Is it a good move to bring in a player and pay them less then they did the year before on a show me contract? I'm surprised most fans think it's a good idea to bring him in on a contract that he'll be upset with.. I guess getting some money is better then none on a losing team.. If he comes back he'll be paid 110% of his 2019 salary or 4.1 million. If no other team is willing to pay him more why would he be upset with that? I thought he made over 5 million last season thanks for the correction. He could be upset by lack of playing time without a multi year deal. He showed he wasn't good enough for a longer contract yet fans want him back to see if he could earn one this year I'm for moving on.

I thought it was a smart move by the Giants placing the unrestricted free agent tender on Golden. It was such an unexpected move I had to double check to see if it was the Giants that did it. Golden is a good player, plays hard and can generate pressure. I would stay as far away from giving him a long term contract though. Stick to the one year deal, and see how it goes. As of right now our pass rush is suspect at best. Golden can change that. if they get him back we still have 3.5 weeks to go they should stick with the 1 year for sure see if he can produce with someone other then betcher coaching him.

If he gets upset and doesn't play well it hurts his chances of getting a payday next offseason. That's his motivation to play well. And, if he's not getting time to play, then that means one of our young guys has shown well enough to take his spot, which makes him a prime trade chip as a competent pass rusher on a short term deal.

If he gets beat out why would a team want him now after losing his starting job when they could've already had he on the cheap during this off season. It's pretty obvious he's not in the Giants long term plans so for a team rebuilding I just don't see the value in signing him to another show me deal.

He can be moved for high picks before the season . What contender would not give up a 2nd for his production and low cap impact?

Can't see that either, but he's pretty cheap, no? I don't expect fantastic production, but I'm not paying through the nose for what I do get from him.

I feel it would hurt by not playing some of those 3rd rounders they selected. After all they need to find out if they did get a gem or not and having Golden take snaps a way form them will not help with that decision.. Right now our "nascar" formation consists of 3 guys that combine for 950 pounds. There are plenty of places for those guys to get snaps. It would be nice to have at least one player on this team that we know can get after the QB. If he takes the LE spot then they can still get snaps at RE, OLB, OLB or MLB. I hope some of them pan out too. Wow, I knew NASCAR was slow but I didn't know it was THAT slow!

Now, I don't know about a 2nd round pick, but I could certainly see a team giving up a 3rd rounder or a combination of 3rd day picks for him. This would be particularly true if he shows well during pre-season but someone like Ximines just blows it up during the pre-season, or if a contending team loses their top pass rusher to injury early in the season. His combination of production capability and being on an inexpensive 1 year deal make him a prime trade candidate.

Williams, Lawrence and Tomlinson are all actually decent pass rushers, they are just guys that should not be the top pass rusher on a team.

I honestly didn't think he had a great season even with those 10 sacks and I was happy the Giants weren't signing him to a 3 year deal. The fact he's still available makes me think other teams feel the same way. I'm hoping Fackrell will have a more exciting season who makes plays that will help the defense get off the field more then the season Golden gave them.

I agree he's not a "blue chip" type player, I mean more that he's a prime candidate to bring back a return on a trade. Besides his 10 sacks I think he had a good overall season, he's just not good enough to be a team's top pass rusher, especially on a team with few other options. I think he's best suited to be the second or third pass rush option on a team. The issue is that those guys are often very difficult to price out. In the end, the Giants getting him back on another low cost, 1 year deal would be a good thing for the team as it just gives them another option. You can hope that between him, Fackrell, Ximines and Carter they'll find some reliable options. Best case scenario is that Ximines flourishes into a 10 sack type player and Fackrell and Carter together provide a solid presence where they can trade Golden for either a 3rd rounder or some 3rd day picks.

Absolutely ridiculous under completely normal circumstances. Add to that...the guy has been on the market for months, unsigned. But some team that didn't sign him, is gonna go "oh now that he's on a team again, let's give up a 2nd round pick."

They showed the GMen vs Bucs game yesterday, and I ended up putting it on for background noise. Ironically, there were three plays involving Golden that stood out to me:
Play 1 - In the first quarter of the Bucs game, he showed this ability by blitzing up the middle and beating the QB to his drop back. The DL did a good job occupying blockers, and Golden went through untouched.
Play 2 - Later in the game, Golden had a "hustle" sack." Winston was in the pocket, and got flushed out, and Golden never stopped pursuing and eventually got the sack. Solid coverage by the DB's allowing Golden time to pursue.
Play 3 - In this same game, Golden bull rushes the RT back causing Winston to hitch/hesitate his throw. Winston expected to get hit, he threw the ball behind the WR, and Connelly was there for the easy INT. It won't show up in the stat book, but Golden influenced the throw.
I'm not one for stats or PFF grades. Football is the epitome of a team sport, and these plays are great examples. No matter how you cut it, Golden will be an asset to this team in 2020. I see absolutely no reason why anyone would not want him back.

Giants should sweeten the pot if he signs. I'd rather have a motivated player than a disgruntled one playing in a shortened season during a contract year.

We don't know what this season will or will not be - but he certainly did everything that was hoped for last season, at a bargain. What he's looking for, and what he might wind up with, would certainly make most players disgruntled. I would consider this.

I haven't been keeping up with that situation, there have been conflicting numbers thrown around here, and then the whole Leonard Williams debate.
