This kid comes from a smaller school but had production. He is also a good athlete based on his RAS. From what I've read, he just needs to get stronger to be a 3 down LB. So, instead of something like a 5% chance of getting a second contract, I'll move him up to the 8-10% range

Not to mention his dad won 2 Superbowls here. Well we also had success with Coughlins family too. Remember Snee was his son in law.

Already has his own wiki page.
Has good size.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carter_Coughlin"Early life and high school
Coughlin grew up in Eden Prairie, Minnesota and attended Eden Prairie High School, where he played basketball and football. He is the grandson of Tom Coughlin (No relation to the former Giants Coach). He helped lead the Eagles to back-to-back state championships as a sophomore and junior. As a senior, he recorded 35 tackles, 7.0 tackles for loss, two pass breakups and one fumble recovery. He was named first team All-State and played in the All-American Bowl.[1]
College career Coughlin played in 11 games as a true freshman and finished the season with 25 tackles including four tackles for loss and two sacks.[2] He became a starter at outside linebacker going into his sophomore season and was named honorable mention All-Big Ten Conference after leading the Golden Gophers with 11.5 for a loss and 6.5 sacks. As a junior, Coughlin recorded 48 tackles and led the team with 9.5 sacks, 15 tackles for loss and four forced fumbles and was named second team All-Big Ten.[5][6] Coughlin was named second team All-Big Ten again as a senior after making 49 tackles with 9.5 for loss and 4.5 sacks."

When I was doing my mock draft I came across this kid, his name caught my eye. He was recruited to play for Ohio State but turned it down because his family played for the Gophers. He certainly has some talent, more than his small school would signal. I'll be pulling for him.

Minnesota plays in the Big Ten. When I hear small school, I think of D2/D3.....not the Big 10.
Seems like he has potential. Fingers crossed!

Minnesota is not a small school - they just kicked Auburn’s ass in a bowl game. They won their division in The Big 10. The Big 10 is one of the best conferences in the country. Minnesota has over 50,000 students. If this kid gains some bulk and strength he could be a solid pass rusher.
He’ll make the team.

Heres a little did bit Carter Caughlin I believe played pee wee and high school football with one of our other LBs Ryan Connelly they actually lived a few houses away from one another and grew up together. Small world what are the chance s your in the NFL playing on the same team as your neighborhood friend. Maybe some football chemistry working here.

I'll be honest these are the kind of guys that BB would draft in NE and find what they do best and give them a role doing it. All those kids in the 7th have some kind of versatility to them including the corner. doesn't mean they will be stars or even make the team but I think there is a good chance some if not all will find some role whether it is on teams or unpackages on the defense and on teams.

So total win in my book. But how is Minnesota a small school?

We have so much room to improve the roster; several of these kids can make the team and contribute. Remember that upgrading even our backups is improvement.

Drafted him a few times in the 7th in my mocks.
I like the upside.
Plus, Coughlin on the back of the jersey.

Yup when I look at the roster I'm starting to see position groups with depth and competition at almost every position OL has more depth the in years, same with the DL, secondary there is a ton LB there is depth but they need to strengthen that up a bit. WR needs some attention next year. Everyone drafted WRs this year so we might have the pick of the litter next. Good to see the roster starting to take shape.

They're small in the sense they're not well known in comparison to those programs that have managed to get on the radar of non-college game watchers like myself

I had him in my mock draft. He looked good on tape and seemed like a Gettleman type guy
I also had him and the DE from North Dakota state on my radar
Good effort guy with decent tape

MINNESOTA was ranked in the top ten this past year. Coach PJ Fleck. I checked out three games. They do have some good players on there team. Rashid Bateman, he will be a JR , next year. This is a guy ( if he declares next year, will be a first round pick. Giants , should have there eyes on. Daniel Faalala, ROT 6ft 9in 400 lbs .
Carter Coughlin c. Brown , TJBrunson and Tae Crowder will make the team . Always was impress with Crowder whenever I watched Georgia

Eight should be the norm. But, I for see ten. LB’s are more important in the new defense, special teams. BTW , probably eight would be activated each game.
