Rangers may hold on but there is no reason for this game to be this close. We might get past the Caps. Against a better team we will be toast.

Have to put that team away imo

Wasn't happy with the start of the game or how we played the 3rd. Best part about the 3rd period was the hit Panarin put on Oshie... And despite the refs being terrible again this game, missing numerous obvious penalties against us I was pleasantly surprised with the reversal on that hit. Way too casual this game. I had a feeling Washington would play desperate hockey and we handled it but not as well as we could have. A win is a win though. 2 down 14 to go. Like I've said, need to wrap this series up in 5 or at most 6 games. Friday night I expect the same response from Washington, hopefully we play more like the 1st game.

Am I the only one that saw Panarin get cross checked and slashed by Oshie and Ovechkin without any calls repeatedly? He also took a blatent high stick to the face that went uncalled. Glad we got the win, it was way to close at the end there. To Ovidius's point, we need to play with gusto on Friday, Washington will be playing with desperation...

4 nights in a row at MSG, 4 wins in a row by our NY teams. Gotta love it.

I heard Francesca played golf recently with some of his hockey buddies who told him Washington didn’t belong in the playoffs and that the Rangers would walk right through them. That’s a true story. He’s actually sank that low.

Okay so here we go...
I don't usually make pre-game posts. I usually wait until after the game but need to convey a few things that are screaming in my mind.
Anyway, tonight's game we can be sure of a few things.
First, Washington is going to throw everything they have at us. They are going to play with desperation, intensity, physicality, cheap shots, etc. You name it and they will most likely try it. They don't want to be down 3-0 to us. I would expect nothing less.
Second, we're playing at their home. I expect our team will be well represented there but still, we are away from MSG and that always, generally, favors the opponent. That will add more momentum, energy, whatever you want to call it to Washington.
Lastly, not literally, but for all intents and purposes, we can wrap the series up tonight.
Now we may lose tonight. It could happen. Easily.
However, my issue has always been or at least since the start of the modern era of the NHL, that our Blueshirts lack a killer instinct. Absolute inability to step on opponents' throats when the opportunity was there. We were witness to it somewhat in game 2, notably the start of the game and the whole 3rd period.
We all saw it happen last season in the playoffs. An inferior team rolls in with some forgettable AHL goalie in game 3 and suddenly we forgot how to do anything. All the excuses started rolling out... It's a long series, get'em next game, blah blah... It made me want to punch something. No excuse or reasoning was valid for lazy, casual play in a playoff game in my opinion.
What I hope to see is us match the desperation, energy, intensity, etc. that we are going to face. Have that killer instinct. Fight for every second of every shift. This is where I'm hoping Laviolette has changed the mental makeup of this team from the way they were under Gallant last season and most if not all previous recent seasons.
IF we lose playing like that, the caps eke out a win against us or an OT win, you know what? It'll suck but I'll be alright with a loss like that because we all know that's hockey.
What I can't stand, what has driven me crazy for seasons now, and what I'm fearful about tonight is we play half-assed, lazy, timid, soft hockey and we wilt in a big moment when we should be fighting as hard as we can to end the series. Losing the game something like 5-3 or 6-3 or the like.
So that's it. I know that was a long post, thanks for reading. I'll be drinking tonight. Let's Go Rangers!!

Rempe has really helped the team attitude and toughness, even if he doesn't play a lot of minutes. I think his grit has rubbed off on some of the other players. I am also hopeful/expecting a full heart effort from us tonight. LGR!!!!!

Once I saw 2 other series go 3-0 in the East, I thought the NHL might influence the Ranger/Caps series to go more games. Glad I was wrong so far.

Good win. We got called for some BS penalties. I thought this was the playoffs. They have got to stop calling Rempe for penalties on clean hits. Definitely got some bad calls. That hit by Rempe was a reputation penalty. Intermission group of guys, including Gretzky, all thought the hit was clean. The group of refs we have for this series once again show how bad they are. Win is a win. Haven't been crazy about our 3rd periods in the playoffs so far but we're winning and that is the important part. Igor saved the game with his play in the 3rd after the soft goal he let in. I was happy to see us play like we did for the first and most of the second. Let's finish them off tomorrow. 3 down 13 to go.

Not so sure the argument couldn't be made that they did exactly that with I'd say easily half of the 6 penalties called against us were bad to extremely bad calls. They may have tried to but it backfired when we got a shorthanded goal and our PK is one of the best.

Caps are a bad enough team they couldn’t even comply with the gifts.

I was skeptical but teams have to play it wise against us. Rempe will erase players from your playoff roster. And he’s learning to do it legally. Lavy wouldn’t say it but he knows that 2 of the penalties he took were flat wrong and a 3rd one was soft as hell. At some point they have to stop penalizing him for being Rempe. The truth last night was the guy gave him a penalty for blowing that dude the F up, realized it was clean, and had to classify it as something. I almost wish they had called it charging and reviewed it for being a major. Because at that point they’d have had no choice but to fully rescind it.

Tonight should be fun, as with Thursday, Washington will be throwing everything at us. We need to come out of the gate with fire and passion.

Moving on. 4 down 12 to go.
This was how I wanted the first series to go, and we did it.
Third period was our best period. Seemed like we were wanting to win it at MSG with how we were playing the first two periods. That game tying goal from Washington, the only goal in the second, was a terrible defensive effort. Igor being Igor helped us weather the push and we won it with much better play in the 3rd. Except for that last power play. I was WTF if you're not going to try to score have another defenseman out there with Fox.
Now we get ready for Round 2. When we get there and whoever we play, we need to play better than we did at times during this first series. But I'm liking everything I'm seeing for the most part.
Let's Go Rangers!!

Game 1 Sunday. Time unannounced as of now. Should know by mid afternoon.
There’s some kind of 5 boro bike race on Sunday tying up traffic so I hope the game is in the evening.
