Amukamara was cut today, we desperately need CB help. He would be a good vet for the young CBs to learn from. Still can hold down CB2 duties, at a fraction of what other FAs will make.

I think this is a great idea. In retrospect it probably would have been best to retain players such as Prince and Linval Joseph. Not only were they good, well Joseph is great now, but they would have retained that super bowl winning Giants culture on the defense and provided leadership by example.

I liked him a lot, but we are moving in a new direction. I'm not as worried about this secondary as most other people are.

Would have been great to retain him regardless. At the time they really weren't deep at DT either. When they let Cofield go it worked out and thus Reese tried it again. They ended up having Markus Kuhn as a starter and main rotational piece after he left, which still annoys me just thinking about it.

And an lb that can cover in the middle. People that didn't really watch the Giants say "there pass D sucked, must add DBs". People that actually watched them play make comments like you about our LBs because that was the worst part of our coverage. Our DBs eventually started covering people but our LBs have been poor in coverage for years. I'd be very happy with Simmons (or Murray) in the draft but would prefer to sign Littleton or Schobert before we get to the draft. We can still draft Simmons or another coverage LB after that, but no sense in hoping for something on draft day.
Our scheme, from what I see with Graham, will absolutely help these guys. Baker was one of the best CBs in the league for stretches during the last half of the year. The guy has all the skills to be a complete lock down CB if we play to his strengths. Love and Peppers should make a great combo at S and really complement each others style. Ballentine is better on the outside than the slot so we will see what happens there with him and Beal.

I believe after the draft and with the new coaching staff we are gonna see the secondary on the same page. Prince was good when he played but that ship has sailed and he was let go for a good reason,, Chicago didn't like his value anymore. He's 30 yrs old and its time to move on into a different direction. I agree the guys we have with a another draft should be fine.

Good cover corner . Can't stay on the field. He averages 3 missed games a season.

I do think that there is some real potential there. However, it really doesn't matter who they have or add in the secondary until they get at least an average pass rush. The lack of a pass rush is and has been arguably the biggest issue with the Giants for several years now. It just seems like they always have either a few JAGS or some players that never reach the hype that our fans give them. If the pass rush gets remotely squared away, you will see this entire defense improve.

The younger guys that played a lot like Baker got better as the year went on Love proved worthy of a shot at safety and slot corner the others need to be evaluated further they all got on the field late and Ballentine is an outside guy they stuck in the slot. I think there is a good chance for them to be respectable and play better as they grow in their second years. But cover and linebacker has been a dark hole in our defense for many years like OL it is time to end the BS if they don't get Simmons in here or Littleton they better trade back up or down for an extra first and get Queen in here he is underrated and did more in the championship game then simmons did, covering blowing up runs getting after the passer killing the screen game he would be my first target.

I will give the younger guys a little leeway they weren't the only ones struggling with Betchers system it seems ,I like what we have but we need Lbers I can't say it enough ! Thats why Simmons Littleton who is proven or the kid Queen form LSU would be high on my list. I want tackle tho so that takes simmons off the board unless we get a miracle type trade, I say sign Littleton or if not find away to get in position to draft Patrick Queen they might be able to get him in the top of the second or trade back up into the top of the first or find a partner who will keep us in tackle ranger and give another 2nd.

If the pass rush gets remotely squared away, you will see this entire defense improve. They go hand in hand. Williams for instance was the #1 DT in QB hits, but only had a half sack. It's hard to get to the QB when guys are wide open. It's the chicken and the egg basically but I agree we need a better pass rush as well. Improve both and return us to glory. (LBs that can actually cover would be nice too)

Baker, Beal, Ballentine is probably the WORST combo of cornerbacks in the whole NFL. DeAndre Baker is our #1 CB, let that sink in.
Theoretically what happens if Baker gues down? There would be college teams with better CBs.
Id go out on a limb and say its our biggest need, maybe bigger than OT and definitely bigger than LB. And weve won 2 SBs with guys like Kawika and Antonio in the middle of the D., so there goes your "you need a stud there to win" arguments.
Kansas Citys LBer play was pretty bad this year, they just won a SB. A little old CB/S FA put them over the top.

Kansas Citys LBer play was pretty bad this year, they just won a SB. A little old CB/S FA put them over the top. All first year players who will be getting better coaching (in theory, at least). Way too early to call them the worst at anything. Even with what most of us agree was bad coaching, Baker showed he is at least good enough to be a CB #2. We all had hopes Beal would be a starter but that would have been above the average for a 3rd rounder so I don't expect him to start at this point but hope he will exceed expectations. Ballentine was a 6th rounder so, what did we expect beyond role player? The same for Love, who looks like he may also be above average for where he was picked because it looks like he can start as a safety or slot corner. Again, all first year or, in the case of Beal, basically first year, with bad coaching. Respectfully, I think calling them the worst and biggest need is going a bit too far. I wouldn't be surprised if the addition of one starter quality corner makes them a team strength this year. Some of us have suggested Byron Jones, which isn't a bad idea at all, but I would prefer 1 or 2 of the second tier guys who will be available (Prince would be great for a year or two - the perfect option in my opinion). In the draft, take another corner if they are BPA.
