Giants Head-Scratching Move Deemed NY’s Biggest Offseason Regret "Let’s be honest. The New York Giants may regret trading for defensive lineman Leonard Williams more than they regret hanging onto him. They gave the crosstown Jets a third-round pick and a conditional fourth-rounder to land Williams and got little in return. In eight games, Williams had just 13 solo tackles and half a sack. Yet general manager Dave Gettleman has defended the trade. “The juice was worth the squeeze,” Gettleman said, per SNY’s Garrett Stepien. Well, the Giants have squeezed twice now for Williams, giving him the franchise tag for another audition in 2020. That’s going to cost New York a whopping $16.1 million for a player who had just 46 total tackles and half a sack in all of 2019." "His 19 QB-hits in 2019 led all interior defensive lineman, while his pressure rate of 11.3% ranked 13th amongst players at his position." heavy.com/sports/2020/06/new-york-giants-leonard-williams-franchise-tag-biggest-regret-2020-nfl-offseason/

Still don't hate the move. I wished we had signed him long term, but I like the player and think he makes everyone else around him better.

Not getting a good experienced center.. Not getting a true Center might be my biggest gripe. I also don't like the fact we completely neglected WR, simply due to the lack of depth. If they all stay healthy, which seems unlikely due to their injury history, I think Tate, Shep, and Slayton are just fine. Especially with Engram and Barkley to compliment. Overall, I really liked this off-season.

Definitely need one more WR threat, hopefully someone shines in camp.
Looking forward to seeing more of Kaden Smith....and this has got to be Engram's breakout year.

Maybe the reason for not getting that vet C or a solid starting WR was due to the money tied up in Williams? If we were only giving LW like $10m, we could have strung for a WR or C as well. Im not sure what their top priorities were though, but C was definitely one of mine, along with the OT and pass rush spots. WR will have to wait until 2021.

With the new defense, hopefully LW can be used more effectively.
But yeah, should've got a center.

Not addressing one of the more glaring needs on the team. Edge rusher.. I think Fackrell was a good pickup, but expecting him to duplicate his 10.5 sack season a few years ago is hopeful thinking at best.
The Giants put all their eggs in the Ximinez and Carter basket for being the answer to our pass rushing woes. It’s very simple, we don’t get to the QB we will lose more than we win. In a passing league you have to be able to disrupt the QB. With the rules benefiting offenses and most importantly the WR position it’s the job of the guys up front, especially at the edge position to get consistent pressure at the quarterback.

I like LW as a player, think he is very good, but the trade for him mid-season really made very little sense. That being said, franchising him was not a terrible offseason move imho. I didn't see much we could have done in the pass rush area in FA, but would have liked to sign a decent experienced center.

Not dipping into the most talented group of recievers to come out in a very long time while the rest of the league, especially our division, loaded up with firepower.
Wait till next year and hopefully get Chase,Waddle, ect
I think Lemieux or Gates could be the answer at center eventually

We’re better with Williams, move on...

Regrets? How can we have regrets before even seeing this team play? Maybe Williams will be a regret, or maybe he will add a bunch to our pass rush and one of these guys will pan out at Center. Either way it is way too soon to have regrets. In June we should be filled with hope, not regret.

He’s a very underrated player who has been solid since the day he was drafted out of Alabama. He can play over the center, the two and three tech. And hasn’t missed a game in his 3 year career. Williams seems to get all the attention, fans need to start paying attention to big #94.

Other than theory, no real way for Jones to work on the fumbling.

I don't get the Williams hate .. 3 men forcing the entire opposition Online have to commit to even forcing a stalemate is a huge win for the defense Who did the Jets take with that pick again?

I hate to keep talking about the Williams trade because it still aggravates me to think about. If the juice was worth the squeeze, you offer him a contract in FA. Trading a top 70 pick for 8 games is nonsense. This is why draft capital is so valuable. He didnt even trade for the player, he traded for the rights to the player.
There are far too many bad outomes that can come from this trade.

Ashtyn Davis, highly praised S out of Cal. But Zach Baun was there! He was one of my favs. Getting him in the 3rd would have been ideal for me. Not to mention all the Cs were there to be had as well. But who knows how they ranked all these guys they didnt draft

We drafted Daniel Jones and that was considered the biggest reach and hated by many. Turned out pretty good right? Also, What the hell do fans know? The Eagles drafted Donovan McNabb and the whole fan base hated the pick. He just turned out to be a franchise QB and one of the better players of his era. The trade was dumb.. Plain and simple.

So the Jets got the following players via draft with our picks
Round 3, pick 79: Jabari Zuniga, DE, Florida
and
Round 4, pick 120: Lamical Perine, RB, Florida
Round 4, pick 125: James Morgan, QB, Florida International
Not sure which of these 4th round picks was our pick but I assume it was the QB. If either of these players is a stud, then we lost the trade.....But umm....We know James Morgan won't see the field and Zuniga.....we shall see.
Just to put things in perspective, we have a top 5 draft pick for two unknowns. That should help you sleep at night.

The Giants whiffed on getting a center and WR so that would be the player I would've like see them draft at that spot instead of nothing..

Ask any Jets fan if they’d be happy about losing they’re best player. Typical Jets move, it would make Gettleman look like a genius in comparison.

I don't understand this thinking we can't have both We are going to have a really good cap number next year Hell Delete Tate and Soldier and this alone almost gives you enough for both And Jones on a rookie deal Keep the strength of the defense intact

Typical Jets move, it would make Gettleman look like a genius in comparison. Are you surprised? He has outplayed his contract, might not be right in the eyes of the fans and team. But in all fairness, Adams deserves a pay raise. I think it was smart by Joe Douglas to draft a safety, with Mays track history of getting hurt. And Adams being a perpetual whiner. You need to have options if Douglas chooses to make a move. The day Gettleman looks like a genius will be the first.

I think Shane Lemiuex will turn out be one of the steals of the draft. Who knows who the Giants Would’ve taken, It wouldn’t have been the best player on defense like we have with L. Williams.
