Please some of you move down from the ledge. That defense led the league in sacks last year and ended up as a top 5 defense in 2019. They have a coach who in about 15 years has never had a team that was sub .500. We have some issues, things we need to work on but I dont think we were embarassed. We competed against what will be a playoff team with a Superbowl type defense.

Pitt was a tough match up to start the season, would have been even under normal circumstances, the whole covid thing only exacerbated it all.

Also 3 or 4 easy passes dropped. Some of the D looked very good but not enough at certain times. Ballentine fooled twice on the same exact play. Other confusion in the D backfield. The got decent pressure on Ben most of the night. That toss up to Shuster was all Yiadom's fault. He got smoke on an easy route and totally blew the coverage. Love trying to strip the ball from Washington wasn't a bad play. Two people tackling....one tackles the other strips the ball. Its an aggressive play. Didnt work and they get a TD however.

You can't let the #1 beat you like that.

I dont know what the alignment/call was on that play. I guess it was zone. With that said the pressure got to Ben and threw up. Still looked like a do nothing route that Yiadom was too slow to adjust on.

The secondary struggles towards the end but overall they didn't get caught out of position that I noticed, unlike the last 3 years

Wow, a thread with a positive outlook? Is this also a thread that gives the opponent some credit without saying that our players suck? I agree with you. That Steelers defense is no joke and they handled their business. They are the better team and the better team won. You simply tip your hat to them and move on. The people that didn't want Barkley to begin with are doing what they usually do, which is complain after a bad game and stay quiet after a good game. Someone actually called him the problem. Anyways, we hung with a SB contender for over 3 quarters. I liked what I saw from an effort standpoint. They didn't fold. It will take at least half of this season for us to see how this team really is.

I disagree. The outcome was the outcome. I mean the d DID pressure him a lot prior to the 4th quarter. The d actually played well, just gave up a few big plays. Good coaching and smart players will fix those problems and become a good team. I just mean last year's defense was constantly out of position, never got pressure, constantly missed tackles. Looked absolutely and utterly lost. Last night they were much more sound in their fundamentals, generally looked like they knew what was going on. Which is great for basically the first real action for a really young team

It's game 1 and trying to keep things in perspective but other then the Td in trash time we weren't in this.. this line looks abysmal again .. Jones created some plays with his feet and had a nice pass to slayton but other than that I didn't see much from anyone.. they fought so I'll give em that .. but if this is an bit of what we can expect it's going to be another long year ..

I’ve said all week, the year off for Ben may have actually helped him. And as for the team itself? It’s the Steelers, they haven’t been to the playoffs in back to back years. That never happens with that franchise. They’re one of the best run organizations in all of football. Some fans wanted to say we caught them at the right time. When actually, it was the other way around. They caught us at the right time. We’re still trying to figure out how to win, they already know how to do that.

The Bears were a top 5 defense last year as well. Should we just copy and paste this thread and put Bears instead of Steelers?

Your making to much sense from what I saw if they stay with it they will be able compete with most teams.

Exactly steelers are what the Giant used to try emulate some where along the line they lost their way for a good 7 -8 years. Looks like they are trying to get back to it.

Great trenches and a great defense, if was so damn easy I guess everybody would be doing it.

He was under heavy pressure in the first half and they were one dimensional couldn't run it. He was affected by the defense more then rust.

I agree with the OP in general. But its just hard to watch the same crap with the OL year after year. And the same results.

I just read an article from week three on they were the best overall defense in the NFL last year. I think the Giants got out manned at the point of attack. I saw DJ change a play from pass to run because he saw a 7 man box as soon as he changed it they loaded the box and got a stop behind the line. The only thing that changes this is making them pay for 8 and 9 man boxes and better OL play.

Eazy have you rewatched it I'm interested in any ones take on why Dupree wasn't block on several running plays wether they thought they were gonna run away from him or was someone supposed to chip him, to much talent to give him free run.
