Guess Ill be the only party pooper who'll say we overpaid for the guy, concentrated our risk on one arm, and mortgaged the future -- i really liked the way they were developing staff from within and picking up guys who were considered "damaged goods" in some way, making them better, and getting their return on investment that way.
But so be it, now that he's here ... LET'S GO!!!

But so be it, now that he's here ... LET'S GO!!! Everyone is overpaid in FA, especially a top front line dominant SP like Cole. Well worth it. He wont be great the entire contract. I compare it to CCs. And his was worth it to me and he only won 1 ring. CC was older though. We weren't getting Strasburg and we weren't getting MadBum. Stanton is the contract that is very concerning.

Now we can ask the question: Who's the best starting pitcher in New York?? Well we know who the most expensive one is. Yes we do, but the answer to my question is still up for debate.

He'll have to cut that hair and shave that face so he can look like a Soviet hockey player...like the rest of the team. As Napoleon once said...... Gross!!!!

Joel Sherman @joelsherman1 5m #Yankees were described as far down the line on a new contract with Brett Gardner. It would be a surprise if it doesn’t get done. #Reunion

So, they snuck this rule past everyone.... Major League Baseball managers don’t like proposed pitching rule for 2020 season The new MLB three-batter minimum rule will require pitchers to face at least three hitters or pitch to the end of a half-inning before a pitching change can be made. MLB officials are hoping the change will decrease the average time per game. The proposed rule is slated to take effect next season. www.cnbc.com/2019/12/10/major-league-baseball-managers-dont-like-new-pitching-rule-for-2020.html-- Ive been pushing for this for a while now. Glad it is finally becoming a rule. The left handed specialists are now going to disappear. It will be interesting to see how this works out for roster management.

He doesn't hit for average and he doesn't steal bases. Nowadays, he is a 4th outfielder at best. So they now have 22.5 million on a pair of 4th outfielders. I disagree with both deals.

He is a Yankee, I get it. Great clubhouse guy. But so was Didi. $12.5M is just stupid. The Mets just got Michael Wacha and Rick Pocello for $13m combined.

I disagree with both deals. The Hicks deal was a good deal. He happened to get hurt. Injuries happen and he will be back. Disagree that it was a good deal. Was it less expensive? Sure. 7 years $70m = $10m a year. Was it too long? Yes. Is Hicks always hurt? Yes. So you ahve to add the guys added to replace Hicks when he is hurt along with Hicks contract, which is Gardner this year at $12.5m. So Hicks first year of his 7 years deal costs us $22.5m

For everyone saying the Owners dont "HEar" the fans (we were talking about Mara hearing the Giants fans but still...)
"@lukebecker_YN26: Listening to Bob Klapisch on @short_porch and it’s a great listen. He said that the Yankees were always going to pursue Cole. However, he believes the pursuit intensified when Hal saw a drop in ticket sales and how impatient and angry the fans were becoming."
The fans have all the power, because the fans are what brings the money to give the owners the power.

I don't get the salary. God bless Gardy for getting from the Yanks, but to me, a 4 - 5M deal would have been completely fair. 12.5 is way more than necessary. I guess they were bidding against themselves again (and I like Gardy, with all his team history and all)

The Yankees are top shelf on this kind of thing; I was impressed when they did it with Jeter as well. I'm a bit surprised that they did it twice with Gardner but I do think it's cool that they don't nickel and dime their long term players.
