Apparently he had the same disease as Robin Willams.
So sad, 75 is too young for someone that was such a big part of my childhood.
My older brother used to inform me - apropos of nothing apparently, as I was unlikely to grow up to be a big league scout - that Seaver was what you wanted in a pitcher. Big ass, big thighs. He said Seaver generated all his power from there, and that's really what to look for in a pitcher, a solid power foundation.
I nodded and filed it away. I'm sharing it now because I haven't had the chance in forty years.

My childhood idol as well...my late dad would take me and my friends to old Shea every time Seaver was pitching...very sad but expected news...part of my childhood gone and now flooding up all the great times I had with my sports junkie dad. Pete Rose said a blind man would know Tom Seaver was warming up...a more accurate power pitcher I have not seen. A tear to start my day...RIP franchise ...1969 seems like yesterday

Tom Terrific is my all time favorite non-Yankee. I was living in Boston in '85 when the Saux signed him, was in Fenway Park for his debut. It's the only Red Sox game in my life that I rooted for them. RIP!!

Tom does everything well. He’s the kind of man you’d want your kids to grow up to be like. Tom’s a studious player, devoted to his profession, a loyal cat, trustworthy – everything a Boy Scout’s supposed to be. In fact, we call him ‘Boy Scout.
- Cleon Jones Tom Terrific!

The fact that he died is "interesting?" I think he’s talking about last nights game. It will only be interesting if they pull their heads from their collective asses for a lot more than a couple games. Nice to get the W on the day, considering the passing of possibly the ultimate Mets legend.

The fact that he died is "interesting?" I think he’s talking about last nights game. This And yeah...Another part of my childhood gone ... I always wondered Seaver was still a decent enough pitcher in 84-85(did he play in 86?) Now I forget the circumstances why he ended up with the White Sox but it would have been awesome to get number 300 with us and with a team that was really good again..

To think, that from the late 60s till mid/late 70s, this team coulda had a 1-2-3-4 rotation of Tom Seaver-Nolan Ryan-Jerry Koosman-Jon Matlack. Only the Mets can trade away 2 of the best pitchers in MLB history for a bunch of no name players. Seaver should have won his 300th game as a Met & pitched his 1st no-hitter as a Met.
But, that's what makes the Mets, the Mets.

So a greedy hedge dude who will look to squeeze every penny out of this team is supposed to turn this thing around? Lol. Look for less spending on players, and jacked up ticket and concession prices.

Yes. I agree that ticket prices and concession prices will go up. Not only for inflationary reasons but if or when the team starts winning. I disagree on player spending. I think he'll spend and I would not be surprised if it's high, but not the highest in baseball. He might really just be a nerdy, sabermteric type fan with wads of cash. I think he understands you need to spend money to make money. He also probably has a good grasp on franchise valuations.

I disagree... He will be a George Steinbrenner on steroids. Realmuto will be his first splash in the wintertime. You heard it here first.

Time will tell of course but I think he's looking at and saying covid won't last forever, I can get this team now in a huge market at discount, when it recovers I'll be able to milk this thing for more cash because the fan base is too large and deep to go away, especially if I lock them up with season tickets. Given that guys past I don't see any reason to think he approaches business in any other way. He's not going to blow $1 billion of his own money out of being an altruist fan

I don't think he's getting the team at any kind material discount at all. And I agree there's no altruism here. I do not think he would buy the team if he didn't think it wild be an accretive investment.

Understand that if this goes through the Net Worth of the Mets owner is higher than the sum of the next top 3 owners. Think Ballmer buying the Clips, but with no real care about the luxury tax. A lifetime Mets fan. If they shoot this down it would be so Mets though.

Ok, there's a lot of strange bball stuff these days. But the Mets braves game tonight is on fox, and they are literally interviewing a braves outfielder on the field DURING the inning?

Highly doubtful. If I'm Cashman why would I leave the Yankees for the Mets? It can't be money.

What a laughingstock, even in an abbreviated 60 game season with like 16 teams eligible for the playoffs, they still can't make it! Same ol Mets.
