiring sport of all sports. "Until someone wins" could last another 90 minutes. Maybe they change the rules and make it 7 on 7 for OT? Yes to faking injury penalties, but, how can you confirm a fake?

Yes to faking injury penalties, but, how can you confirm a fake? Agree, the players would not like it. One option though would be to give another 5 new subs + Goal Keeper if needed. On the faking it front, I have given it a lot of thought. The least controversial action would be to allow judgement in a post review and issue a yellow card. What they would look for is little to no contact with an exaggerated reaction and then sudden recovery. For example, I saw someone dive, grab their leg in the box, then when they realized that both they would not get the call and that their team has the ball they immediately jumped to their feet. That would be a clear yellow.

If not, a flop gets a yellow. But only a flop where they stay down. PLayers can still get knocked down and roll for a second or 2, but to look like you a stretcher and then bounce right back up, that should be a penalty.

That was exciting, but like a 1-0 MLB game going into the ninth inning with Chapman closing type exciting.
So many missed opportunities for both teams.
Glad they hung on, but if they want to do anything next round they need to play much better.
Hwo does the next round work? Same format? Or do or die?
