Sounds like an excuse to remove themselves from his inflated contract. How may times did Steve Smith get into camp fights . Getty kept him around.

There are stories that leaders of the team want nothing to do with him. Whatever is going on, Baltimore wants him gone ASAP and Thomas might get his wish playing for the Cowboys.

You can call it what you want . IMO: They were waiting for an opportunity to negate his contract in this case the cap hit with an incident. What top of the heap players were ever cut because of a fight? Who was cut in these fights? Notables Jarvis Landry Jermichael Finley Laquon Treadwell Cam Newton

Don’t pull we had to rid him because of a fight on the practice field and get around the cap hit. If that was true half the league would be gone. There is more to the story, like I mentioned top players for the Ravens have said they don’t want him part of the team. Strong words for a player of Thomas stature. Either way both sides will get their wish.

To me this has " we do not wat to pay the cap hit so we found an excuse to void his contract written all over it. Fine, suspension by the team . No problem, he deserves it. What they are doing doesn't pass the sniff test.

The guy has worn out his welcome at 2 of the most stable, professional franchises. Buyer beware

The guy has worn out his welcome at 2 of the most stable, professional franchises. Buyer beware Good point. I was thinking that, Seattle and Baltimore are two of the best run organizations in football. If you can’t find a home in either of those places you’re a problem.

The guy has worn out his welcome at 2 of the most stable, professional franchises. Buyer beware If that is the case why was he allowed to remain in Seattle for 9 years ? 2 Full contracts. That doesn't exactly sound like a worn out welcome. I would think it had more to do he went on IR after game 4 of the 2018 season due to a fracture. ( the last year of a 4 year contract .)

Baltimore has said the players have lead the charge to remove Thomas from the team...if it werent so, I would explect the players to dispute that claim. Nothing yet.

Is that a valid reason to claim " for conduct detrimental to the team" Because the reason the Ravens gave has not been established as an NFL precedent either.

This exactly what I said the Ravens were doing. www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/29723620/sources-ravens-cut-trade-earl-thomas-disputeThe Ravens announced they had terminated his contract for personal conduct that has adversely affected the team. The Ravens are expected to try to void his $10 million guaranteed salary this season. It is expected the safety will file a grievance. This sends a bad message to the rest of the Players in the league . Now any little thing they do. As small a fight in camp can void their contract if the FO wants out of it.

That is up to the FO. I have a problem with the Ravens trying to void his contract. Ray Lewis killed a guy and that was not detrimental to the team but a camp fight is ? If the Ravens pull off voiding his contract . Anything any FO deems conduct detrimental will be used to cancel a bad contract. Any slip of the tongue would enable a contract void. It is a slippery slope the Ravens are greasing.

He did not get arrested or beat his girlfriend. The way I see if he is bad teammate. He most likely is. The FO knew that before they singed him. It did not effect his on the field performance. Being a poor teammate and or having a bad attitude is or never has been grounds to void a contract. What the Ravens are doing is attempting to create a new paradigm on how to get out of a contract they are not content with.

Might have been more too, I wasn't riveted to the tv like if they were discussing the Giants.

But it does seem silly for a talented vet to get this result from one fight.

Not for nothing while camp fights happen all the time, they are always offensive Vs defensive guys in the heat of the moment.
I dont recall ever hearing of a guy punching another player of the same positional group, let alone side of the ball.
The way it sounds, this fight was the straw that indeed did it.

This is what I read "they are moving on following a practice altercation with a teammate." "They either will release him for conduct detrimental to the team - punching S Chuck Clark - or trade"

Did he violate any of the leagues rules on conduct described in the CBA. Because I do not see the valid reason to void his contract. Do you?

Hence where I have a problem with the contract voiding. The FO inked a bad contract. He has a history that is easily found. Now the Ravens are using a bad teammate/ attitude argument to nullify the cap hit they have to eat. If they have success in that endeavor. The rest of the teams have an out for bad contracts. All they need to do is allow the player to do something stupid (they all do at some point in their careers), and they have a cap hit out. The guaranteed money in the contract, will be a fictitious clause.

My guess is that he signs somewhere else, which offsets the loss of the Ravens money, and then he and the Ravens arrive at some compromise on the difference.
