Please some of you move down from the ledge. That defense led the league in sacks last year and ended up as a top 5 defense in 2019. They have a coach who in about 15 years has never had a team that was sub .500. We have some issues, things we need to work on but I dont think we were embarassed. We competed against what will be a playoff team with a Superbowl type defense. Eazy have you rewatched it I'm interested in any ones take on why Dupree wasn't block on several running plays wether they thought they were gonna run away from him or was someone supposed to chip him, to much talent to give him free run. When the Giants drew up the play they probably thought that player would not be a factor. They didn’t realize that Dupree is that player and he’s damn good. Reason being by the time Dupree diagnosed the play the back should have already hit the hole. Dupree read run all the way and made a fantastic play. Those type of plays you tip your hat to the opponent. The Steelers linebacking core is great. From Dupree and Watt on the outside, to Williams and Bush inside. That franchise never ceases to amaze me how well they draft in that position.

It is like ground hog day every day for 7-8 years lol. Yeah, when it becomes "at least we didn't get embarrassed" by a good team it's a pretty sad situation. They played tough for a team with a new offense and defense and a lot of youth learning on the job with a short offseason. My glass half full is they seem to be coached better so improvement throughout the year would a big step in the right direction. they put together a big time drive against an elite vet defense even tho it didn't end good they saw they could play with anyone if they clean up their game.

I concur the steelers draft really well just read an article their DL is touted as maybe the best in football crazy talent more so on defense but their offense is no joke either.

Steelers in their system and knowing their assignments = playing fast Giants in preseason game 1 mode still trying to figure things out= playing slow It looked at times like Steeler players were in the backfield at times even before our linemen moved....

Wow, a thread with a positive outlook? Is this also a thread that gives the opponent some credit without saying that our players suck? I agree with you. That Steelers defense is no joke and they handled their business. They are the better team and the better team won. You simply tip your hat to them and move on. The people that didn't want Barkley to begin with are doing what they usually do, which is complain after a bad game and stay quiet after a good game. Someone actually called him the problem. Anyways, we hung with a SB contender for over 3 quarters. I liked what I saw from an effort standpoint. They didn't fold. It will take at least half of this season for us to see how this team really is. An early education to show us where we are compared to one of the best in this league. Now they know where they want to be. We made a ton of assignment mistakes on both O and D that made the difference. Experience working together and good coaching will address those mistakes. The base is there. We are no longer rebuilding from scratch.... lots of tweaking, but replacing 53 men who JR left us with is essentially done. Hopefully the mistakes DG made initially in FA, in his zeal to replace everyone and fill the holes from his hatchet, will be replaced with better decisions.

What's most concerning again is the Oline. Each year same story. I think the other area's of the team will improve and their are a bunch of bright spots but your have to run the ball. (at least a little) Gates needs to be replaced and maybe I am over reacting to one game but he got destroyed .

Now add the fact that the Steelers are a team deeply entrenched in what they want to do and their system. This was always a tough opener on multiple fronts.

I dont get this logic. Yeah, ok. They were top 5 last year. Cool. And we have been the worst team in the NFL the past 3 years so, does that mean we are the worst team this year too?

Giants offensive line made the Steelers look the number 1 defense of all time. Our OL has been making just bout every D we play look like the 85' Bears for the past 3-4 yrs. Steelers game plan coming into this game was to sup the run & make the new kid behind center beat em, he couldn't. Bears will employ the same defensive philosophy next week until DJ proves he can beat a team with his arm despite lack of a run game. Say what you will about Eli, but when he was on, he could beat you w/o a run game. 2011 more than proved that.

The thing is I saw an analyst say on NFL network the Giants don't actually have to attempt to run it right now for play action/RPO to work because teams are already keying on Barkley first Garrett had the right idea,12,shotgun,come out throwing I would actually come out im a 12 with Ratley and Slayton..RPO/fake and take a shot or 2 early.. You force teams out of a shallow/mid zone they won't be able to run blitz effectively .. Easiest way to help a young O line still in preseason mode is make teams play 2.deep zone and force teams to play the run straight.

But I will throw this in, we still have one of the worst if not the worst offensive lines in the league and that is nothing new. Steelers have only add more proof to the pudding.

no doubt....Jones was very sharp most of the night save a few plays and ran well at crucial times. Also 3 or 4 easy passes dropped. Some of the D looked very good but not enough at certain times. Ballentine fooled twice on the same exact play. Other confusion in the D backfield. The got decent pressure on Ben most of the night. That toss up to Shuster was all Yiadom's fault. He got smoke on an easy route and totally blew the coverage. Love trying to strip the ball from Washington wasn't a bad play. Two people tackling....one tackles the other strips the ball. Its an aggressive play. Didnt work and they get a TD however. Why was Bradberry not shadowing him the whole game? You can't let the #1 beat you like that. Especially a crucial 3rd down. Why was Yiadom even covering their best WR
