Hypothetically speaking, if the Giants found a way to sign Markus Golden and Jadeveon Clowney would that give us a chance to make the playoffs? For me considering that they just added a 7th team to the playoffs to go along with a 17th game I don't think it's outside the realm of possibility that we make the playoffs. I think realistically if we are able to get 8 or 9 wins we could sneak in with one of those wildcard seeds.
Moreover, when you think about the fact that Markus Golden has just been hit with what's called the "May 5th" tender which means any team that tries to sign him would face the risk of losing any compensatory pick they would have received the following year, I think it gives us a realistic chance of resigning him. Coupled with the fact that Seattle refused to place the same tender on Clowney meaning whatever offer they've offered him falls well short of $16.5 million (the tender gives the player a 10% raise over what they made the previous year). An according to multiple sources Clowney is now just looking for a short term deal that allows him to test the free agency market in the near future. So if we give him a 2 year deal worth up to $30 million with incentives I think that it would be a win-win for both sides, since we don't have much cap space this year which allows us to spread the cap hit and he gets to test free agency in the short-term.
If our last two super-bowl runs have shown anything is that having a great pass rush allows you to mask other areas of weakness on your team, so I think if we were able to add these two players it would give us enough talent to get us into the playoff for the first time in over 3 years.

Hilarious. Clowney can't tackle ,can't get sacks, can't stay on the field .So exactly how does he make us a playoff contender ?

I dont think so.
Then again im not a big fan of Clowney and while Golden was a nice addition, he isnt a long term answer. At this point id prefer to just run with Ximines, Carter, and maybe Coughlin if he makes the team, (which i believe he will). Give the young guys the snaps maybe it'll help with their progression

Interesting question. I think it’s possible it could. However, even though it could get us to the playoffs...I’d rather not. I don’t think this is a Super Bowl team. I’d rather carry that money to next year and keep going with a young team.

My expectation is for the Giants to start actually looking something like an NFL team what that translates to in wins I dont even know right now, but i just want to watch a game and see actual football, not a total trainwreck with absolutely no effort in changing things game to game.

Why throw away a ton of money for an underachieving injury prone player in basicaly a developmental season?
Save the money and see what the kids can do We will have a ton of money again next offseason to get the best edge guy that probably isn't as defective as Clowney is now

If Jones can stop fumbling the team will make the playoffs.

I say at least sign Clowney. He's only 26.

If Jones can stop fumbling the team will make the playoffs. Defended has to step up big time too. Not just a Jones fumbling problem. Its a major flaw in his game I agree with that.

I do think it would behoove us to sign Golden on May 5th. For 5 million bucks for 1 year there is nothing to lose here. But it could be a pretty big win. Clowney would be at least as much money as Williams and we can't sign him.
Next year we get a pass rusher from somewhere FA or the draft. Plus with the cap supposedly to take a big jump we should be able to afford this easy. We will also have a lot of money breaking free again next year from what we spent this year.

Clowney is an often injured underachieving guy that can’t tackle. He will also cost a bunch of $

Of the two, I would prefer Golden--but only at a team friendly price. Clowney is a "brand", a name. Like way too many players these days he is a gifted athlete that turns it on and off when he sees fit. He does not strike me as a guy who will plead with Judge to give him a shot to play on the FG block team. I truly feel this team has a better shot to be playoff contenders building it with the kids and their own synergy. Kids and high character vets.

Id rather have one last 6-10 season this year with all the kids showing major upsides in November/Dec and then take the jump into a 10 year legit contender window (bolstered by a Wadele/Chase selection at pick 11 and another strong group of draft picks from 2-4)with 80% of the team on rookie deals and bolstered by one big name healthy try hard defender with having 100.million in cap space)with both lines in the top 5 with a worst to 49rs level junp in 2021 Clowney goes against everything this regime seems to want If Pete Carroll won't bring him back it's telling

No, but maybe these two will!
"The Giants signed two undrafted rookies — outside linebacker Dana Levine (Temple) and tight end John Rysen (Simon Fraser, Canada) — and cut defensive lineman Kevin Wilkins to get to the roster maximum of 90 players."

I can't help but get the feeling that Clowney is living off of his reputation from college. He hasn't been that dominant force he was advertised to be IMO.
For example, it would be a disappointment for me if that's all the production we got if we had drafted him years ago. With all the pomp and circumstance surrounding him, he really hasn't lived up to it.

As much as Clowney has underachieved, and he has. He would be our best defensive player on our team. And it’s not even a debate. But, his head is in the clouds and some how he thinks he’s worth a truck load of money. I have to say though, there’s usually one or the most two dumb teams who cave in to these players demands. I guess all 32 teams got the memo.
Also, we’re not two players away from making the playoffs. Let’s be real here. To be serious playoff contenders the Cowboys and Eagles have to play some of their worst football this season. And the likelihood of that happening is slim. Let’s see progress, I want to see how these young players adapt to one another and especially see how the rookies play. Have to crawl before we walk. And I know, we have been crawling for years..

No this team on both offense/defense is learning a new system with a lot of young/new players during an offseason where practices are virtual until otherwise noted.

This. You dont just get a player and make the playoffs. Fact of the matter is the Giants are still 3rd or depending who you ask, last in the NFC East. Jones is still unproven, our OL has new pieces but isnt settled, average talent at WR, no pass rush and an extremely young secondary. Not to mention a rookie Head Coach and a pandemic keeping him from meeting his team. We need to be more realistic around here.

I'm expecting a big boost in production from Williams this year. A little more coverage can lead to a big increase in his sack total.
