I was sitting here thinking about what happens if the NFL season is cancelled. Besides the obvious pissed off fans (even if we understand why it was cancelled), what happens to contracts?
Player A has guaranteed money. Does he get it this year? Player B is in the last year of his contract. Is he still under contract next year? What about suspensions? If you are suspended a number of games do you not start counting that until the following year? Does the salary cap go up next year, and if so, do we carry over all the contracts we have now but each team now has more money to spend?
I cannot imagine the logistical nightmare all of these types of things present, not to mention the draft, scouting if there is no NCAA this year, etc.
Any thoughts on any of this?

1.Gettleman gets a pass 2.The team has a lot of time to learn all the new systems and actually probably get in enough practice time over the next year before preseason 2021 3.no wear and tear on Barkley in another lost season
We will have to figure out all the other shit.

The NFL is a multi billion dollar operation. It will happen The virus doesn't care how much money the league makes. the virus isn’t even talked about anymore, the nfl season will 100% happen. Soccer all over the world is thriving now, might be limited fans but it’s on. The reason mlb was cancelled is because it was during the surge of it.

I say the chances are about 10% that we have any real season.
The virus isn't talked about anymore? Have you been on the moon?

The virus is continuing to spread although many people are asymptomatic, it doesn’t mean its over or many more will not die from it. I just heard an eleven year died from it this past week. No one knows who will be affected by it and that’s what is so scary.

Here in Jersey we can’t do shit! Murphy won’t even let us go to Vegas without quarantining for 2 weeks when we come back! Who the hell has that much time on the books? Nobody! And he knows that....so that’s his way of saying...I don’t want you going anywhere until I say it’s OK. Where the hell are you living? Maybe I’d better move there.

We don't need stadium fans for football. We need football for our sanity and fantasy sports and sports betting and some diversion from the daily crap we are dealing with. There may not be another person in the country that feels this way but professional sports is part of the therapy that this country needs. Masks and distancing are a given, Sports needs to be a given as well without fans. Who gives a crap about 90,000 well to do fans who can't watch in person?

I think it's 50-50 that we have a season. Even though Roger Goodell would rather his family come down with covid than cancel the season.
But what if players want to opt out for this year like in baseball. Then what happens ? So say a team then doesn't have it's starting QB for a season. Lineman get hit on every play there's sweat and saliva flying in their face every play. Not even going to talk about the dangers in the locker room.
Unless there's some sought of vaccine this season is really going to be tough.

My guess is that contract wise, the NFLPA and agents will say that it still counts as a year on contract and the teams will say that it does not count. There will probably be some court issues afterwards.
There will be new norms when it comes to concessions in stadiums and maybe even total allowed capacity. The press and anyone not involved with the team directly will have new access limitations.
Not saying any of it will be bad because it may force the research into new technologies that can evolve viewership of the game, but it will be a change.

It’s obvious the NFLPA does not want to play this year as they attempt to get all they can with little or no input or practice. In short, a preseason with no games or 11 on 11 makes a 7th grade gym class. The games would be horrible. The players are forcing the owners into a corner and I expect the season will never happen.......could be the end of the NFL’s dominance in the American sports scene as the inmates have taken over the asylum.

If the players really want the owners to accept a preseason with no 11 on 11, or preseason games and won’t move off that position, the owners would have no option but to cancel the 2020 season.......and the players know it. Even if the owners lost in court and would have to pay the players for the missed 2020 season, it would be much cheaper than trying to operate the team under the NFLPA’s ever changing demands. In a few days when the season cancellation becomes official, what fans that stay interested can start discussing the 2021 draft. I do think when they announce the season cancellation, the league should also state how and where the 2021 draft will work and in what order picks will made.

I can't be the only one wondering...if there is no season, how is the draft order determined? Well there’s 32 teams. I think I read this somewhere or someone told me this. But 32 divided by 4 is eight. That part I knew. Didn’t need to be told that. I’m talking about what’s coming up..... So there are 4 groups of 8 draft picks. 1-8 9-16 17-24 25-32 Teams that picked 1-8 should draw straws for their order amongst the 1-8 grouping. Teams that drafted 9-16 draw straws and so on..... Nothing they do will be totally fair but this is as close as it could get.

Probably a lottery, and not like the silly one the NBA does. It would be 32 cards in a bin and here we go. They might announce to wait until after January 1st before having the draw. If will be a fascinating draft since there not be any 2020 college football season to scout....heck they could almost do the draft today.

Well I've stated my own doubts about the 2020 season but if there is no season it'll have nothing to do with the CBA or any relationship between the league and the players. The virus will decide the fate of the 2020 season, and nothing else.

Think about it just one tackle: no social distancing, no masks, no way to prevent the airborne particles; means no season
I just don't see how there can be any contact sports played when there is no vaccine
I do like the idea of 4 groups of 8 draft picks makes sense, I'd bet they'll be some lively discussions by the owners on how the draft would happen! That may be all the entertainment we fans get.
