Helicopter flying in fog. That's how Stevie Ray Vaughan died by flying into a mountainside. Tragic. Billy Graham (rock promoter, not tv evangelist) as well.

What depressing news especially knowing children are involved.
My heat goes out to the victims and their families.
Its depressing to know Kobe's youngest child wont really have memories of him or her sister.
Just terrible. Life is precious and we all end up stressing petty stuff.
Hold your loved ones and dont take them or your life for granted.

Its just so ironic that Lebron passed him last night in points over his career. Tragedies like this are just awful for the star player, but imagine what its like for the family of the other 4 people who wont get the recognition they deserve. RIP to all involved. Well said. What a horrible tragedy this is for all the families involved.

Kobe | By Derek Jeter All I ever needed to know about Kobe Bryant was this: that throughout our friendship, the most meaningful conversations we had — they were always about family. Put aside one of the all-time great basketball careers for a second. Put aside his famous work ethic, the Mamba mentality, that incredible will to win. I’ll let everyone else tackle that. But when I think of Kobe, I really just end up thinking about those special few personal conversations that we were lucky enough to share together, each time one of us had a new baby daughter. I end up thinking about how, here was this guy who was beyond gifted as an athlete, who was obsessed with being a champion, who was known as an absolute assassin with a ball in his hands. And in the moments I got to spend with him? He didn’t really talk about any of that. He cared much more about being a husband to Vanessa and a dad to his girls. He loved his family — he was his family. That’s what was important. And that’s the Kobe I’ll remember. www.theplayerstribune.com/en-us/articles/derek-jeter-kobe-bryant-tribute

I am completely shocked and saddened and hard to gather myself mannnn. I am just as much a big time Laker fan as I am a Giant and became a fan of both around 85 @ age 10. I live in SC and have only been to LAX once flying to korea and never been to NY but I am absolutely die hard Laker/Giants. Kobe grew on me and to be honest that's why I had a hard time at first with the Odell thing because of the mentality and the killer instinct both possess. I just can't put into words how saddened I am and just have to try and get over it day by day but this is going to be hard ladies and gentlemen. RIP to Kobe and GiGi and the rest of all of those who lost their lives and their families

What do you guys feel was the largest nost impactful sports celebrity death that shook your core? Even though his career was over already, this was pretty crazy.
Munson? Clemente? Roy Halladay? Jose Fernandez? Yordano Ventura?
Dale Earnhardt?
Junior Seau? Pat Tillman? Sean Taylor?
Len Bias? Fab Melo? Malik Sealy?
This Kobe Bryamt death to me is similar to Roy Halladays. Post career. Both HOFers. Family men.
The Jose Fernandez one hurt me a lot too. He was a budding superstar taken before he came through. Sean Taylor was another one really tough.

The Kobe Bryant one IMO is the most impactful because of the worldwide iconic status that he has. You have people in Timbuktu wearing his jersey. All of them are very tragic. All of them have left us way too soon.

I can’t think of any equivalent to this. I would guess that Clemente is probably the closest in terms of national impact. I am still shocked and continually moved by the outpouring of love in the hours that have passed.

Thurman Munson’s widow heartbroken for Vanessa Bryant: ‘I wish I could hug her’ In the 40 years since Diana Munson lost her husband, Thurman, in a plane crash, she’s had countless conversations with fans who tell her where they were when the accident happened and she never stops them. Rarely, though, does what happened on Aug. 2, 1979, come into focus as much as it did Sunday, when Diana and the world learned that Kobe Bryant had been killed — along with his daughter Gianna and seven others — in a helicopter crash outside of Los Angeles. “[Sunday] opened up a lot of wounds for me,’’ Diana said by phone Monday. “It brought back that day very clearly. And it brought back a lot of feelings. Feelings I’ve tried to suppress for years. But it’s always there.” nypost.com/2020/01/27/thurman-munsons-widow-heartbroken-for-vanessa-bryant-i-wish-i-could-hug-her/

She thought that was a great idea, and will try to make it happen. She was very touching in her commentary.

I am am both a diehard NYG fan and Laker fan. The Kobe loss is devastating. He inspired so many people for so many years. People even in China and the Phillipines are setting up memorials for Kobe. His impact can be felt throughout Europe too. This is one if not the most shocking sports related event in sports history. The internet and media outlets played a huge part in Kobes impact on people. The one thing that plays a big part in this tragedy is surrounding Gigi his daughter. She was a star in the making. Her destiny was to play at Uconn and onto the WNBA. She was special. TMAC said it best. She was going to carry the KB torch and will not be able to do that. My heart goes out to his other daughters his wife and the other deceased including last years National Baseball JUCO coach of the year Coach Alto and his family. Very Sad Times. God Bless all of you brothers and sisters and your families.

So so sad. I am very much just as much or probably equally a Laker as I am a Giant. I live in SC and only have been to LAX on the way to Korea and never been to NY. I became a Giant and Laker at age 10 in 1985. I watched the most Laker games during the Kobe era and loved everything about the guy. The most important to me was that " IT" factor. He like Odell had/has it and it's something I feel as long as we had that kind of player around, it would propel us to greater things. I'm just sick to my stomach and it's just a sad sad time. I had a good 5 year window of just FEEL GREAT when the Lakers won the chip with Kobe without Shaq. They went to 3 straight but lost the first to Boston. They then beat Orlando i believe it was the next year then Boston in year 3 for a repeat. I just want to say RIP and I am sadly going to miss you Kobe. RIP to you and your beautiful precious daughter and to all the 7 others and prayers to all the families Oh forgot to mention so the Lakers had that 3 year stretch then the Giants beat the Pats the next year. Man ole man was I on cloud 9
