This is the kind of deal you make every day of the week.. and twice on Sundays. When the Dolphins were at a fire sale and giving away players the Steelers swooped in and grabbed Minkah Fitzpatrick. Three first team all pros later the Steelers continue to add more steel to their curtain.
Baker is still in the prime of his career, and would add an immediate impact player to team up with McKinney. For all we know that second round pick could be a toaster, let’s go after the grand prize.

Idk, you never know who else becomes available and using that 2nd Rounder really handcuffs you imo.
If the Giants had two 2nd Rounders i would feel better. I don't like moving a 2nd Rounder early
Look at the schedule. Pretty brutal and full strength. Add in a few injuries or bad luck and the team could end up with 6 or less wins. That's a very high 2nd Round pick

While i NEVER like splitting with a 2nd rounder, Budda Baker is 1 of the best free safeties in the game, AND he's only 27.
He would be a younger vet to add to the system and could totally play the 1 high centerfield kind of dude. This would allow McK to roam the field as our ultimate chess piece.
I'm not saying no, but maaaaan that would be enticing.... if it's a 3rd and 5th, I'd do it yesterday

I was talking about him a few weeks back. Wants a trade, but they want a 1st rounder.
I heard the Eagles were interested and figured they would flip their second 1st round pick for him.
I would love him on this team but he would cost a lot. Wants a big contract.

For me it comes down to cap management. We still have some big contracts that we need to manage in house. Draft picks aren’t just crap shoots for talent, they’re also cap limit extenders.
But I’m not a tool. A 3rd rd pick for talent like this is an absolute no brainer.
I just keep thinking about Jones/Barkley/McKinney/Dex/Thomas and how does our cap look if we add another contract like this to the mix.
Good teams live off of rookie contract starters and finding contributors in rds 3-7

Anybody going to be better than him whenever it is when we pick in the 2nd rd ? If we could get him for anything less than a 2nd rd pick it should be a no brainer. He is a good player and definitely strengthens the secondary and defense from Day 1 of his arrival.
Now there is money next year but there is also our own to sign plus other FA's. I liked when someone said if Wink wants him we could make it happen.
Of course who doesn't want good players on your team. A 2nd rd player should be a starter for our team and cheaper. Like I said anything less than a 2nd rd I think I find a way to make it work.
I could be happy either way.

Seems like it's very rare for the Safety position to be picked in the very early rounds, unlike a standout CB - so how are the Cards looking for a second or even first rounder here? I know that Safety from the Jets (Adams) commanded high draft pick when he got traded, but he really stood out at that time as a game changer. |
