This is an underrated signing IMO. McFadden was a work horse but a big liability in coverage. Last year he got here August 24th, so it'll be really nice to see what he can do being in the system from the start of camp this year. It should at least be a good competition between him and McFadden to see who plays next to Okereke.

Outside of the 2 plays he made all year (INT vs Washington, FF vs the Eagles) I mostly forgot he was on the roster for 17 weeks.
I hate to rain on this parade, Simmons is not a good player. He won't suddenly become one in year 5.

I guess he's a good back up signing but I hope they develop a player who is better then Simmons has been.

The fascination of signing former high picks is prevalent throughout the NFL (and fans love it). "Hey, another team thought he was worth a high pick, he must be good. Our team can totally get more out of him then they did!" It's only worth it because the cost is so low, but the expectations do not adjust properly.

I don't get why anyone would still be excited about Simmons after turning in his worst season as a pro. And it's not as if he were stuck behind a lineup of talented payers in front of him.

Not as a top 10 draft pick (that ship has sailed, obviously the guy is not going to reach close to those heights), but as a speed focused, coverage linebacker aka a specialist (which is exactly what his salary would indicate he's being viewed as), he's a good player and he's a better fit in this scheme. It's all relative. Nothing wrong with signing a specialist player that's good at his specialty.

I'm not optimistic about what he adds on downs, but throw him in the mix and see how it shakes out in camp.
