Well it's taken 35 years but it looks as though were a serious contender for the Cup. Anybody else notice how big this team seems ? Hope they get this hot again at playoff time. This team is really looking good.

Today's 6-5 overtime shootout loss was the first time the Islanders lost under Barry Trotz when scoring four goals.

Nice turn around after last night's debacle at MSG.. NYI 8 DET 2 Hopefully they blew their wad last night, Rangers could really use a point Thursday night. Got a feeling y’all will see the kid Shorsterkin in net. Should be interesting. Panarin making a run at MVP. Not a stretch already to say he is the best Ranger since Messier.

Finally!!!! Isles call up Kieffer Bellows to boost scoring For those who haven’t seen Kieffer Bellows play hockey, here’s the scouting report — in his own words: “I’d say I’m a power forward. I’m physical. I like to shoot the puck. I get in the dirty areas. And I just have a knack for finding the net.” Just what the Islanders need. They called up their 2016 first-round pick Monday for the first time. Bellows was Bridgeport’s top goal and point producer. He scored 15 goals in his last 26 games and 16 total to go with eight assists, good for 24 points in 45 games. He immediately practiced in East Meadow as the third-line left wing. www.newsday.com/sports/hockey/islanders/kieffer-bellows-isles-1.41388444

Devils trade captain Andy Greene to New York Islanders NEWARK, N.J. (AP) — The New Jersey Devils are turning toward youth by trading captain and defenseman Andy Greene to the New York Islanders. New Jersey acquired prospect defenseman David Quenneville and the Islanders' second-round pick in the 2021 draft in the deal on Sunday — eight days before the NHL's trade deadline. The 37-year-old Greene is in the final year of a five-year, $25 million contract, and was the Devils longest-serving active player. He spent 14 seasons with New Jersey after being signed as an undrafted free agent out of Miami (Ohio) University in 2006. Greene became a fan favorite in New Jersey for his steady play and shot-blocking ability. He has 49 goals, and 197 assists for 246 points in 932 games, which rank seventh most on the Devils career list. www.usatoday.com/story/sports/nhl/2020/02/16/devils-trade-captain-andy-greene-to-new-york-islanders/111329474/

New York Islanders will play all home games in 2020-21 season at Nassau Coliseum The Isles will be at their true home for all of next season The New York Islanders are about to be full-time residents of Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum again. This is according to a story from Newsday's Randi F. Marshall, who reports that New York Governor Andrew Cuomo will be at the Islanders game Saturday to announce that not only will the team be playing any postseason games in the Uniondale, N.Y., arena, they'll also be playing all of their home games for the 2020-21 season there. Of course, this move will just be a temporary one as next year's NHL season is supposed to be the last for the Islanders before they move to a new arena at Belmont Park in Elmont, N.Y. www.cbssports.com/nhl/news/new-york-islanders-will-play-all-home-games-in-2020-21-season-at-nassau-coliseum/

Capitals vs. Islanders playoff preview Washington's top scorers key against tight New York defense in first round No. 3 Washington Capitals vs. No. 6 New York Islanders Capitals: 1-1-1 in round-robin; 41-20-8, .652 points percentage in regular season Islanders: 3-1 to win qualifier series against Florida Panthers; 35-23-10, .588 points percentage in regular season Season series: WSH 2-2-0; NYI 2-2-0 Game 1 is Wednesday (3 p.m. ET; NBCSN, SN, TVAS) While the showdown between Barry Trotz, the New York Islanders coach, and his former team, the Washington Capitals, will be one of the main storylines, everything about this series should be interesting. Todd Reirden, who took over after Trotz joined the Islanders two weeks after the Capitals won the 2018 Stanley Cup, learned much while an assistant with Trotz in Washington. The Capitals and the Islanders each play a defensively responsible game that keeps opponents from freely generating offense. "Both teams are well equipped to go at each other," said Trotz, who coached the Capitals from 2014-18. "But I think both teams, that group has a lot of pedigree. They've got a lot of star power and they've won a championship. "They're well-equipped in a lot of areas, so the biggest challenge is to play them even and play them hard, and they'll do the same because I know a lot about that team." www.nhl.com/news/new-york-islanders-washington-capitals-playoff-series-preview/c-318363180
