Good on him. And while we constantly rip the guy...this one's gonna sting a bit.

Man, he certainly has a ton going on in his household. I wish nothing but the best for Solder and his family.

So, that leaves us going with the Erick Flowers model in Andrew Thomas. Thomas is the much better prospect, but still a prospect. I was hoping we would get at least the opening of 2020 with him on the right side.
Thomas is the LT Who is the RT? Gates?

Good, that is it for him as a Giants, and it gives Gettleman a huge increase in available cap space. Let’s face facts here, this season means next to nothing and success will be measured if they can play a full season......period. We need to dump the big salaries where we can as next offseason will be chocked full of free agents and it will be a buyer’s market. This season should be about Jones and the new left tackle development......need to also find another young receiver to go with Slayton and the Giants should give a good long look to their free agents and/or other rookie free agents released from other clubs......you never know where the next Cruz might be.

Oh wow, the Giants might actually be worse at tackle overall than last year. That's a scary thought....

Oh wait, there aren't any preseason games to break him in slowly. Wow, what a circus this year is turning into...

I would have made the same move and wouldn't have even thought about it if I were in Solder's position. This move should surprise no one. Now, the Giants better have been planning for this OBVIOUS move....

Doing what's best for him and his family. Wishing him the best of luck.
Could also be a blessing in disguise for us as well, just in case they wanted to start Andrew Thomas at RT before moving him to LT. As I didn't believe that gradualism was the best of strategy. This will also help with the Oline cohesion for 2021 since Nate Solder will most likely not be on this team so they can use this season to build up their chemistry and have the guys play different position across the line until they get the best starting 5.

Roll the saving into next year No need to sign anyone major in a dead season this year..

MY guess would be Flemming or Gates would like to see Gates get that shot. They have some depth thank god for that.

I was just typing 100% agree but thought about it for a second. Solder might have just managed to stay another year with the Giants. Why would they cut him if it accelerates a cap hit of $22M? I would keep him next year, even as backup and only have a CAP hit of $16M. Then they cut him in 2022 for a dead CAP of $6M. The cap is going down in 2021 to $175M and it may not be prudent to incur all of that dead cap in one year.

They are pretty well prepared for this with Flemming Gates Peart not like the old days at all. That not sure how much roller into next year someone said if they cut him it's a 22 mill hit if they keep him it's 16 mill. Not sure how or why, I see it as he has struggled with health for a few years might be good to keep him if he doesn't retire he will be fresh and healthy and can help on either side as a starter or back up.

I don't want Solder as a starter in 2021 but he will have an entire year out of football and could get healthier for a backup role. Hell, if the Giants have to pay him this crazy amount of money, they might as well use him as an insurance policy (Your words)....
