Can't read through everything at work, but did we really take a 14.5M cap hit for this?? I've also seen we're taking an $11M hit. I've also seen we're taking a $3.5M hit.
If we took a hit, I really, really hope it's only $3.5M.....I'm sick of sticking up for DG and don't know if I can do it if we lose $14.5M for not waiting a few more weeks to release him.
Appreciate any insight!

So...putting aside my, or anyone's opinion about Janoris Jenkins as a player or otherwise.........I think a guy losing his job because he said something that was "un-PC" , suggests a world gone crazy Like it or not....admit it or not.......Every one of us has used that word in conversation. This is madness as far as I'm concerned. I don't really think it was because of that, but rather an excuse. he wasnt going to be retained anyway and had mouthed off about coaches before.

This is a case of a veteran player wanting out of an organization to go to a contender, and the team acquiescing to the request.
I don't think the team had much intention on cutting him during this season, or even really this offseason.
Sometimes when it comes to actual people, it doesn't line up with what makes sense on paper.

They were looking for an excuse to be done with him and he gave them a small one. A playoff bound team probably wouldn't even comment on the situation, let alone release a player.... The Giants are playing for the 2020 draft right now...

Was thinking the exact same thing...no way he was released solely due to the Tweet. I think it was a strategic move by the organization. They don't want to make it appear like the locker room is lost..they want to make it appear like they are rebuilding a culture that has turned toxic with this release. The way this has unfolded makes me feel like Shurmur will be back next year.

Just think......just before Halloween there were those arguing for Jack Rabbit to remain a Giant for 2020 and thought the idea of trading or cutting him as silly, but now.......everyone wants him gone. Don't rush things, We're about to have the same conversation about Engram. Remember how the Giants didn't trade him at the decline and now likely won't re-sign him when his rookie deal expires since he can't stay on the field? I'll start: we should have tried him for anything we could get we should keep him because he's one of the to TEs in the league

Maybe the Giants have all the jockstraps they need. If a team would trade for Eli apple they would surely trade something for JJ . also knowing that wouldnt have any cap penalty if he didnt work out for them. I like gettlemans picks but he has done some head scratching moves like letting collins go without anything in return. signing odell than cutting him as to take a 20mil hit. Sure, because their contracts and situations are nearly identical.

So we will pay $2.4M for the next four weeks even though he is not here. His dead cap hit in 2020 is $3.5M.

HOT TAKES!!!! no but for real what I really take from that bit is the "culture" Gettleman talked about when he first arrived, and made all those moves... it doesn't actually exist in this locker room.

Lol! I fat shamed no one. I welcome anyone & everyone to go read every post I said about him & tell me where exactly in any of my comments did I "fat shame" him. It's comical that the US is one of the most obese countries in the world, but according to this guy, it's ALL related to "thyroid" issues. It possibly couldn't be due to eating like a pig everyday while being a non exerciser. Surely, you cannot gain hundreds of lbs of fat by just being lethargic & consuming 4000-5000 calories of high fat, high sugar meals every day. No, no, no, it's the damn Thyroid gland dammit. If that's what you wanna call "fat shaming", then guilty as charged! BTW, my DIs called me way worse names on a daily basis for 12 weeks in PI, so anything you could wanna call me is kiddy league compared to what the pros threw at me. I won't wither & crawl into a corner & cry to the mods for being called...gasp..."offensive" names. What's worse ... being fat or going on message boards pretending to be a marine? It's actually worse to be you fatbody & your homey that agrees with your every word like it's gospel. 2 fat internet keyboard warriors taking smack about a veteran who served but w/o an iota of proof, wanna say I didn't. It's alright that youse (Brooklyn slang) didn't have the cojones to serve this country & leave mommy's basement for 4 or more yrs, someone's gotta stay home with the women & children. Any other poster here who served, especially in the suck, knows I'm the real deal. When it comes to your little petty "Fake Marine or Gomer" comments, it's comical due to the fact that in person, face to face, you wouldn't call out anyone's service, be it my own or anyone else's You can pull the tough guy, "yeah I would" card all ya want, ya know better, plus you know what you would get if ya did. BTW, I'm waiting on the link that has scientific proof that ALL obesity in this country is caused by "thyroid" issues. I'm also still waiting for anyone to look up the "fat shaming" comments I supposedly said about Lorenzen. Carry on maggots!
