Just wanted to share that I got accepted to PFF's trial team.
I will grade a handful of past games to start off. Depending on how well I do, I have a chance to make it onto the full-time team by the end of June.
Wish me luck πͺπΏ
Update (6/26) Finally got my first game review back. I scored 70% accuracy when compared to 3 of their master copies for that game. Not bad considering it was my first time. Out of 661 data points I accurately mapped out 463. Majority of my errors were listing a player at DLT (defensive left tackle) instead of NLT (nose left tackle), and LEO (left end outisde) instead of LE (left end). Small mistakes that can be corrected, and the good news is I WILL GET ANOTHER SHOT BECAUSE I MADE IT TO ROUND 2!
Next game is 2019 Week 8 Boise State @ BYU... it is due next Thursday so hopefully I have another good update for you guys then.
Update (6/17): I finally completed my first trial game. (Michigan vs Wisconsin 2019) Here's a few things I took away from it: 1. Everyone, and I repeat, EVERYONE is a Hybrid Player on defense now-a-days. You have MLBs playing the slot & safety role, you have boundary corners at ROLB, SS & FS on consecutive plays.... and the Safeties? Everywhere (literally). 2. Michigan's DC, Dan Brown, is a hell of a play-caller. Does a great job moving guys around in different spots. A play that stood out is when they disguised a man look with a man look... sounds crazy right? Wisconsin's RB lined up out wide, Michigan's LB lined up out wide... Wisconsin's RB motions into the backfield, Michigan's LB motions into the box at OLB At the snap:: Wisconsin's RB runs a route into the flat.... Michigan's OLB blitzes at the snap, and the LE picks up the RB in coverage and runs with him into the flats and up the sidelines step for step. It was beautiful to see that executed so flawlessly with minimal communication from my perspective.
Anyway back to the PFF aspect. I get graded and also get feedback about my evaluations this week. They will let me know if I made it to Round 2. My fingers are crossed but I think I did a pretty good job. Hopefully they give me a Notre Dame game next lol.

My first trial game is set for tomorrow. One quarter of a bcs game from a few years back. I've got to breakdown everything on each play. Who's on the field (offense & defense), their positions pre-snap, and each players assignment on the play.
Never realized it was so tedious until I read the breakdown of how they do things. It's assumed that for a full 3.5 hour game you may have to put in a minimum of 6 hours to get all the information documented.

Question I have is even if they are in say their base defense it is hard to know the responsibility of each player not knowing the play call. Interesting good luck and kick some ass.

For run plays and screens behind the LOS grading defense is easier because everyone is playing run defense after the snap. For pass plays thats where your knowledge of coverages, routes, schemes and concepts come into play. PFF admits there is no way to get 100% of the information from the field.. but, with film and understanding the game you can get 85%-90% consistently.

Iβm calling it now. Julian Love will be graded out in the hall of fame before week 3. Iβve always hated PFF and their idiotic grading. But since we have one of our own Iβll make an exception. Good luck my man..

Yes on runs and screens it's a lot easier, coverages are tough even when the scheme is saying one thing it can be a completely different thing a lot more smoke and mirrors with defenses these days. I think you are gonna have a blast you will have to get deep in tp the scheme to dig through the smoke. Have fun sounds like a great gig and can maybe open some other doors for you. Again best of luck look forward to seeing your work.

Best of luck Gunner
The screening process should include evaluating the Giants D from last year. If you can figure out what was going thru their heads in the secondary, then you should get a lifetime position and a gold watch.
