Soooo the days have passed and No one has signed Clowney. I am sure he got a nice slice of humble pie with the lack of interest. Also I think it’s weird that we haven’t signed Golden yet ( Nor has any other team). It feels like we are trying to sign Clowney and keep Golden on hold as a backup if we can’t reach a deal. Unless we are going to sign neither which is a possibility as well How is there absolutely no interest in Golden either? What does everyone think?

I think that we are absolutely not signing Jadeveon Clowney.

No way they sign Golden to any decent size contract. Fackrell is the one they signed to replace Goldens production..
Best to stay a way from both these players and wait until next year to go all in on a great pass rusher if possible..

I think most of us would want Golden back but that is probably not happening as you say. In regards to Clowney, no chance in hell based on the available funds....

I think Golden is gone. He was initially brought in as a one year rental and also because he had familiarity with Bettcher and his scheme. Well, Golden performed well but Bettcher is gone and FO brought in a new Golden in Fackrell with familiarity with Grahams defense.

What does everyone think? when you watch Goldens tape you realize that the scheme had more to do with the production than anything else. He had 10 sacks last year, however, when you watched every single one of our games last year Golden was rarely impactful. Our pass rush sucked, his pressures/sacks a lot of the time came in clean up, unblocked or the QB held the ball longer than he should. He's not a bad player, but his skillset isnt great when you look past the sack number.

No difference for QB stat sheet whether he throws a 50 yard bomb for a TD or a 5 yard slant taken to the house.

I do find it odd that people haven't signed either one. They are the "top 2" available pass rushers in the free agent class. Even if everyone of Goldens sacks were "scheme" sacks, that is the point of a defense. Then again no one is at all interested in a QB that threw for 5,000 yards or a former MVP....Odd year for sure.
I like the Fackrell addition and hope he can bring some level of pass rush but we were a terrible pass rush team last year and replaced Golden with Fackrell and that doesn't move us from terrible. If we add Fackrell to Golden maybe we can move off the terrible level and be average or even above average. I do think improve pass coverage can help though.
I still think we are not talking to Clowney and are keeping in touch with Golden and would not be shocked with a 3 for $30 deal, $20m guaranteed.

I don't want either, but in terms of ability these two don't belong in the same sentence.
Golden does not make a defense better. Clowney does, but it's a question of money and consistency.

Dollars are precious. I would be for signing Golden to a team friendly deal, but sometimes its not how many sacks but WHEN the sacks come. I would expect Golden to play hard but his injury as well as advancing age could be a factor to teams. As for Clowney, buyer beware. Can he be motivated to go full out after a big payday? Definitely a huge talent but I think he turns it on and off.

What exactly had Clowney done statistically to deserve anything near what he’s demanding? He is going to regret turning down 17m/per from the Dolphins.

Golden is one of those funny players that you either get as a steal, or your way overpaying. Really hard to tamp down his true value.
I think the Giants are being smart with slow playing it with Golden. He's not a guy that can be your top passrusher. He's good as a secondary pass rush option, but really probably as your third pass rush guy.
He just doesn't beat 1 on 1 blocking enough to be a top guy.

They were actually discussing these two and Cam Newton on the radio this morning. They said many players with injuries are having issues getting signed because they can't be seen by the team doctor. Gives us an advantage for Golden maybe.
