Tristan Wrifs, Iowa, MORE of an RT in the long term ''Phenomenal talent. He's got grace and nimble feet despite his looming stature -- making him a prototypical NFL offensive tackle prospect. He's got a great presence about him in both pass sets and run blocking, very effective in physically dominating the opposition regardless of what direction he's tasked with going. Impressive reach, incredible strength and a dynamic lower half, which allows him to continue to apply force to bodies and sustain momentum as he's working in space. His hip hinge is clean in his pass sets -- allowing for even cadenced steps and calm, controlled effort to square up rushers on the edge.
Possibly the freakiest athlete in college football. Size, strength, explosiveness combination is outstanding. Dominates the weight room and it shows on the field with his functional movements and powerful flashes. Stout, sturdy in his lower-half. Quickly works to replace his hands inside and controls blocks when he gets underneath the rusher. Easily can get out in space due to his explosiveness. Formidable reach blocks because of quickness out of his two and three point stance. Excellent lateral movements when necessary in pass protection. Naturally withstands bull rushes or hand swipes from defensive lineman. Generally able to recover when a defensive lineman gains an advantage, making him a tough tackle to beat for a sack.
Highly impressive in terms of mobility, body control, posture and functional strength. Carries 320 pounds extremely well across his 6-foot-5 frame. His anchor in pass pro won’t be compromised very often - his ability to leverage his hips, bow his back and maintain the width of the pocket against power rushers is outstanding. Keeps his hands held high in his stance, primed are ready to strike which leads to efficient punches. There are some technical issues but he absolutely has the foot speed to keep pace up the arc and set roadblocks against speed rushers. Explosive mover when climbing to the second level and working out in space. Grip strength is sensational and it’s game over for his opposition when the clamps are set. Zero concerns about his ability to roll his hips into contact from a three-point stance. Power can be devastating.''Why a RT? Seems super-athletic Players that are very right handed tend to have issues doing things that someone who thinks left handed or ambidextrous can. He hasn't had the best of years this year apparently because he had to play LT because Aldric Jackson had an injury. Credit to players that know their limitations and will volunteer info to coaches even early in their playing careers even in HS so that their ability is maximized. He is going to be a great RT whenever he comes out(i think he wants to stay for his senior year) And being athletic in this era where edge rushers get moved around...Kahlil Mack and Von Miller 75% of the time line up over the RT these days to try to exploit teams that try to hide a not so good slow tackle on the right side. Wirfs would be the only other tackle I consider this year after Thomas (if we don't buy a long term RT in free agency)

Very deep class of linemen that while not blue chippers are starting types if given a little seasoning/coaching (preferably by someone other than Hal Hunter), A very deep C class that would be instant improvements over what we have. Halapio is a RFA so I would bring him back as a 1 year stop gap and force a draft pick to beat out in camp.. I think Pulley looked better at the end of last year, than Pio has this one. I understand he's hurt, and we'll see Pulley this week, so one question may be answered Neither Pio or Pulley really look great. Id love to keep them as depth players on the inside, but i want more from my starters

Andrew Thomas is the name we need. Start at RT next year and the LT in 2021 after Solder is out. DJ would have his LT for years to go. At 4?

Been watching some Saahdiq Charles on some video this week and this kid has some serious NFL skills...hard to concentrate on him when watching Burrow throw those magnets lol, but he mirrors well and has very quick feet. He's also able to block two QB seekers at one time, thus the ability to release a guard....allowing us to save some cap.

Best O line in the country Interestingly without a top OT prospect (the epitome of how modern football has evolved, get the interior dominant so the qb can step up,they can run RPO A gaps..this case Helaire) This is a sneaky good guard class that can be harvested day 3 or by teams with decent outside guys already I know I've been picking a guard if possible in my mocks to be proactive in replacing Zeitler then wait till there is a hole

I still like Thomas a lot. He is a true LT. With all the other OLmen shooting up the board now, we might be able to trade back and still get him though.

You know that meme on fb where the guy is looking back at another girl while his girlfriend is like WTF? Thomas is the girlfriend and I feel Wills and Becton are the new girl he is looking back at.. Nothing wrong with the other 2 I just feel Thomas hasn't done anything to warrant slipping like this He is legit a top 5 prospect

Measurements and prospect exhaustion. Sometimes the analysts and talking heads just like talking about new guys for freshness in the offseason. Thomas is still a beast. Ive watched him play quite a bit last year. He shut down nearly everyone. Then again, Baker shut down EVERYONE in college too. I think Bakers issue was more mental though and scheme.

Baker was the only corner to shut down Jeudy He also contained Brown and Lamb in the Rose Bowl(remember Oklahoma was carving up Georgia with the TE and ybe hybrid guy Flowers for the most part and Mayfield was targeting the reciever not covered by Baker) He is a press corner The only guy that had some success against Thomas was Chaisson..who I've been all over for wanting as it is and probably tells me Chaisson is a legit stud)

I really like him. He has some really high upside. Ideally, we trade back with Raiders and take their 2 1st rounders and a 3rd. Get Thomas and Chaisson with those 2 first rounders.

I'd do kart wheels if this somehow played out.

the only part of taking an O tackle with our first pick is that there is some much serious talent in this draft that we will have to pass on to get an OT, I think it makes more sense to get a big time play maker in the draft and get O line help in FA, even though I hate free agency...
