Danny White got smoked!! It’s sad that regardless of legal it is you’d probably be flagged for that today. Banks was a great player.

I think that was the season that the Giants D injured 5 or 6 QBs.

Definitly a penalty today. Helmet to chin strap. Banks lowered his head and the crown of his helmet popped White.

I think that was the season that the Giants D injured 5 or 6 QBs. Didnt the Giants do that back with Osi Tuck JPP crew too? Might be the year we broke Romos collar bone. And Culter got hurt. And McNabb? It was like 4-5 QBs.

Awesome clip; nice run by Morris after, and Bart Oates stirring the pot......
Madden and Summerall were the best announcers ever.

Definitly a penalty today. Helmet to chin strap. Banks lowered his head and the crown of his helmet popped White. Looked clean to me with a shoulder to the chest. In any case something of note is White has not spoken to Carl to this very day since that hit. Also, if you watch it again, note the TE goes in motion which caused LT to drop into coverage and gave Carl the “go” sign. And lastly Tony Dorset just sat there - looked like he didn’t even attempt to protect Danny.

Face mask to the chest and wrapped his arms around White a picture perfect tackle and White knew it was coming . Looked clean to me with a shoulder to the chest. And there are much worse examples of this in todays game. That Banks hit is 100% getting him a 15 yards.

So much greatness from yesteryear in that clip: - First thing I noticed was Parcells putting the Giants in White at home to make the Cowboys wear their hated blues....he was the best at mind games. - Second was Madden and Summerall's voices.....nothing better than those two doing a game back in the day....seemed like they did every Giants game in '86........"Up next except on the West Coast........Murder...........she wrote...." The "Gone.....With the Wind" line was after the 86 NFC Championship game
- Third was the hit......clean, hard, flag today simply because it's on a QB but not back then. - Fourth was the fumble recovery......they didn't spend 20 minutes reviewing the fumble, spot, etc.......they simply moved on to the next play. That would be a five minute delay in today's NFL to see if Burt was down by contact before picking up 2 more yards. - Fifth guess who was the lead blocker on the next play Morris run and the carrier on the play after that? Ottis Anderson....many forget he was on the 86 Giants too. Summerall actually called him Carthon on the play but Carthon was #44 not #24.

Why didn't he defy the laws of physics and stop himself from tackling the QB!

I dont understand how you are suppose to run full speed all jazzed up to destroy the QB, then be able to not fall on him... Matthews even braces himself coming down. He put his left arm down to not put all his weight on him. Its a bogus rule. ITs what leads to more Kiwanuka - Vince young incidents. That hesitation to not get a penalty cost us that game. Is football, not golf.

Oh and yes, John Maddon is the GOAT. Miss those days. I remember him one time analyzing a mustard stain on his tie.

I thought it more, and they did it 2 seasons in a row. Also the Bears knocked out just as many, season and even career enders. And those were among the highly touted draft class of QBs (from 1983?).

That is a perfect example of why football is not as enjoyable to watch as it once was.
The left hand clearly goes down to keep the full weight of the defender off the QB.
I don't think anyone has an issue with the NFL protecting the QB from a defender putting his full weight into a tackle. But the problem is they repeatedly fail at calling it. I've seen Eli take some hits that were clear violations of the rules and nothing got called.

I used to like playing against Danny.
In fairness to him though he did follow an all-time great.

When applied correctly I have no problem with it.
If I ran the NFL's officiating the first thing I would do is insist that the officials never throw a flag unless they clearly see a violation.
Do not throw a flag if a) it's a borderline call, b) you didn't have a good angle, or thought you may have seen something, and c) the crowd or player reacts as if a foul occurred.
The game is far better off without the constant stoppages.
Another change I would make is to get rid of every automatic review. If the head coach throws the red flag, then I'd review it.
Allow the teams to dictate the flow of the game, instead of the rules.

Yes, the year was 2010.
Giants defense: Injured Matt Moore, entered Jimmy Clausen. CAR Injured Jay Cutler, entered Todd Collins CHI Injured Todd Collins, entered Caleb Henne CHI Injured Drew Stanton, entered Shaun Hill DET Injured Tony Romo, entered Jon Kitna DAL Injured Tavarius Jackson, entered Joe Webb MIN
Not too shabby. Looks like we helped out Aaron Rodgers and the Packers quite a bit there in their division. Rodgers lit us up too that year.

It looked like he stepped forward to completely clear the way. Banks was a great, great LB and should be in the HOF. I don't recall many OLB who could seal an edge like he could.
