DG has to know his job is safe for at least 2 years unless he pulls a McAdoo. So why not bite the bullet and cut Stewart; it was a mistake.

I’m not too concerned about Stewart. He’s just a small piece to the bigger puzzle. Barkley is and will be the main horse. Stewart or whomever were to replace him is barely a factor. He’s a #3 RB not a #2 WR or anything. He can get the bulk of the carries when the game is out of reach.

As long as the pecking order starts with Saquon/Gallman, I'm not so concerned. Stewart should get very few carries after those two once real games start.

that's Shurmur 1st indication that he is somewhat perplexed. How can he think Stewart is still of value? After watching Stewart even in Carolina the last couple of years anyone can see hes done. The only contribution he can make is his veteran knowledge.
After that statement by Shurmur, don't be surprised if Stewart is here after final cuts.

I don't see why he's immune to the "wait and see" leash we want to extend to other guys who have seemingly underperformed this preseason. There's a slight chance that Pat Shurmur knows a little more than a bunch of armchair QB's. My bad, someone has to counterpoint around here.

And that's exactly what I said in the first place. I don't disagree that he's looked poor so far, but that doesn't mean he a wasted signing and garbage either. If he's a cut down or looks poor in the regular season I'll be the first to call it what it is. Shurmur claims faith in Stewart's abilities, that means something to me. If you want to disregard or scoff at that it's your prerogative. |
