I see your points and agree. I think he was a top 5 CB. Turnovers change the complexion of the game, shorten the field for the offense, and is a focus of Dallas' new defensive priorities. Dallas has consistently ranked in the bottom 3rd of the league in int's and last year was tied for last with 7. The #1 ranked DB in the league Stephon Gilmore had 6. But, if you're not Deion Sanders you aren't worth that kind of money although I might pay Gilmore that ... he's great. Interceptions and fumble recoveries are an important part of the game . Acquiring turnovers is coached by most staffs. Also, to your point, a turnover limits a reception and probably limits more receptions (we would never know that though as it falls un2waes34eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee4e4eeder the "what if" catagory). I liked Jones and watched him develop and wish we could have kept him. Losing him may hurt my team. You can't pay everybody the big bucks and right now I like the way my team is constructed. Yeah, he was a good player and you are right, you can't pay everyone. You still have to pay Dak and all. Good corners don't always come so easy. Considering they litterally drafted what would have been at the very least a latteral move with Lamb and probably an upgrade overall skillset wise paying Cooper was beyond stupid... While rolling the dice their 2nd round pick that now has to step in and replace a top 5 corner as a rookie... Horrible asset allocation.... As much as I loved Odell, if hypothetically (take away all baggage)we had a choice between resigning him or a hypothetical top 5 corner and we were assured Lamb/Jefferson when we picked id be letting Odell walk every time Way way too much talent coming into the league every year at that position to pay them 100 million

No way to know that Lamb (or any of the top 3 WR ) would make it to the 17th pick. Dallas had to secure the WR spot which is why they paid Cooper (who had higher offers) in free agency. The Coop deal was made 6 weeks prior to the draft. As I remember Dallas picked up Coop in 2018 when they were struggling offensively, 3-3, and this after they tried to enter the season as Michael Gallup as their #1 + a bunch of other joes at WR. Cows went 8-2 after Cooper came to the team. Cooper had to be signed after helping the Offense to its high rankings in 2019. Now when Lamb falls to them at 17 would the prudent GM pass on such a talent? And let that talent fall to your biggest divisional rival? That woulda been quite the wrong move as the top CB's were already gone and Dallas woulda been taking a 2nd tier DB. As it wound up they got their guy anyway. So my argument is it would be irresponsible to pass on Lamb. Jefferson while probably good can't carry Lamb's jockstrap ... IMO. They did well with the assets. Amari has spotless character too especially when compared to OBJ. As far as hitting on WR talent coming into the league you do have a point. But that is no guarantee to get a good one. NYG and Philthy have both suffered trying to hit on that large talent pool. But Dallas now has two 1st rd picks at WR, one on a rookie contract, and both preferring to play for the Cowboys. Lamb IMO is as sure a pick to be NFL talent as any team could hope for. Quite a plus++ ! So it (your post's hypothesis) boiled down to letting Cooper walk and save cap cash while spending it on Byron Jones. While hoping to get that replacement #1 WR in the draft (a gamble). Remember they lost Cobb in free agency. If the gamble failed you're right back to only one name WR. Bad gamble. Lamb was the only choice to make. If the D flounders then it'll be addressed in 2021 or via a trade or free agent pick up. We'll see, that's why we play the game.

Dak and Jerry must have quite different feelings today after seeing Mahomes contract.

Dak ain't Mahome's . . . by a long shot !
I'm sure Jerrah can get that point over to Dak.

We can certainly agree that Dak isn't near Mahomes but the ceiling has certainly been raised. Any team that locked up their QB prior to Mahomes contract is probably pretty happy.

Honestly They should have signed Cobb and Jones and let Cooper walk..i can't justify that contract knowing...hell...Justin Jefferson is probably a better version of Cooper in that he can take the top off a defemse occasionally. So one of those 4 would have been available.... The team decided rightfully so to sink their money into their best and most important asset, the O line...and once they decided on Zeke they needed to save somewhere else I'm just not into paying players at a position that seemingly you can get a steady flow of very good talent at these days and play at a high impact level on rookie deals and rotate through by drafting WRs somewhat early on a BPA manner.its interesting that Mahomes big money kicks in when Tyreek Hill's deal is up,I wouldn't be surprised if they trade him after 2021.
